Chapter 10

Thunder boomed outside, the rain spilling down the windows of Cadmus' office as a storm raged over Mystara. He sat at his desk, scrolling through emails and sipping a cup of coffee. His thoughts were interrupted by a loud knock on the door. "Come in," he called, setting down his cup. A deep voice answered, "Good morning, Lord Cadmus."

Cadmus looked up, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Good morning. What's the report?" The figure stepped into the room, their form shrouded in darkness. "I have files for the upcoming spring gala from Grandseer Eclipse." Cadmus took the file, his eyes scanning the contents. "Any word on Vorrik?" The figure shook their head. "I'm afraid not, Lord Cadmus. After he trashed his office, he seemed to have disappeared."

Cadmus' expression darkened. "Keep searching. I don't want him to ruin my gala. And make sure the guards know that Vorrik is not allowed entry under any circumstances." "Understood," the figure replied, their voice carrying a hint of authority.

Cadmus watched as they disappeared, the door closing softly behind them. He returned to his computer, his eyes narrowing as he watched security footage of Vorrik beating a young Umbraen man. “Why are you acting like this?' he wondered, his brow furrowed in concern. Cadmus knew of Vorrik's reputation as a dangerous man, but the Vorrik on the screen was different. His anger seemed misplaced, his actions out of character. "I wonder what happened to make him like this," Cadmus mumbled to himself, his eyes never leaving the screen.

With a sigh, he closed the file and turned off the monitor, his thoughts turning to the upcoming spring gala. He stood and made his way to the meeting room, where he found Grandseer Eclipse waiting for him. She was an older woman, her face pale, her white hair contrasting with her black robes. “Lord Cadmus, a pleasure as always," she said, her voice carrying a hint of otherworldly wisdom.

Cadmus smiled, his eyes warm. "Hello, Eclipse. I received your files. Everything seems to be in order." Eclipse inclined her head, her eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. "I'm glad. I would not want to disappoint." Cadmus chuckled, taking his seat across from her. "Oh, of course not. Tell me, what have you heard about the recent storms and strange phenomena around the islands?"

Eclipse's eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze turning inward. "Well, it is believed to be caused by the weather. But, if I am honest, I think it's the work of someone who can harness the storms." She tapped the desk, her eyes never leaving Cadmus'. "There are Drakyr who can do such a thing, no?" Cadmus' eyes narrowed, his voice steady. "Yes, the Drakyr, or perhaps a powerful Siren. Have you noticed any signs of such magic, or spoken with the other seers?" Eclipse shook her head, her expression pensive. "None, my Lord. But, if I may make a suggestion?" Cadmus leaned forward, his eyes curious. "Of course."

"Send a patrol around the islands. Maybe they can spot the source. I will also contact the other Grandseers and inform them." Cadmus nodded, his eyes thoughtful. "Perfect. Thank you, Eclipse. You are dismissed, and please, keep me updated." Eclipse bowed, her eyes never leaving Cadmus'. "Yes, Lord Cadmus."

As she turned to leave, her eyes seemed to stare through him, and she quickly recovered, her hand gripping the doorknob tightly. "My..." Cadmus raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Something the matter, Grandseer?" Eclipse's eyes searched his, her voice soft but insistent. "You have a busy future ahead, my Lord. I see anger, love, and grief." Cadmus' expression remained unreadable, his voice calm. "Is that all?" Eclipse hesitated, her eyes never leaving his. "The future is unclear, my Lord. I am sorry." Cadmus smiled, his eyes warm. "It is quite alright. I'll see you at the gala."

Eclipse bowed once more and left the room, closing the door softly behind her. Cadmus sighed, his eyes turning to the window as the rain continued to fall. He shook his head, his thoughts turning inward. "It is of no concern," he murmured, his gaze distant. "I'll see you at the gala, Eclipse." With a final sigh, he stood and made his way back to his office, his steps heavy with the weight of his thoughts. He sat down at his desk, the files neatly stacked and awaiting his attention.
