A string of unlucky occurrences

A string of unlucky occurrences

Erik was, more than anything, a bystander in life, nothing more than a side character for the others passing by, not too special, he had a normal job and lived off minimum wage, though today he had a particularly bad streak of luck.

fuck.. he thought as he realized he had slept in for a whole 2 hours, his alarm was going off and his head was buzzing, and he knew he felt like he wasn't getting a sick day for that, and even if he would have, 5 missed calls from his boss suggested he wouldn't. 'great.' he got out of bed and started getting dressed, all of his clothes seemed to be just a bit to to small, but he had no others, so he had to wear them. he didn't even have time for breakfast, or much else for that matter. of course the front door is jammed, he would curse his luck but this one one of the few times he was unlucky, though he wasn't lucky that much either. after a few minutes of fidgeting he got the front door open and got out into the world.

As he was walking, no, running to his job he wasn't looking forward to what was going to happen to him, and also mad as how his phone was destroyed by a car as he was crossing the street. but after what seemed like forever, he arrived at his job.

after a nice "welcome" from his boss, he was placed in the wrong cubicle, and had work he had no idea how to do, solitaire it is then, he had to change to work when his boss passed, but he was getting close to completing a round.

however, what he didn't notice was a complex rune in the glowing in the ground below him

just as he was about to finish the game of solitaire...

a pillar of golden light enveloped him, blinding him as the covered his now closed eyes.

"WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!" he screamed

he fell back in his chair, causing it to fall over, and right as he was about to hit the ground he suddenly felt weightless.

he cautiously opened his eyes, finding almost pitch blackness, and a figure that made his mind scream to look away.

he quickly turned away, or did a poor man imitation of it, with the weightlessness of this area not helping he just decided to close his eyes.

'Fear not mortal. I will not harm you.'

what?! he exclaimed in his mind, not understanding the situation at all, not to mention the fact there was a whole other creature? being?!! speaking in his mind.

'I understand you have questions, however you time with me is limited. To make this short, I am the god of the divinity of reincarnation, or isekai, as some of you call it'

he had so many thoughts running thought his head that not a single one could make it to the forefront until a single one made it to the surface of his mind, why?

'you have been brought here to be summoned to another world."

what's going o- his jumble of thoughts was interrupted by a timer popping into his vision, it showed 1:43, he hoped it meant hours but-

'your time is limited.'

minutes, then. he knew he had to be fast, or well, something bad would happen, most likely, even if not, he didn't want to find out.

'Please choose a race to come into the world as, currently you can choose there: bacteria (randomized), mouse (randomized), and ant (randomized)'

WHAT? THERE HAS TO BE MORE!

'I am sorry, the choices you have are based on what you have achieved in life. And based on your options your life has been, how should I put it... subpar.'

he knew he had been average- no, he thought he was average, but was he really this bad? No. Is there anything I could do to be human?

'... You may choose to take a debuff title, however based on your choices, the title you need could be devastating'

his mind now almost dominated by the want to be a human, or more accurately a want to be anything but the choices he was given, he almost screamed in his mind YES!

’Alright, additionally you will be given a choice of jobs befitting a hero like yourself, however I must make this short as you have run out of time, I wish you luck.’

his last thought before he was sent into a new world was hero wha-

And then he was gone

----------------------------------------

3 minutes before the summoning.

"are you sure this will work?" Terry said

"we can only hope" said Jerry, who was staring intently at the summoning circle, and the cliff it tittered on the edge of.

"it only seems like it would fit 4 people, what if 5 spawn and one falls off the cliff?" Terry questioned, eyes flickering across all the points across the ritual

"we would be lucky if we got 4 people let alone 5, it will be fine." Jerry answered

"I guess we can only hope." Terry muttered.

------------

he heard assorted sounds, some in his language, some in another language, and he then finally dropped onto the ground, seeing 4 other people around before something blocked his vision, or more accurately, his minds eye

[Congratulations! for being summoned to another world you have been given the title 'summoned hero']

what? he thought, stepping back, right into the cliff behind him. he tried to grab the ledge but it was just out of reach "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH" he screamed, hoping someone would help. sadly nobody could, and so he fell.
