Chapter 7 - Decay

Chapter 7 - Decay

Long Tian vacantly stared at the brilliant meteor shower that encompassed the entire sky. Even back in his past life, he had not seen anything even remotely similar to this. Thousands of lights ran rampantly across the starry sky, resembling the burning desire in his eyes.

If only it were that easy.

With another ear-piercing roar, the Mythical beast of Yin dived back, leaving as swiftly as it had come. The sky rippled violently as it left a bright trail of light.

“I found a new drink in the capital. I bet you can’t even last 2 shots. Wanna try?”

Feng Huan sensed his friend’s gloomy mood, swiftly trying to divert the topic. However, the figure beside him silently stared at the sky, offering no response.

*Sigh*

“You bastard, the grass is not greener on the other side, World of cultivation is teemed with dangers that are far beyond your current understanding.”

As a mortal

He still got no response other than a pin-drop silence.

Turning his neck, he looked at the dazed Long Tian, wondering if he had gotten too overwhelmed by the scene.

Long Tian was stuck in a daze.

When the Illusory Ray of Yin left, he saw something—something that completely changed his understanding of this world.

His expression of regret had long since frozen over, his pupils dilating as his expression turned into one of complete disbelief and horror.

His entire body froze as a primordial fear rose from deep within his soul.

*Ba-Dump, Ba-Dump*

He sensed his heartbeat getting quicker and quicker, as if that was the only sound left in the whole world.

The bustling, lively noise of the city, the whirring noises of the vehicles, even the everlasting whistling of wind, everything had stopped for him.

*BA-DUMP, BA-DUMP, BA-DUMP, BA-DUMP*

Blood quickly rushed to his head.

“You alright?”

Feng Huan shook his dazed friend, finally noticing that Long Tian had fallen unconscious.

Capital of HuaXia, Aetheria.

*Yawn*

The morning sun shone upon Zhou Anping, his chubby face showing signs of exhaustion.

He looked at the large amount of paper in front of him.

Well, this is certainly not what I had in mind when I took on this position.

*Tringgggg*

A square crystal vibrated on his hand, transmitting a hazy video message as soon as he picked it up.

“S-sir, there have been cases of infection in Riveria.”

Another one.

A middle-aged man spoke in an anxious tone, his voice quivering.

“Se-seems like the Axial formations briefly destabilized at 9.01 PM, for a couple seconds.”

Thirty seven fricking provinces, almost half of HuaXia.

“Calm down, Baron Lin. Were there any Casualties?”

“Three civilians got killed by a mutant. However, it broke down before Doom patrol could reach it. Another one killed herself with a shovel. O-other than that, there were 2 cases of partial mutations that we detected in time. They are currently undergoing cleansing.”

“Alright, you did well. Keep me updated.”

“Tha-thank you, Your Excellency.”

The voice was relieved as the transmission was cut off.

Sigh, I should just hand this over to The Order.

*Tringggggggg*

Also, that was less than 1 second after I cut off the other call, what precise timing. As if they were built for this.

As a punishment…

He smilingly watched as the white light in the crystal kept going up and down for 2 minutes, without responding.

hehe

Soon he felt a couple of annoyed gazes focus on him, disturbed by the loud noise of ringing.

He leered back at them angrily.

“How about you guys take it? I am tired of hearing all the news!”

His voice carried a hint of plea and resignation.

Both of them pretended to not hear anything, getting lost in the large pieces of paperwork again.

He sighed and took the call.

“Your excellency. The number increased to fifteen cases of mutation and twenty-nine cases of deaths in Naqueser.”

A deep voice transmitted from the crystal as a man in black spoke in a numb voice.

44!

“How did it get so bad?! Do the guys at your Doom Patrol branch go to sleep before 9 PM?!”

The fat on Zhou Anping's face jiggled as he rebuked loudly.

“Your excellency, the Axial Shield was destabilized for almost five seconds. The fact that we managed to keep it down to under 50 is due to pure luck.”

Zhou Anping could not find retort to that resigned tone of voice

This is going to be a pain in the ass to explain to the emperor.

Ah, screw it.

