Jack sat there on the bench, to the other’s he seemed as a calm or detached person but in actuality, he was testing out one of the spells that Raelag had left behind as a must learn spell. The spell was called [Phantom Duplicate] and it’s main usage was scouting. When the spell was activated the caster would create a phantom duplicate of himself that only those that he approves can see.
It was invisible to the naked eye and unless a special observance spell was used, it could not be detected. Well, Dao Seeking and Origin level experts were a different case in that regard. What was good about this spell was that it let the person perceive everything in a certain radius of the duplicate. That radius depended on the caster’s own strength.
The probing done with the duplicate would be completely undetectable in this Cosmos because the duplicate harmonizes with the Energy in the surroundings to get feedback instead of sending his own Energy out like a Qi Sense does.
After looking around the Manor and eaves dropping on the conversations of people, Jack got the general gist of things. The current Merchant Hall Master and his son were extremely arrogant people. Since their word was law here, they acted like kings. The only reason the higher ups did not know about this was because there was no evidence left behind. Also, every person that wanted to report the corruption mysteriously vanished, so the father and son pair could keep up their little reign of terror. This city had four Origin Realm experts standing guard over it but they were usually meditating and didn’t keep an eye on these kinds of things.
It must be said that the Father son pair had hidden their vileness deeply because the Ancestor himself had come to the city hundreds of times but even he himself couldn’t find any clues of those vile doings of theirs. This visit from the Ancestor was a sudden one, so they did not have the time to put on their act and clean up all the traces.
Jack was applauding the pair inside his head though. It was not easy to keep up such a farce without anyone from the higher ups catching a wind of this.
“Seems like the Origin Realm Experts currently stationed here aren’t all that reliable….” This thought crossed Jack’s head as he summarized the situation. That guess was based on the fact that there were four Origin Realm Experts here and none of them knew any of these deeds? Just the fact that the father son pair took residence in the Lord’s Manor in itself was a major violation of Sect Rules.
The trashing of the Manor continued and Jack just sighed to himself, “Damn old foggey, what use is the Manor going to be if you are going to demolish it?” Jack was getting kind of ticked at the fact that Shu had already destroyed a part of the Manor with his rampaging. Jack was supposed to live here and the first thing instead of selecting a room for himself was going to be building a room for himself.
Jack looked up and saw the sky slowly turning dark. Jack stood up and jumped on top of the Manor Walls and looked at the setting sun. It had been around noon when the two arrived at the city. They walked through the city so that Shu would have time to explain all the major locations and such to Jack. That in itself only took an hour or two but the rampage inside the Manor had been going on for well over six hours already. From Shu’s enraged shouting and occasional slapping sounds it was obvious that it was not going to end anytime soon.
Although Jack had a special identity, he didn’t have the same kind of strength as Shu had, so trying to go and calm him down with his current weak self would be the same as suicide. Most of the servants had also gathered at the garden by now, dropping everything that they were doing to listen in on the retribution.
In the beginning they had been quite happy that the tyrannical father son pair was put in their place but after the demolishing started they started feeling scared. Jack felt his stomach growl from emptiness and after feeling that, he let out a sigh as he stood up and walked to the gates again. The two guards backs were now soaked from the cold sweat that they had got from listening to the enraged shouting and reprimanding of Shu.
When Jack tugged at one of the Guards hands to get his attention, the other flinched so violently that he almost chopped off Jack’s head. When he saw that Jack was completely fine, he let out a deep breath of relief. Jack didn’t mind it much because just from this reaction it was obvious how on the edge they all were.
If Shu decided to hold them accountable as well, there was no escaping death. It was already commendable that they had not abandoned their post and run to the four corners of the globe.
Jack asked for the directions to one of the cheapest inn’s that also served a good meal. The guard didn’t seem to be thinking clearly as he gave Jack the directions to the inn at the edge of the city. Jack thanked the guard and went on his way, trying to find the inn.
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
There were two reason he was going to an inn at the moment, first he had a feeling that Shu was not going to calm down and remember him any time soon and second, he didn’t have a lot of money. He had a lot of Contribution Points but nearly not enough money to stay at a rich hotel that served the best cuisines.
Back when he was roaming the Worlds, he was a cultivator, he had no direct need for food as absorbing the Qi had the same effect in filling his stomach. Also, Mortal Foods contained a lot of impurities that would hinder his path more than help him. Back then, he also had no need for sleep but currently he was the lowest level Mage so now there was.
