Chapter 0308

- Knox -

their balls, and his teeth flash out to me.

"Walk it off!" Jaxon growls at me as he pushes on my shoulder, pushing me away from his Father. I can see now why Alpha Hector has earnt his reputation. There's nothing welcoming and hospitable about him right now. Not as his shoulders stretch out, his feet lift up onto Facing the Dark Phantom pack alpha takes a lot of courage, or maybe insanity. Why was I even challenging him in the first place, why had I got so worked up...

I reason...

Red!

My own guilt clouds my judgement for returning her home with injuries, injuries that aren't healing. Why aren't they healing.

"What the fuck is going on?" Jaxon pushes me again, trying to back me away from his alpha, his father.

My jaw tensed I hold the ruthless alpha's eyes for a second longer before turning and walking away.

"Nothing!" I bark back at Jaxon, I never..never walked away from a fight.

"Nothing? Why the hell are you traveling alone with my sister and how the fuck has she got hurt." Jaxon follows me as I move towards the training fields.

I don't need to look behind to know Alpha Hector's stance is still aggressive, still watching me..as if debating whether to follow me and teach me a lesson. Perhaps I'll teach him one at the same time.

I hear a groan of pain, my body turning and my eyes flickering to Red as the Doctor starts to escort her towards the direction of the hospital. His arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

Red molten anger rises to my throat, a growl rumbling out of me as my eyes are not appreciative of what they are witnessing.

My wolf pushes forward and it takes all my strength to control him, to stop him from taking over and retrieving her. Because that is what he wants, he wants her. He's tasted her sweet nectar and like the starved crazed animal that he is, he wants more. I dig my feet into the grass, holding my body steady as I fight my wolf.

"Knox?" Jaxon impatiently roars at me, his arms now crossing as he stands there waiting for an answer. Waiting as I battle internally with myself.

"She had word from Jace." I seethe through gritted teeth as my wolf only just surrenders. Her red hair no longer in view.

"Jace?"

"He was long gone, but she went to pick up her car and asked me to take her."

"You?" Jaxon raises an eyebrow, a sneer upon his face.

"Yes me..." I didn't like his tone, that me and her would be so unbelievable. But it is isn't it, that's the deal we made. That we would both mutually walk away when the time comes. No hard feelings, no emotions involved. Just sex.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" He takes a few steps closer to me, his eyes narrow.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" I grunt out. I turn his own question back on himself.

""Like what?"

"Like why Red hasn't healed in the time of travelling back here, why she wasn't at the pack run? Why my injuries were kept a secret but hers...she's traipsing around the pack as if this is the norm. As if the daughter of the two most powerful alphas doesn't.." I stop myself. "Doesn't what Knox. Don't forget you are here as a guest, as a mentor to me and Jace. But you are not above our pack laws or being punished for speaking out of place."

"Punished, huh?"

"Observe and report back, that is your key task here. Remember that." He takes a step towards me, his stance very much like his father's as he reminds me of my place here. That I am not the one in charge.

I keep my distance from the alpha family for the rest of the day. Doing what I was brought here to do...observe and report back.

Posting myself at the borders, I watch the night time shift switch, keeping a close eye on the parameters in front of me. I even join the pack houses' dinner rather than attend the alpha house, it gives me the opportunity to watch the warriors and how they interact with one another. Also, it gives me space from the glare of the pack's alpha across the dinner table.

"Are you lost or something?" Beta Riley smirks as his tray of food is placed in front of me, on one of the canteen tables.

"Quite the opposite, I wanted to watch the night time switch over, see if there are any bugs in the system."

"And?"

"Seems to be flawless." I murmur to myself, using my fork to push aside part of my meal.

"It's been that way for years, but I'm always interested in change. Let me know if you have any ideas." He watches me carefully before devouring his own meal.
