Chapter 6: Death's Forgetfulness

Time-skip 1 month

We have been training like the first day for the entire month. I’ve learned a bit more about my teachers this month. Miss Honey turns out to be incredibly nice, although a boring person, but from then on, I was very participative in class, asking questions every so often, she has even joined us for lunch every now and then. Clay ended up being fine, he didn’t even wake up the next day, but after that, he woke up fine he wanted to sleep longer, but he wasn’t allowed to. Yesterday Clay managed to finish the run for the entire hour without fainting, that happened a minute after. Coach noticed that Grim and I were starting to find the run easy so he decided to give us rings that increased our gravity by 1%. He says that we can increase the amount with a basic spell. I asked Mafala to teach me how to release my mana as an attack, he told me that I needed to create something like a mana explosion to propel the mana. I had no idea how to do that so I went to Grim. Grim told me to think of it like an accelerator, to take the mana and turn it into a small ball then to take some more mana to create spinning circles inside my body to launch the mana. “Like Hot Wheels” I asked.“Exactly” he said. I tried it with my finger and the mana shot out like a bullet. and I heard a ding.

You have made a new skill:

Mana Bullet

Taking a small amount of mana and launching it at high speeds allows for immense damage. By compressing the mana, the bullets can deal more damage.

1-10 mana

“I can make skills!” I shouted.

“Yeah” Says Grim “I didn’t want you to forget about any skills you have and I know you like videogames, so I chose a world where skills are also recorded by the gods of the world. I basically chose the world most like a videogame for you.” After this incident, I started practicing magic in my free time, just controlling it in my body, or just around the body, but I never really expelled that much mana.

Today was a special day. We get to chose our first weapons! “Ok George, Grim, Clay, This is the armory. Today you get to chose your first weapon. I recommend the one handed sword, it is a great weapon for beginners. Now go and find your weapon.”

After a LOT of consideration I chose the weapon Coach Green suggested. Clay chose a giant war hammer, which was basically a giant slab of metal. Grim chose a double bladed scythe, that apparently can be split into two scythes.

When we came out Green looked at each of us and said. “George, good choice, a one handed sword will suit your advanced magic skills so you can still cast magic. Clay, a war hammer with your strength this is a great choice. Grim….” He paused for a while. “Do you know what that weapon is?” He asked

“Yes, a double bladed scythe, commonly associated with the grim reaper. This means that it must be a powerful weapon because why else would the grim reaper use it. Although it is hard to use, this weapon allows for variable fighting styles and surprise attacks.”

“That’s…. Correct. I see you put a lot of thought into your weapon. Ok, now, I will grab each of the book of how to not hurt yourself with your weapon read the book, then you should generate the mastery skill for your weapon.”

I got my book, it seemed like a nice afternoon read for me. Clay’s seemed like it was maybe 10 pages. Grim’s was…………. Several books the size of dictionaries! His face dropped.

“Sir, can I please just spar against you to learn the skill.” Grim asked hopefully.

“Sure, but you MUST use a wooden weapon. Don’t want you to hurt yourself”

“Ok sir.” Grim replied

They went to the training field and got their weapons. Coach did a fancy display with the type of sword he gave me. Grim tried to do the same first spinning it in his hands like a windmill, then starting to move it around his body and…. he hit his head. Coach started cracking up. “Grim, I thought that you may have been some kind of prodigy with that weapon, but you’re a total ameature!” He said between his laughs. “Are you going to read the book now or do I have to pulverise you first.”

“I’ll read the book” Grim said dejectedly going to pick up his books.

I walked over to Grim and whispered. “You seemed so confident that you knew how to use it, was that a bluff?”

“I know how to use it, kind of, I just sealed all of my knowledge of magic and weapons, so we could be on the same playing field in this world.” He said out loud. Then remembering something, he went into a whisper.“Also on the note of my sealed abilities, you remember my god mode right, well I can’t go into that at will. I can only get like that if you get into danger by accident. If you go charging against a dragon, I can’t do anything. But if you were kidnapped or someone attempts to assassinate you, I can kill them immediately.”

Grim gave me a shocking truth, I can’t rely on him to lead me through every battle, I really need to train if I want to do something amazing.

I went back to reading my manual with newfound conviction!