Ying Mei’s beautiful face turned anxious as she looked at the convulsing Long Tian on the bed. She kept looking back and forth between him and the door, anxiously in wait.

Removing the large beads of sweat on his forehead, she felt the scalding, hot temperature of his body that kept rising.

This

She stared at Long Tian with an anxious expression.

“You are going to be alright. Young master”

The reassurance seemed to be aimed at herself instead of Long Tian. One of her hands ruffled through his wet long brown hair, while the other held his hand.

Ouch

Despite feeling the scalding heat on her palm, she held his hand even tighter, as if trying to give him reassurance.

“It’s been more than 10 minutes, why the hell has church of Bellathor not sent anyone already?!

She complained loudly as her slanted eyebrows scrunched up in indignance, making her gentle face look even more elegant.

What an incompetent bunch of swindlers! This is why they have fallen behind the other churches.

*thuck*

“Well, I am sorry for being late, my child. Naques—well, the entirety of HuaXia itself is in a bit of a bind."

A blurry figure in a white robe quickly rushed to her side as a peaceful, resonant voice reached her ears.

Ying Mei goggled at the middle-aged face that smiled warmly at her, panicking a bit. A small circular ornament with a small sword piercing it hung from his neck

Bishop Yosef, one of the paramount figures in the church of Bellathor, and a legendary figure in the continent of Raoqen. She had only seen him from the crowd as a child. However, his legends and ethereal demeanor had left a clear mark in psyche, even as a child.

She sighed in relief.

Thankfully, I did not say that last part out loud.

“Thank you for not cursing us loudly.”

Ying Mei froze like a chicken, stiffly turning her neck towards Bishop Yosef, who just smiled radiantly in response.

He sent a healing technique towards her, quickly restoring her burned palm to normalcy.

"Well, what do we have here?"

Long Tian's muscles were squirming like large black snakes, while his purplish veins seemed to want to twist and escape out of his skin.

“My child, how long has it been since the last blessing?”

A peaceful, holy voice asked Ying Mei.

“6 hours ago, Reverend Yosef”

Mei Ying replied in an anxious tone as she looked back at Long Tian.

“It seems like this child would require a higher-level blessing.”

He slowly brought out an old golden-white book from his spatial ring.

Quickly browsing through, he stopped at a page with a complex rectangular diagram.

*RIPPPP*

Tearing off the page, he made a small cut on his left cephalic vein.

*Slit*

A small amount of golden-red blood slithered out of his broken skin. The cut on his skin wriggled and healed within a few milliseconds. Using the blood, he scribbled a rough diagram similar to the necklace on his neck.

*SIZZLEEEEEEEE*

As soon as the insignia of blood was completed, the page burned with a golden hue, suspending itself in the air.

Reverend Yosef quickly brought out a few other things that Ying Mei did not recognize.

A drop of liquid from an ancient yellow container.

A few pieces of root.

A piece of reddish black metal.

As he threw them one by one at the floating paper, the flame around the insignia flared stronger and stronger.

With each flare, the surrounding papers beside the insignia seem to disappear bit by bit, as if phasing out of reality. Soon, the page started turning ethereal, flickering instead of burning.

As soon as the piece of reddish black metal was sacrificed, the page quickly burned up, condensing into a red, flickering diagram that seemed to exist beyond the confines of time and space.

Gently pushing golden red light in Long Tian’s chest, he chanted in Atur.

"O, Lord Bellathor,

The God of War

The Proud Lord who ruled the eons,

The Red monarch of Raoqen,

Bestow your divine grace upon us.”

*SIZZZZZZZZZZLE*

*Flap flap*

Reverend Yosef’s golden irises burned with red hue.

The convulsing muscles and veins on Long Tian's body quickly stabilized and shrank back, his breathing quickly returning to normal.

Looking at him, Ying Mei's face slowly showed a bit of relief.

However, the red light in Reverend Yosef's eyes only got stronger and stronger.

“My child, Stand back.”

A gust of air pushed Ying Mei out of the room, shutting the door.

*Thud*

The room plunged into darkness, and even the whistling of the air died out.

All sort of energy and matter transfer had been locked within this room,, with no form of energy going in or out.

