Sandra Hikari Kinoshita Rinaldi -
Born on Earth from an Italo-American father and a daughter of Japanese immigrants, she lived in Italy, Japan, Brazil, and the United States as she followed her parents during their work assignments. She was 160cm tall and had an average-to-thin body build. She had to wear glasses for her nearsightedness. She likes motion pictures too much. Before she died on Earth, she was a 3rd-year undergraduate student of Environmental Sciences with a partial scholarship. Speaks five idioms, English, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and French. Her extracurricular activities included four years of singing, four years of Capoeira and two years of Aikido. Died at the age of 21 from divine intervention gone slightly wrong and was transported into another world by Tarhun. She brought with her all the gear she took to the camp, plus the trash she collected and her murderous advisor's night vision goggles.
Tenured Professor Andrews -
Teacher at the Earth Sciences Institute and advisor to Sandra, he also leads an NGO focused on environmental cleanup operations. Secretly a worshipper of a deity called "The Dark One", he used his influence to allow a group of students to do a sex-and-drugs fueled rave in a forestal reserve. The rave was actually a ritual for the Dark One. Once Sandra found evidence of the ritual, he decided to kill her after she erased the evidence but couldn't complete the deed because Tarhun killed Sandra first. His fate after the girl's death is unknown.
Theresa -
Sandra's Roommate is an easygoing, laidback, and thrill-seeking girl. She likes to indulge in her own body a little too much and wants to break Sandra out of her shell. She is not a Dark One worshipper and did not attend the rave even though she was invited because she's not into drugs. Winners don't do drugs, and Theresa is a winner even though might not be a keeper. The Keeper, Professor Andrews, did drugs. And not only the recreative type.
Joshua -
One of the 10 most coveted male human steaks in the whole student body, according to Theresa. Served raw, preferentially. She'd totally write a paper or five on that student's body. Sandra's classmate and a member of the NGO led by Professor Andrews, he went to the reserve to help with the cleanup. He was drugged by the Professor so he couldn't help Sandra. He totally would.
Ivan -
The fourth wheel. Has an exquisite sense of humor.
Tarhun -
AKA Tarhuna, Teshub, Teshup, Enli, Tesub, Taru, and several other names as any self-respecting god should have. We are going with Tarhun only. The chief of the Hattian-Akkadian-Hittite pantheon. Yes, we are committing a historical inaccuracy for the sake of literary entertainment. Bear with it.
Worshipped on Earth between 2,300 BC to 1,100 BC, He lost favor and eventually faded from the Earth's divine sphere. Claims that all thunder gods that came after him were copycats. He moved some of his believers to other worlds and nurtured them there. He dislikes the presence of other pantheons in his world. Has an enemy he calls only "The Dark One" that still influences Earth because kids are into sex-and-drugs fueled raves even to this day.
Balthazar -
Caravan master and luxury goods trader, he and his whole caravan were wiped out from an attack by two rage-apes (local designation) or "Silverback Kongs" (as Sandra named them).
Penny-Gu "Penny" (in English) "Honey Cake" (in Akkadian)
One of the draft horses pulling Balthazar's wagons. This caramel mare dislikes pulling loads very much, likes running free very much. She bonded with Sandra once the human rescued her from a bramble thicket the mare ran into and snagged the harnesses attached to her.
Nanna the Caravanserai Witch (It means "moon" in modern Akkadian) -
An elderly witch that still has too much spring on her legs. Age unknown. Had an ongoing feud with some thug gang but since she could cast spells and make potions and they couldn't, she had the upper hand. People are afraid of curses so she was treated with the utmost respect. Met Sandra while gathering herbs outside town and after sensing the girl's absurd levels of magical power, decided to take Sandra under her wing. After her tent was destroyed, she decided to move in with Sandra and liked the change very much. She never said she was a good person.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"Fancytoga" Hama-Tula (the nickname given by Sandra) -
One of the merchant lords of the town. Had fingers in too many pies and several of them spoiled. Owes debts that are almost as much as his net worth. Had minor magical powers and could sense the magic talent of people, which gave him an edge in slave trading. Met Sandra at the caravanserai and decided that the girl would be his golden ticket out of debt once he sold her to Prince Marduk-Sapik-Ziarat of a neighbor kingdom. Focused and relentless once set on a path, he spared no expenses to try and get the girl. Eventually cornered and taken to a judicial trial by water, he was tossed into the river and eaten by some tentacle monster that found a spot where tasty people suddenly appeared sometimes. The tentacle monster is definitely not an evolved mimic.
Arwia the (former) barmaid -
Seventeen-years old and Eldest daughter of six. She lost her mother ten years ago and helped her father raise her siblings on her own. Homeschooled by her mother, yearned for a better life but her father accrued too much debt from his gambling addiction and had to sell her into slavery. She was bought by an innkeeper two years ago and worked at the inn. She dislikes and resents her master, father, and workplace very much. Met Sandra when she slept one night there and was subsequently bought by Sandra to help raise some kids.
