40: Kaboom!

"How is your study of magic going, Chi-Chi?" asked Bulma to the young girl in front of her, who was concentrating on the magic book.

"This is the third time I've read it, there are always new details that impress me," Chi-Chi replied, before hesitating for a moment and closing the book.

"You don't want to learn any other magic besides Magic Materialization?" asked Chi-Chi with curiosity and doubt.

"Yes, because even though I have magical talent, I prefer to concentrate on Ki. Besides, this spell suits me best, see, I can already create some things," Bulma pointed at her body and changed her current clothes into a new design.

She was now wearing a blue blouse, short jeans, and long purple tights that adorned her legs. Noticing that the look seemed to suit her quite well, Bulma was pleased, but inwardly, she breathed a sigh of relief.

'I practiced so much to create my Cloth Beam. Why did my failed attempts always leave me naked?' Bulma complained mentally, though she wore a proud smile on the outside.

Chi-Chi was surprised to see this, she could barely create some simple things with Magic Materialization, she didn't know why, but this spell was more complicated for her than the elemental and special spells contained in the book.

"Can you give me some tips? I'm having a hard time creating anything other than rocks or pieces of iron," Chi-Chi approached Bulma, using puppy dog eyes to convince her friend to help her.

"I think so, but I'll tell you that this spell is very well suited to me because of my condition, so some of my perceptions may be wrong or difficult to replicate," Bulma explained before looking out the window.

The two of them were in the living room of the house, which was contained by one of Bulma's capsules, outside Goku could be seen sitting in meditation. A small bird landed on the boy's head, but it did not distract him.

"Looks like Goku won't be able to join us, he must be chatting with his 'other self', how envious," Bulma clicked her tongue, her tone full of jealousy.

"You still can't interact directly with your 'other self'? At least you have an extra source of power," Chi-Chi was the one who deserved to be jealous because as a human, she didn't have those special 'bonuses' of Goku and Bulma.

"No, I can't. But don't be like that, you don't need something like that, humans have special abilities, didn't you know that? The Ki training method accustoms your body to explode with more power than you should have.

If we add Master Gohan's technique, this ability is something you can control, don't neglect your Ki training just because you want to be a witch, Chi-Chi," Sensing her friend's emotions, Bulma put her hand on Chi-Chi's black hair, reassuring her.

"Well, I'm not neglecting my training, there are some spells that are good to practice, you know?" Chi-Chi's eyes sparkled with excitement, but she soon calmed down when she remembered the previous topic.

"Teach me what you know about Magic Materialization! Especially the changing of clothes, I want to be able to wear whatever I want whenever I want" Chi-Chi admired Bulma's body, imagining all the outfits she could wear, though suddenly her cheeks became very red as certain thoughts assaulted her mind.

Noticing that Chi-Chi's emotions were taking a strange turn, Bulma glanced at Oolong, who entered the living room with a juice box in his hand. The young man stared at Bulma intently, trying not to focus on the blue-haired girl's legs.

"Look, we can practice with Oolong," Bulma's words added another layer to Chi-Chi's strange thoughts, causing the red in her cheeks to disappear, actually turning her pale.

"No!" Chi-Chi denied, crossing her hands as she shook her head from side to side.

"Hey, you wish you had someone like me to test your spells on. Even though I look like an Orc, I'm not as abnormal as they are," Oolong said, referring to the RPG video games that were becoming popular lately.

"I don't know what kind of Orc you have in mind, Oolong," Bulma said, not wanting to feel her partner's emotions and guessing that the boy was having strange thoughts.

"Anyway, Chi-Chi, Magic Materialization, as I understand it, is..." Bulma began to explain to Chi-Chi her ideas and perceptions about this particular spell.

It may seem simple, just allowing you to 'create' some objects with Ki, maybe some pretty nice clothes, but this magic has one of the most interesting applications in Dragon Ball.

It seems to be a downgraded version of the Kaio-Shin's creative abilities, allowing a mage to approach the 'divine', so to speak. Not surprisingly, many of the mages that have appeared in Dragon Ball have some sort of relationship with the gods.

Uranai Baba, Muten Roshi's older sister, is something of an agent of the afterlife, being able to travel to the afterlife and bring the souls of the deceased back to the earthly plane, something not everyone can do.

Bibidi and Babidi, like Moro, had the gods themselves as their enemies. Therefore, the association of Magic Materialization with the creative abilities of the gods is obvious.

Especially in the Tournament of Power, where Daishinkan created the arena with the strongest material in the 12 universes. That was one of the higher applications of this spell, although it could be considered more of a god-like ability.

As a human who was essentially a Plant, Bulma was not a goddess, but she had certain traits that would make her a divine being to an ignorant person. Plant's abilities to heal, regenerate, and generate resources demonstrated certain creative qualities of these beings.

For this reason, this spell was perfect for Bulma, allowing her to touch the creative power of her 'other self' in advance, and even though it was limited to inorganic matter for now, who said that Bulma could not reach the level of creating something living?

