Leon flew around the area, slightly awed and frightened by the sheer number of zombies making their way towards the battle area. If he couldn't find those gates and take the pressure off, then eventually they would manage to break into the buildings and put the residents into more danger.
He started this, so he had to end it before that happened. First higher ground.
Flying above the building, then higher still, Leon Finally looked down from almost a mile up. The streets were truly packed with the undead, far more than he though. The battle are was drawing them from all over and those who went towards the battle drew those who saw them move.
The chain reaction was hadn't spread that far yet, but with time, there would be no stopping it. luck was on his side though, the zombie portal were colorless distortions, but they always formed at ground level. With very little to attract the zombies once they exited the gates, they tended to clump right on their spawn area. Leon identified four of them within 10 miles of his building.
Suddenly he fell from the sky.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" Panic swept through his mind. Instinctively reaching out for any solution, he used his [telekinesis] and air magic to slow his fall. The moment of reprieve, allowed his mind to realize hie forgot to renew [flight] before the hour was up.
His attempt to do so now was unsuccessful, as the air magic was draining his MP fast with the need to keep something as heavy Leon in the air. Forcefully calming his mind, he drank an MP potion and recast flight.
"Whew!" Sweat coated his face and shaking wracked his body at the near death experience. Checking his status, he saw he has gained 2 levels already in flight and that the re-deadening of so many undead as granted two levels as well.
Flight still cost 100 mp, but it as gained 2 mph in speed. Ten bonus points await distribution as well. he immediately throws them into INT, raising his Mp from 182 to 282.
Realizing he has no time for panic, he heads toward the nearest zombie gate. It's in a park not too far from his building. A few minutes later finds him hovering over the clear sphere of energy. It isn't currently dislodging any zombies, but that can change at any moment.
The zombies in the area have noticed him, but his biggest concern is how to destroy the gate. He has no idea how tough it is, or how it'll respond to being attacked. His summons may be able to take it down, assuming they survive long enough, but they won't.
He looks at the undead and gets an idea. Flying low enough to be just out of reach of the zombies, Leon uses his [Command Undead] skill.
40 MP disappear, but there is no change in the zombie he has targeted. Getting even closer, he triggers the skill again.
Still nothing.
Frowning Leon checks the skill.

Is it my willpower?
His willpower was currently at 10, but he didn't think that was it. Looking closely at the zombie, he realized the problem.
Corpse Puppet [Drowned]
False-zombie highly resistant to water
huh, so, these weren't considered as undead.
That is such a friggin cheat! Can't turn these puppets to my side, and can't use summons... well ten time to shop!
He had over 100k credits left so what he really needed was an attack skill that would probably become his main attack.
On average, a basic skill cost 1,000 credits, with the addition of a zero for each raise in quality. That's why Divine skills were in the billions.
Right now he could buy one Rare skill or several Superior skills. regular attack skills, he would not consider for this.
As usual, the sheer size of the selections made browsing an inefficient way to find what he wanted. he didn't have the mana for a good rare channeled spell at this level, it would run out in seconds. everything, except one shot magics, is cleared from the endless list.
Fireballs, more summons, storms, Tornadoes, and all manner of magic attacks made it seem as though the list would be endless no matter what criteria he chose.
He needed a better way to choose. First, he bought a disposable device to know what element he would be best with. Elements didn't hinder in any way but did give a slight boost when using spells of that class.
Earth 45% Water 90% Fire 68% Air 97% Light 53% Dark 17%
Between his affinities, Leon preferred to stick with his highest of air and water. Ice had the same affinity has water, while lightning had the same amount as air.
His affinities seemed custom made for some sort of storm spell, so he brought up both.

Charged Ice Storm

Class: Rare
Element: Water, Air
Frozen power fall upon them
This one cost 150 thousand credits, a significant saving, but he still didn't have the credits to pay for it. He was wondering if he should battle the false zombies until he earned enough credits when he remembers.
I'm such an idiot!
He facepalms hard at forgetting his 50% discount for the shop. with that, he only has to spend 75K and then he has plenty left over to get other skills or equipment he might need.
Opening his status, he notes that his credits haven't risen from killing the zombies. That will have to wait, though.
In the distance, he can still hear the battle and the zombies that aren't drawn to it are crowding beneath him.
"Well, no time like the present."
Hovering in place, he uses 280 mana to cast [Charged Ice Storm]
, well beyond the minimum 50. It takes a little time for the spell to build up, then it released, blue and gold energy shoot up to the sky, which starts to darken ominously.
Unsure how the spell will affect him, he flies away as quickly as possibly. The area of effect can be felt in his mind. It isn't large despite the plenty of dark clouds gathering over the park. Perhaps only 100 yards or so in diameter. That's fine, too wide and not enough power would be sent to the gate.
BOOM!
Behind him lightning falls, the massive sound from its proximity is felt in his bones as it hits with concussive force. The zombies are flung from the point of impact, charred and broken. those that survived spasm as the electric energy runs through their bodies. Then the hail begins, large palm size stalactites from the sky, target the undead, breaking through skulls. The lightning then falls in numerous strikes all within meters of the portal, if not directly on it.
Just over seven minutes later, no zombie stands withing the area of the miniature storm and the zombie gate as been destroyed, bursting like a soap bubble midway through the attack.
This attack could be used as his go to, not with such a large area of effect, but it would do nicely in destroying the gates with too many monsters near them.
Ready to leave, something catches his eye. Landing, Leon pick up the clear card from the ground. It has the number '1' on it and disappears after a few second in his hand.
Checking his status he notices the number of credits as finally risen.
So, this is the part where we need to pick up drops then? Fine.
With the destruction of the gate of the hundreds of zombies near it, he has gained two more levels and now has a total of 25 summon slots. With the fox and Bone warriors taking up 3, he has room for 22 more bone minions or 44 elemental summons.
With every bonus point thrown into INT, he now has 404 mp. Many potions later, 44 incredibly varied elemental summons stand in the park. A bit of experimenting later and he is disappointed to find that he won't automatically receive what is summons pick up.
Sighing, he buys 20 one credit bags from the store and have them pick up the hundreds of credit cards lying on the ground. After that, they are to assault the dead and collect the cards as well as anything else that might prove useful. Rinse, then repeat.
Leaving them to it, he takes to the air in search of the next portal.
The highway entrance houses a gate crawling with zombies. The area is covered in crashed vehicles of those who failed to escape the city. Unlike the zombies he's encountered before, some of these have gain levels, most likely be having killed the former passengers of the many wrecks.

The roads seemed to have drawn far more of the zombies than the park. Well, it won't matter, all he has to do is fly a few feet above the portal and repeat the storm attack.
Suddenly, the danger sense which had long become a sort of background sense in the back of his mind spikes rapidly. The number of enemies has caused the skill to grow more rapidly than any other. At level 12 it's range was 86 yard.
Whatever was coming was already well inside the danger perception range of the skill.