Prince Marduk-Sapik-Ziarat -
The crown prince of a neighboring kingdom. Is building a harem of exotic beauties and is paying the woman's weight in gold to whoever brings him an adequate one.
Aristunn -
Hama-Tula's eunuch bodyguard. After all of his master's possessions including himself went to Sandra and witnessing the divine talents and kindness of the girl, he decided to devote his life to protect her. Sometimes used as a cameraman for Sandra's videoblogs. He feels honored to be allowed to handle the divine artifact called "GoPro".
Captain Brandon Al-Amir (Sometimes typo'ed by the Author as Brendan) - That's amateur writing for you. No reviewers or editors cause this kind of inaccuracy.
Guard captain of the town. Son of refugees and not form the Hittite-Akkadian ethnical group. Blonde, well-built, handsome, totally hot 10/10 would date him, according to Sandra. Has a soft spot for her but suspects that she'd be too high-maintenance. Is a traditionalist and because of that keeps his distance from that weird girl that is turning the town's order upside down. Owes some sort of life debt to Samus the blacksmith and agreed to start training Sandra in combat techniques.
Master blacksmith Albert Samus -
A sorcerer by birth and blacksmith by trade. He came to town in one of the several refugee waves. One of the two owners of the town's largest smithy workshop and a close friend of Nanna the Witch. Met Sandra for the first time when Nanna came to him to ask for help rescuing some girl from the evil clutches of Hama-Tula. After seeing the girl's power over metal, he invited her to discuss a trade partnership to exploit her power as a cheaper source of metal. He entered a trade agreement with her when she showed him she could extract iron from slag.
The Magistrate -
Official judge and ruler of the courthouse, he forsook his name upon taking the position. He has a dislike for people that come back alive from his trials because it means he has little power over them. When informed that a monster took residence in his favorite trial spot and was interfering with the fairness of the trial by throwing people bound to rocks into a river, he gave Sandra permission to kill the monster if she brings back proof. Regretted immediately when he learned she can record videos.
Banunu -
The first wife of Hama-Tula. A bitter and vengeful woman and mother of five, she didn't like it when Hama-Tula took a slave as his second wife and was currently trying to turn the cook girl of all people into the third wife. She kept a bottle of poisoned wine hidden in the cellar for when she was done with her husband - when he cleared his debts, that is - but after her husband died she decided to use it to kill Sandra instead. It didn't work because of her divine boons. She sold her children to Sandra to remove them from the succession line and therefore shield them from debt collectors. She fled town with the second wife to avoid losing her dowry and getting enslaved because of the debt.
Rubati -
Second wife of Hama-Tula. She was a slave that got impregnated by her master and was raised to the position of wife. Had no dowry and was forced to take the same deal as Banunu. She sold her children and fled. It is unknown if the two are still together or if Banunu wouldn't just settle old grudges.
Belle-Sunu (or "just Belle because it means beautiful") -
Fourteen years old. Slaveborn (daughter of slaves) working in the house of Hama-Tula, this freckled and lovely girl (as perceived by Sandra) worked as a cook during the day and prospective third wife in the night. Shy and reserved, she is still coming to terms at receiving true affection from her mistress without any strings attached. Like having to provide night services at such a tender age.
Rimush-
Thirteen years old. The firstborn son of Hama-Tula with Banunu. Knows how to read, write and do basic math operations. Sold to Sandra to cut himself off from Hama-Tula's succession line and shield him from the debt.
Anaya -
Eight years old. Daughter of Hama-Tula and Rubati. Like any child her age should, she misses her parents very much. She barely understands what happened but is determined to follow her older brother's lead.
Merchant lord Abil-Kisu -
The most powerful merchant in town. He has fingers in several pies but tries to leave room for the others. Respected by fairness in his deals. Met Sandra in a party thrown to celebrate the birth of his firstborn son. He disliked Hama-Tula underhanded methods and the other merchants' dishonorable practices. He decided to keep a closer eye on Sandra to see if she didn't take over the other merchants by force.
Priest Bero-Mabii -
High priest of Tarhun. Noticed the abnormal amount of lightning bolts falling on otherwise clear, dry, and warm weather the last few days and after investigating it, connected them to the presence of the foreigner girl, Sandra. After evaluating Sandra at the party, he decided that she is really sent by Tarhun and didn't push the issue further. He also wants to keep a closer eye on her to see if she really is a divine envoy or a ploy.
Master goldsmith Lu-Ninurta -
This old goldsmith should be retired if retirement was already invented. He was impressed by Sandra's gold-and-ruby choker and that encounter rekindled his passion for crafting jewelry.
Master blacksmith Aran -
Ten years younger and partner to Samus. He likes to try new things and thinks the art of blacksmithing is stagnated. He is right.
Tiazi -
Wife of the innkeeper and friends with Nanna. She dislikes Arwia because no woman likes to share their husbands. Tries to keep her husband in a tight leash but that's hard to do in that society. Didn't bat an eyelid to agree into selling Arwia to Sandra, she just wanted to squeeze money from the rich girl. After all, that gold-and-emerald choker should be worth at least a few gold minas.
