Chapter 6 - The first sign

In another corner of HuaXia, a province much larger than Naqueser stood proudly.

A gigantic mountain that seemed to defy the heavens stood in the middle, piercing through the blue sky, seemingly without an end. The peak of the mountain was submerged in a hazy mist that seemed to exist for an eternity. Surrounding the mountain, smaller peaks sat in a tilted manner, as if prostrating in it's sheer brilliance.

Summit of the Gods. Once, the myths of Raoqen whispered the brilliance of the Summit of the Gods. However, the era had changed. It was now the home of the Tribe of Yin, one of the four pillars of HuaXia. A myriad of large wooden houses nestled into the peaks, their lights flickering on and off like fireflies in the dark night.

Above the gigantic Summit of the Gods, a vast platform shrouded in grey and blue hazy mist stretched out endlessly. Looking at the mountain, one may perceive that the mountain peak would eventually thin itself at the peak, however, that could not be further than the truth. The concept of space seemed to be distorted here, without any ending.

A large man taller than 3 meter stood silently in the blue maze, adorning a single blue loincloth on his waist. His broad bronze back, which seemed to be made out of chiseled marble, was covered by a large ethereal manta ray tattoo that extended like tentacles.

He looked fervently towards the blue sky, chanting in the language of the Gods, Atur.

“The Mythical Beast who roams above the Heavens and Earth

The Sovereign of All Secrets that Permeates through the Cosmos

The Master of Yin, The Keeper of Night, The Observer of All.

I beseech thee to unveil the string of destiny that binds us.”

The air pressure around the platform got stronger and stronger, causing his loincloth to flutter violently.

*CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*

The sky above the continent of Raoqen got enshrouded by a starry 'Illusory Ray of Yin', alarming every existence within.

*****

Somewhere far into the continent of Raoqen.

A man with long black hair sat in a desolate desert. Encircling him was a colossal red serpentine creature that spanned miles. On it's triangular forehead was a sapphire red gem that glowed dazzlingly in the soft the light of the bonfire.

*Ssssss*

He glanced at the sizzling, dark brown piece of meat as his stomach grumbled. Feeling bored, he looked at the sleepy snake, smirking mischievously,

“Haru, do you want a piece?”

“Nay, you can have it, you puny human. Let alone that piece, even a hundred of them would barely fill the space inside this Lord’s teeth. Hmph”

A crisp voice of a young girl rang inside his head, as if replying in a habitual manner. The man seemed to be playful as he bit into the fat piece of meat, not caring about the drizzling fat dripping off it as he ate with gusto.

“Well, your loss. I shall enjoy this Spiral godworm.”

Right after replying, the annoyed snake seemed to have finally noticed the anomaly. She had been asked this question one too many times! Every single time!

“WHY DO YOU ALWAYS ASK THE SAME QUESTION, YOU RETARDED HUMAN?”

The man winked at the squealing snake that seemed to want to devour him. The surrounding bizarre lifeforms shook at the loud shout, quickly hiding inside the desert. He devoured the piece of meat in a few seconds. After annoyedly staring at him for a while, it chose to go back to sleep instead of arguing.

*CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*

Feeling the change in the sky, both the man and beast stared up.

“This is”

The man’s pupil dilated as he stared up at the sky that had changed marvelously. His confused face soon lit up in comprehension, the awe in his eyes transforming into profound joy. A deep scar that stretched from above his eyebrow to his left cheek widened and rippled with excitement.

“HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA”

Haru was not at all bothered by his laugh, because she was too busy looking at the sky in wonder and yearning.

*SMACK*

The man in red loudly slapped the large snake, causing it to squirm and jump in pain.

*THUD THUD*

The sand peaks around them began to breakdown, causing a sand avalanche around the surrounding area. The surrounding spirit animals flew in panic. Quickly, even insects did not exist in the area of a hundred miles,

“Ow, Ow Ow, You human, why did you hit me out of nowhere?”

“Spit it out.”

The snake's expression paused at the abrupt question, looking puzzled.

“…………spit what out? you bastard, do not change the topic”

“That black ring”

“Huh?”

Haru thought hard and long before she finally realized what he was talking about. He was talking about that stupid black ring he had fed her when she was still a puny spirit beast. A long time had passed since then. Back then, she followed whatever this stupid man told her to do, which annoyed her even more.

“Right! Here you go.”

