Volume 2 upgrade specialist upgrade chapter 29 - making a guild
Having told Gareth and Alice to go to their origin plane I returned to my own.
Ourous: welcome back. What can I do for you?
Like usual my origin plane had my thing in it however the wall had expanded out. Compared to the room before, I now had about triple the space. Looking around I was confused about what happened.
Solomon: how come the room is bigger?
Ourous: I told you before, didn't I? The stronger you are the bigger your origin plane.
I remembered her saying this before, but I assumed she meant when I went up a rank. Either way it was good. Moving on I asked her about creating a guild.
Solomon: anyway, I'd like to make a guild.
Ourous: okay, who will be its founders?
Solomon: Gareth and Alice.
Having heard from Gareth, I knew the procedure to create a guild.
Ourous: they have both accepted your proposal. Please decide on the point split.
Solomon: I will pay all of it.
Though I didn't ask the other two I'm sure they won't mind too much.
Ourous: 300 points deducted, please specify the name of your guild.
Having spent a long time on it I had come up with a suitable name. I wanted it to encapsulate what the guild stood for. It wasn't to be strong. Nor was it to make money. There was one main reason. In order to free ourselves from the dangers of this world. We wanted to be free. To escape.
Our guild name was, Wings of freedom.
That was the name I came up with after a while. After confirming with Alice and Gareth it was decided.
Solomon: Wings of freedom
Ourous: the guild Wings of Freedom has been created. Transferring founders to guild's plane now.
Once again I was instantly teleported to another room. Alice and Gareth also appeared in the room with me.
Solomon: looks like it worked.
Alice: looks so, but how come none of my points were deducted?
Scratching my cheek I answered her question.
Solomon: well you see I kind of, paid it all myself.
Both Alice and Gareth were upset when they learned I had not charged them.
Gareth: why would you do that? Weren’t we going to split the cost?
It seemed like I had upset Gareth more than I thought I would. I started explaining myself, trying to fix the situation.
Solomon: well, I got a little over 2000 points this mission. I thought being as I had so much I could cover it.
Hearing me say I had so many points both of my teammate's mouth dropped.
Alice: I didn't really think about it, but you made a lot this mission. You did complete a secret mission.
Solomon: how much did you guys make then.
I hadn't expected it to be much compared to me.
Alice:1102
Gareth:986
It was what I'd expect just for the mission they would make a lot. If you added on the bandits it made sense.
Solomon: overall we've done great this mission. After upgrading we should be safe to complete most G rank missions.
Looking around the room we saw a light in the centre of the room.
Guild bot 156: hell contestants, I am guild bot 156. Please allow me to explain how guilds work to you.
As we had heard before the guild had a light robot to help us.
Guild bot 156: firstly we are in the Guild plane. This is a shared space that all guild members can access on demand. It works like a communal origin plane. This place has many benefits to offer.
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
Firstly is guild missions. Once a week a guild can attempt one mission for its level. So you can attempt 1 G rank mission. This mission will not have any other contestants, so you will be able to complete the mission without worry.
This was the main reason we had made a guild. For the safety it added to missions.
Guild bot 156: a guild may also do progressively double the amount of missions on lower ranks. So an s rank guild a can do 2 a 4 b 8 c and so on missions. As you are G rank you can only do 20 unranked missions.
Though this was unexpected it was very helpful. If we had more members in the future it would be better to have them do missions of their level.
Guild bot 156: moving on I will explain the other benefits that come with a guild. Firstly you can buy enhancements here. You can also gift each other points and token, though this is rarely used nowadays.
This would let me give Gareth a G rank token.
Guild bot 156: it also lets members see each others stats, if both people agree. There are other benefits, but at your level this is all you have access to.
Having explained what was needed the bot fell silent.
Solomon: it seems the difference between being in a guild and not is like heaven and earth. Anyway, I have something for you.
Turning I looked at Gareth.
Gareth: you have something for me?
He seemed completely clueless as to what I wanted to give him.
Solomon: gift Gareth one G rank token.
Guild bot 156: 1 G rank token exchanged.
Having been given something so valuable Gareth instantly tried to refuse it.
Gareth: leader, I can't accept this. You risked your life to get these tokens. I'm happy with the number of points I've got.
Solomon: keep it, I already had 2. the difference between 2 or 3 tokens from a mission isn't much. Besides. Your part of my guild, how can I let you stay weak.
Understanding I hadn't made the decision without thought, he accepted the token.
Gareth; thank you, leader. I'm forever in your debt.
Kneeling down Gareth thanked me. I didn't feel this was how I wanted my comrade to thank me. Grabbing his shoulder I made him stand.