Only an ethereal red insignia was left burning on Long Tian's chest. Soon, it enveloped the dark room, becoming brighter and brighter.

Slowly, a large amount of viscous black liquid was expelled out of Long Tian’s pores, including his mouth, eyes and nose. A pungent, rotten and revulsive smell that seemed to be from outside of this world was released from the black pus.

“mWoPP#Wo cODOS##OPLsPs########”

The viscous black pus wriggled and writhed as it let out an incomprehensible wail, burning a hole through the bed, quickly expanding and becoming larger and larger by each second, soon enveloping the whole room.

Bishop hid Long Tian behind him as he ripped off his necklace in preparation.

"RAO########O##S#########H#M##########T#####S"

As the red light intensified, it reflected on a horrifying silhouette of a large, distorted black face that almost encompassed the entire room.

“Hmph”

With a loud snort from Bishop Yosef, a large red fire burst out and enveloped the expanding black liquid, burning fiercely.

“Fin#######you#win#now##bu#soo##only#################”

The shrill noise got louder and louder, quickly becoming more and more clear as it fizzled out under the continuous assault of the red fire.

“Soon”

A deep, husky, otherworldly voice left behind a clear warning as it’s traces were removed from this world. The flickering red light reflected on Bishop Yosef's face as he stared at the scene.

The light from outside entered the room again as Yosef’s robes fluttered, revealing the room in front of him.

The entire room had turned into a kaleidoscope of black and white, leaving signs of decay wherever it touched. Almost all the furniture had broken down and decayed, leaving behind pieces of rubbles and splinters. Even the floor had caved in deep.

Soon

Bishop Yosef's eyes flashed with a bit of pity.

Sighing, he finally stared at Long Tian laying in front of him.

*Click*

The door opened, revealing Bishop Yosef with a naked Long Tian on his hands.

Ying Mei looked at the bare body of Long Tian, blushing as she took him from Bishop.

Soon, she caught a glance at the scene from her peripherals, causing all the hair on her body to rise up.

*Thud*

A strong grip landed on her shoulder, preventing her from instinctively turning her neck towards the scene.

“Do not look.”

Bishop Yosef looked towards Ying Mei, adorning a kind smile on his face.

“My Child, that should stabilize him completely. However, it would take a while before he wakes up.”

Ying Mei nodded, staring at the peaceful Long Tian that slept in her hand.

“Thank you, Reverend Yosef”

A crisp feminine voice came from behind.

Marchioness Mei was standing in front of the elevator, adorning a kind smile on her unnaturally pretty face.

“Lady Mei”

Reverend Yosef nodded back nonchalantly, quite different from his kind attitude from earlier.

Hundreds of years of serving people had let him to have an impeccable perception of the human psyche. This beautiful woman who hid her viciousness with a kind smile was the type of person he feared and loathed the most.

“I apologize for flying up without permission, Lady Mei. But had I waited anymore, it would have gotten even more troublesome.”

“Reverend Yosef does not have to worry about that. Did you have breakfast yet?”

A sweet voice replied without a hint of blame.

He prepared to leave, replying in an unhurried manner.

“Thank you for the offer. Maybe next time.”

*Ting*

Marchioness thoughtfully gazed at the leaving bishop, whispering in a soft voice.

“MeiMei, do not open that door until doom patrol arrives.”

.

Bishop Yosef appeared in a brown landscape. An area of over three hundred meters had turned brown, as if it had somehow passed a innumerable amount of time

Everything in the area was withered.

Bishop looked at the withered bodies laid in front of a devasted large factory, sighing

"Child, how many were affected?"

A woman in black replied softly as stared at the devastated landscape.

"43"

Bishop felt his heart falter at the number of deaths, quickly performing a ritual for the dead souls.

"May your Lords accept your souls in their benovelence."

He turned around, staring at an autobike that seemed to have gone through thousands of years of decomposition.

The black metals on it's body were heavily rusted, turning brittle and brown. It felt as if a strong wind would manage to break it down.

As he looked at the rows of bodies, one of them particularly caught his attention. It's hands were held down together on it's chests, holding a worn out doll in it's withered hands.

It had protected the doll with even at the face of death.