She smiled deviously as her serpentine, round neck expanded, shooting out a huge black ring towards him. The man smirked at the rebellious Haru, seemingly anticipating this already. Quickly, He jumped up on her smooth sapphire gem.

*Whish*

*THUDDDDDDDD*

His expression turned serious as he stared back at the starry sky. His black eyes reflected the myriads of stars above.

The first sign is here. It seems like my life has not been in vain.

Haru seemed to have had enough as her serpentine red eyes burned with rage.

Another strange scene of a snake chasing a ring was seen across the sky that night.

“Feng Huan”

Long Tian looked at the sky above, muttering as he stared at the familiar sky, his expression one of strong of nostalgia as he reminisced. He had missed this familiar sky very much.

“No use in asking me, my friend. This phenomenon has happened for the first time, at least to my knowledge.”

Long Tian seemed unconvinced, asking curiously again as he looked back at his friend.

"That was the Yin tribe, right? Are they going through another awakening ceremony?”

“Nah, this is no awakening ceremony. You saw them before. The mythical beasts never covered the entire sky like this in the past. Plus, laws set by the first emperor state that awakenings should happen on the first day of the year.”

As if to contradict his word, a brilliant starfall graced their eyes soon. Thousands of strings of light left the sky, each falling like pieces of stars as they flew into different parts of HuaXia. They both stared at each other in a puzzled manner.

*****

In the province of Xentheria, where the Summit of the Gods lay.

A small boy in tattered clothes sat in one of the prisons on a distant peak, far away from the Summit of the Gods. He was sitting in a dark, gloomy room. The room seemed to be devoid of proper light or air source, with small bits of space left just in order to make sure he did not die out of suffocation. However, it was no blessing, as it was intended to cause a slow, painful death.

*Growl*

His cheeks had sunk in from a lack of nourishment. Even the huge turmoil outside was none of his business, as he was struggling to even move. He smiled sadly as he felt the impending doom inching closer with each and every second.

He should have certainly died here, quickly becoming a name that would not have brought any recollection whatsoever.

*Whish*

However, fate seemed to have something else in store. A bright light filled the entire room, illuminating his small face brightly. His eyes were gauged out, while his ears had been ripped off and burned. He should have absolutely died from blood loss, however, someone intently healed them. Only to the extent to where it would not kill him.

The strong light enveloped him, leaving behind a pair of golden eyes filled with vengeance.

*Thud*

*Thud*

*Thud*

Another teenage boy with a short stature stood below one of the larger peaks. He was punching at the red wooden plank that had gotten bloody.

*Thud*

*Thud*

As the pain numbed his heart, he seemed to hear the mockery of his own people, right beside his ear.

“Ming Fan, you failed again? Don’t worry, you can just take over your dad’s business.”

“Oh, Ming Fan? Right, that loser—no, he is not my friend.”

The past two months have been hell for him. After fourteen years, his chances of awakening had gone down to being slim to none, Hence, he had finally been abandoned by everyone close to him. Even his supportive parents could no longer bear it, choosing to just stay silent in order to not hurt him. But every time he looked at his dad, whose back hunched more dad by day, his felt his soul dying a bit.

*Whish*

“This is*

The boy paused at the ray of light that filled his peripherals. His arms, which burned in pain just a moment ago, got increasingly warmer and warmer.

*Sizzle*

A small tattoo of a ray manifested on his newly healed hand as he felt a burn. However, this burn only brought him an inexplicable sense of joy. Oh, how he had wished for this moment for years! He had seen this moment in his dreams every night. He rubbed his hand as he murmured softly.

“First gate”

A pair of intricate gauntlets manifested on his hand.

*SMASH*

The wooden plank got broken into pieces.

Glowing ethereal pieces of light landed on tens of thousands of people in HuaXia, bringing boundless joy all around the tribe of Yin.

In the hazy mist of the summit, Duke Han coughed out blood. A pair of crimson streaks trailed his eyes as he murmured with fear.

"No, no, t-that's incomplete. NO. NO!"

His broad back, once majestic, had now converted into a mere shadow of it's past, his entire being turning into bones and skin. He felt his body fall as his mind fell into despair.

*Thud*

**

In the capital of HuaXia.

“Han. Oh Han. Was there really no other way?”

A fair young man sat on a large grey throne that squirmed in a rhythmic manner, his pensive gaze fixed on the heavens above, whispering softly. Beside him stood a veiled girl, the ten beads on her hands circling around her hand, similarly squirming, as if the two were synced together.
