Yuan grins, saying, "Now you're getting it."
"Levia, do you think that the only human desire is to kill themselves?"
"t-that's" Levias' face is getting more pale from this sudden realization.
"Why do you think they would do such a thing?" He moves his face to her ear as he whispers with a grin on his face.
"because the other way to complete their mission is if their target dies."
Levia shivers as she hugs herself. "But I'm not like them; I won't do something like that."
Yuan moves back, saying, "Because you are an idiot." If I were a devil, I would make my target kill themselves as well, because that's easy and more time-efficient. I mean, depending on your target's mentality, you might have waited for your target to die in old age if you were really unlucky."
Levia shivers at the idea that something like that might happen between him and her; she then comes to realize something.
She looked at Yuan in the eyes and said, "Is this why you hate devils?"
"No," Yuan said with a furious expression, then immediately went back to his stoned face.
"I hate them for different reasons."
He didn't continue. Levia then looked down and said, "What about the other devils in this house?" You hate them too, right? But why didn't you make their lives as bad as possible like you always do with the others?"
"Because I can tolerate them, they do their job properly, and if I trigger them somehow and do something worse, I won't be able to stop them."
I see.. That makes sense; he has lived this way since he was a young child. watching his parents listen to the devil every single day.
Although I hadn't given it much thought before, it must have been very difficult and frustrating. Being young and seeing daily attempts by devils to kill the people that he knows, it's like being isolated from the world. I guess this is the reason why, even though our personalities are different, we still have something in common.
*
Ever since I was little, I have been isolated from the outside world. I have only been out on special occasions. Being curious as a kid, I always asked my personal maid, Gilda, why I was not allowed to go out like other children, and I always heard the same answer.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Young lady, your father is a really important person, and a lot of devils might come after you because of that. That's why it's important to stay here, where it's safe."
She smiles as she caresses my head while I sit on her lap.
"Hey Gilda, do you think I will have some friends?"
"Eh, but, young lady, aren't we friends?" Gilda giggles as she keeps caressing her hair.
"You're old, though."
Gilda felt like a sword had just stabbed her heart as she kept a smile on her face. She then gently hugged Levia from behind.
"Remember that everyone here in the mansion is your friend; hm, let's see, maybe if you keep doing your best, in the future you might find a friend that's close to your age."
Levia nods and smiles joyfully. "Hey Gilda, can you tell me another prank story?"
"Another? " "You really must have liked my last story," she giggles once again.
Gilda often tells her that pranking is bad for the reason that Levia won't play a prank on her since Levia, as a kid, is really energetic and mischievous.
A woman goes through several hours of labor before giving birth successfully. After removing the little devil, the doctor leaves the room to do some tests. After a few minutes, the doctor returns with the little devil in his arms and abruptly starts to kick, punch, throw, and slam it against the wall across from him. The woman cries, "OH MY GOD, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" to which the doctor replies, "Prank!" It was already dead!
Gilda smiles and looks at the girl on her lap.
"So how was it, young lady?"
Levia looks pale, and her eyes are lifeless and empty; she is just staring into the void.
"Y-young lady?" She looked at her with a worried expression.
"That was horrible, Gilda!"
This is the first time she thought that pranks really were the evilest thing.
Even now, I still don't know the actual reason why my father didn't let me go outside, but thinking back, it's not as sad as I thought. Maybe because I have Gilda and everyone around me, they all love me and are always there for me.
She looks at the young man sitting on his bed.
But unlike me, Yuan doesn't have someone like Gilda; he grows up alone in a sense where no one in this world can understand him. He might have been curious like me as a child and asked his parents about the things that he saw, and looking at their family, I can only imagine how his parents would react.
it hurts
The same feeling as when Yuan changed his attitude towards me is here again. I feel like my chest is being crushed, which makes me want to cry.
Levia makes a serious face as she nods once.
"Okay," she points a finger towards him.
"Yuan! I will be your friend from now on!"
where Yuan immediately replied, "I don't need it." Now go back to our plans for tomorrow."

Next morning
Once again, Levia and Yuan are working separately, and while Levia searches for the devil, Yuan is getting the information.
In Yuan's classroom, there are a lot of noises around the classroom, and this is all just because of one student.
"It's almost time, and Hanna is still not here? Did she say she was sick today?"
"Yeah, it's the first time it happens."
"She was in the infirmary yesterday, so she might not be feeling well."
Her classmates keep on gossiping until the girl in question opens the door and enters the classroom. Her classmates give a smile and sigh of relief seeing her.
Yuan, sitting on the second chair next to the door, looks at Hannah.
"Good morning, Hannah, I thought for sure that this is the day you will get your first ab—"
*woosh*
Hannah just walked past him without saying a word or even looking at him, and Rikko next to him whispered.
"Maybe she is just really tired; she looks pale as well." having a worried expression on his face.
Yuan made a serious face as he thought, "I messed up."