The only difference between him and a regular mortal was that he could use a few spells but that was all. The Path of Magic was very different from a cultivators.
When Jack had disappeared over the horizon, the guard suddenly thought to himself, “Why did he ask for an Inn? Sect Disciples could stay at the Merchant Hall for a small fee of Contribution Points. Also, he came with the Ancestor of the Merchant Hall, so he would probably be given the best treatment there was without having to pay any Contribution Points what so ever….”
As Jack wandered through the streets, he saw many interesting scenes. Usually, every time he entered a town, he was always on the edge and always on guard. He had no time to enjoy the scenery so strutting around town as a tourist was many times more interesting. It didn’t matter that the sun had fallen already, all the shops seemed to be still bustling with activity. In a red lamp district, most places opened for business only now.
Jack kept looking around with interest and he drew quite a bit of confused gazes from the other people on the streets. Everyone could see from the giant Dragon Cross emblem on Jack’s shirt that he was part of the Sect but he wandered the streets as though he had not seen a city before. They concluded that Jack was someone that had been in closed doors training for most of his life and this was the first time he had come out to experience the world.
Suddenly, Jack’s eyes stopped on a little fur ball in a cage. The shopkeeper standing in front of the cages was shouting for everyone to come and take a closer look at the Spirit Animals. When someone asked a question, he immediately started ranting about his best products and things about discounts and so on.
The assistants of the shop were all very busy as well either by caring for the Spirit Animals or introducing the Spirit Animals to potential customers. Jack walked in front of the cage and stared intently at the little guy in the cage. It was not big, only the size of a grown man’s hand, it had light blue fur and on it’s little head were two little horns.
Currently the little creature was in the farthest corner of the cage, curling into a ball. When Jack came to look at the creature, a young assistant was trying to get it to eat. However, the little creature looked at the food for a second before closing it’s eyes. The little creature gave off a lonely feeling as it scanned his little cage every now and then with a lonely gaze.
Jack stared at the creature with a sympathising gaze as he heard the assistant sigh softly, “Why won’t you eat? You will only grow weaker if you don’t eat.” There wasn’t any anger in the assistants tone but rather sorrow. It seemed to hurt the assistant to see a Spirit Animal starving like that.
The little creature opened his eyes and his eyes seemed to notice Jack. It was about to close his eyes again when he saw a gaze similar to his own. He stared intently at Jack’s eyes seemingly trying to read his Soul. When the assistant saw that, he looked sideways and suddenly saw Jack standing next to him having a stare down with the little creature. He had been looking after the creature for over a month and this was the first time he saw him look at someone or something for more than five seconds.
The assistant immediately reported this to the shop keeper and even he was astonished as he quickly made his way to the little creatures cage. When he saw Jack having a stare down with the little creature, he immediately walked next to him. He said, “Young friend, do you wish to buy this little Poro?” Jack turned his head towards the shop keeper and seemed to be hesitating. It wasn’t that he didn’t wish to buy him but rather he lacked the funds to do so.
Seeing Jack torn like that, the shop keeper smiled and said, “Don’t worry, our shop is affiliated with Dragon Cross, you can purchase him with Contribution Points.” The shop keeper seemed to be used to these kinds of situations. Dragon Cross was the biggest Sect in the Cosmos and it’s currency was Contribution Points. Inside the Sect, you didn’t need money so most Disciples never wore much money on them unless they were the extravagant young master like people.
Jack immediately purchased the little Poro with his Contribution Points and when he opened the cage door, the shop keeper wanted to force the little Poro into a Master-Servant Contract but Jack stopped him. Just as the shop keeper wanted to ask him something, Jack raised his palm and a light blue snowflake the size of a palm appeared on his palm. He extended the palm inside the cage and the Poro seemed to read his mind as he gently nudged it with his little forehead.
When the little Poro came in contact with the snow flake, it lit up and split into two balls of light. One of the balls flew onto the little Poro’s forehead and the other flew to Jack’s forehead. The light entered their heads and imprinted itself onto their Souls.
This was the highest level Contract that Jack knew from Raelag’s Legacy. It was called the [Pact of Equals] and it was one of the most important spells of a Mage.
Every Mage can take on one Contracted Beast in their life and the contract was dissolved only when one of them died.