Therefore, many of her ideas and insights regarding this spell were somewhat incomprehensible to Chi-Chi, but wisely, the young girl wrote down the words as well as the key points Bulma told her.

Perhaps when she has more knowledge and experience, she can revisit these notes for some sort of inspiration. However, with what she could understand at this point, many things could be solved for Chi-Chi.

...

"Are you sure you can do it now?" asked Oolong, who was hiding behind the couch, all because of what had just happened.

Chi-Chi tried to create something that looked like a robe, but what she did end up bursting into flames, and according to Bulma, it was a failed reaction in her spell that she could make better by adjusting certain parameters.

It always ended in an explosion! For the same reason, Oolong went into hiding, not wanting to become dinner for a Christmas that had not yet arrived. Bulma, however, stayed by Chi-Chi's side, guiding her the whole time.

"Well, I guess she can do it now," Bulma said, nodding, and her calm demeanor made Chi-Chi pluck up her courage.

"Magic Materialization!" as an inexperienced person, Chi-Chi had to chant the spell, but perhaps because of the adjustments she had made while performing this spell, what she wanted finally appeared in front of her.

A pair of dark blue bracelets floated in the air and fell into Chi-Chi's hands. At that, Bulma smiled, then noticed that Goku seemed to be disturbed by the constant explosions and entered the house.

"Bulma, why so many explosions?" asked Goku before he looked at the clothes Chi-Chi was holding and stopped.

"Look, Goku! This... is a gift for you," Chi-Chi approached Goku and carefully handed him the bracelets.

Goku held the robes carefully in his hands, his head bowed, staring at both bracelets. His eyes filled with tears, but he was not sad, but happy.

"Thank you!" Goku suddenly hugged Chi-Chi, making her blush, but she returned the hug.

"I don't understand, why is there so much excitement about magically created clothes?" asked Oolong, who came out from behind the sofa.

"Because they are similar to the bracelets that Goku's father wore," Bulma replied, causing Oolong to remain silent.

Although he had only recently met this trio of strange and powerful boys, Oolong could say that he knew them quite well. He knew that Goku was not human and that his people had been exterminated, so out of respect, he never delved into that subject.

When he saw Goku putting on his bracelets with excitement, Oolong couldn't help but smile as well. He could understand his new friends a little better now and felt that it was worth it to join their group.

"Bulma... maybe it was all the explosions, but I think I can try to cast a new spell," Chi-Chi turned around and told Bulma a conclusion she had come to.

Bulma noticed that there was something else in Chi-Chi's emotions, a strong desire to show her progress, it seemed that Goku's embrace made her want to show how powerful she was.

"Then throw it!" Bulma encouraged, causing Chi-Chi to nod excitedly.

"Let's go out first!" called Chi-Chi, making the group follow her.

Soon, they were in the garden they had finally built in front of the house the capsule had created. Doctor Norimaki and his family lived next door, and as if she had sensed them, Arale ran out with Turbo in her hands.

"Arale feels like they're going to do something fun," said Arale herself, looking around until she came across Chi-Chi, who felt strange.

To her, Goku and Bulma were interesting, Oolong was fun, but Chi-Chi was boring. She hadn't seen her doing anything interesting except training or reading that magic book she couldn't read.

"Chi-Chi is going to cast a spell," Oolong said, and the excitement returned to the gynoid's eyes.

"Magic is fun! Will she turn someone into a carrot or an apple?" asked Arale, but this time it was Chi-Chi who answered him.

"No, I just want to show off some of my recent efforts," Chi-Chi gave Goku a sidelong glance before looking up at the sky.

Her gaze became serious and a strange feeling surged through her body. If Ki was supposed to create an aura of energy around the user when certain techniques were used, magic also had something similar.

Chi-Chi raised her right palm to the sky and the 'magical' energy around her took on a color, red.

But unlike Goku's crimson red, this one had more of a pink hue. Chi-Chi's fingers wiggled in a strange pattern as she began to recite the spell with all her concentration.

"Kaboom!" with her chant, bursts of fire came out of her hand, quickly rising into the clouds.

The flames were extremely hot, something that could be felt from a distance. The bursts of fire soon coalesced into a ball of fire that, had it been night, would have illuminated part of the surrounding area.

Then the fiery ball exploded with a terrible sound. Gusts of hot air pushed the white clouds into the sky and could be felt as a warm breeze on the ground. Chi-Chi almost stumbled, tired from using so much energy, but a hand held her up.

Chi-Chi looked at Goku, who stopped her from falling. The young Saiyan looked at her with excitement, but only Bulma realized that some of that excitement was not the usual emotion Goku felt.

'Right, Saiyans like strong women,' Bulma thought, I finally understood that it was the emotions Goku felt, it wasn't love or attraction, Goku was too emotionally immature to feel something like that, but... it was a seed of a deep emotion.

"What a great explosion! Chi-Chi, you have to train more with me!" For some reason, Goku wanted to spend more time with Chi-Chi, so he chose the best option right away.

He would train with Chi-Chi more often because he wanted to have her around!