Solomon: you shouldn't thank me like that. We're comrades alright, you're my friend.
Though he was a little reticent he accepted my words.
Gareth: thank you, leader.
Solomon: you don't have to call me leader, call me Solomon.
Gareth: yes le, Solomon.
Satisfied he had understood I moved onto other things.
Solomon: all right, we should upgrade. Looks like it's time to research. Guild bot, can we edit this place like our origin realm.
Guild bot 156: the guild leader may do so.
Solomon: okay then, let's add some furniture.
Looking around I judged the room to be the size of a small hall. It was easily enough to make what we needed. At first, I added several desks with computers. I also added a sofa, TV and other recreational goods. Lastly, I made a kitchen filled with the best quality goods.
Alice: shall I make us some food?
Seeing all of the fancy equipment her eyes lit up like fireworks.
Solomon: I guess we can spare some time. While your cooking Gareth and I will lookup enhancements.
Going over to the computers I explained to Gareth what to look for.
Solomon: when you look for an enhancement you can set a filter for your results.
As I explained I showed him on my computer.
Solomon: other than what you want, make sure it has a ZZZ rank growth rate.
Gareth: growth rate?
Being he was unranked it wasn't surprising he didn't know about it.
Solomon: the growth rate is how high of a rank you can upgrade an enhancement. So if your growth rate is ZZZ you can upgrade it to ZZZ rank. The higher the growth rate the weaker the enhancement is early on. When you get to higher levels though the strength will be greater than enhancements with weaker growth rates.
It seemed he understood now.
Gareth: if that's the case should I get enhancement with a weaker growth rate. If I'm stronger early it will be easier for you to reach the higher levels.
Solomon: no, unfortunately, it wouldn't work.
At one point I did consider this myself.
Gareth: why not?
Solomon: there will always be those ranked higher than you. If you don't reach the pinnacle you will always be beneath others. What good is being strong early on, when later those stronger than you can tread on you.
Accepting what I said Gareth sat down to look at enhancements. Now I contemplated what to spend my tokens on. At first, I was going to buy two skills, but then I remembered. I could get another race with my enhancement. This would both increase my stats and give me a racial skill.
From there I thought that 2 new races would be best, however, there was an issue. What if both of the races and their skills were crap. I had got lucky with the salamander race. Though the race was decent it was dragons fire that truly made the difference. If that was the case maybe it wasn't a good idea.
Then maybe skill would be better. After a few minutes of thought, I didn't have enough info to pick one over the other. The best solution was to get one of each. Having decided that brought up another question. What skill should I get?
Though the race was random I could control what skill I got. At first, I thought another attack skill would be good. However, I already had a good one. If you counted the wide area version I had 2. thinking back to my fight with the Chieftain there was one main thing I lacked. A defence.
If I had a defensive skill then the fight would have gone a lot smoother. Especially the last part where he kicked at me. A decent skill would let me resist against that sort of attack.
Having narrowed it down I input the filters. There were 8634 results. If I judged based on before this would take me 15 hours. However as I began reading I realised I was progressing much faster. Around 3 times faster than before. Thinking about it this was probably down to my stat increase. With this increase in speed, I could sift through all the results in 5 hours.
After 40 or so minutes Alice called us over to eat. She had prepared a Sunday roast for us. Though I couldn't eat the veg, the meat was amazing. With just the right tenderness it melted in your mouth. With such a delicious meal before us, Gareth and I stuffed ourselves full.
Having satisfied ourselves we went back to enhancements. Before I started again I briefly gave Alice some advice.
Solomon: Alice, don't look for the strongest enhancement. Look for the one that would complement your old card master enhancement the most. My enhancements on their own are not the strongest, but together they combine to increase my power greatly.
Having said all I needed I went back to my own enhancements.
After 2 hours the Alice and Gareth were tired. They took a break while messing with some of the things I put in the room. Though they said I should take a break I was too engrossed in enhancements. Unlike before these skills were much more interesting. Seeing skills from series I had seen was awesome.
Thinking of how I could buy them in the future made my blood boil. However, that was too much to think about now. Focusing on the skill before me I looked through them. After another 3 hours, I had finished all the skills. Likewise, Gareth and Alice had picked out enhancements for themselves.
Unlike my system of gradually working through the benefits of skill, they both saw what they wanted and chose it. Though I couldn't say I liked it I had to accept they weren’t like me. My otaku lifestyle allowed me to spend days on a computer.
Having decided we all came to sit on the sofa.
Before we made the purchases we would all confirm with each other what we got.
