We walked back to the classroom expecting another history class but we were pleasantly surprised.
“Yay, gym.” I shouted as we went outside.
“I don’t think I could have taken another minute of history.” Grim said to Clay.
“Same, I wonder what we are going to do” Clay responded
“I hope it’s dodgeball! I love dodgeball!” I shouted.
“Welcome maggots” Someone shouted “Oh wait you’re only one, hmmmm.” he said Calmly “Welcome Babies!”
“Yeah that’s not better” Grim said.
“Whatever, show me your status plates babies.” He stopped being so angry and is now just enthusiastic.
“Shouldn’t you tell us your name before asking that?”
“Doesn’t matter what a baby thinks, but i’m coach Green!”
We showed him our plates. I finally got a good look at the man? He was very short, like only 5 feet tall, he had short curly brown hair. He was wearing a black shirt that showed off his biceps, and he had a pair of the ridiculously short shorts that only runners wear . Most surprisingly, he didn’t freak out when he saw Grim’s status plate, I wonder why?
“Ok you babies really do need to train. Especially you Clay, you’ve relied on that pesky racial trait of yours for far too long! Time for some special training on the track I made!” He grinned. The track he made was basically in the shape of nascar races made out of something like rubber.
“What’s Clay’s racial trait?” I ask confused
“Earth elementals don't lose stamina or health if they are on solid ground, like dirt or uncut stone. Wood, processed metals, air, anything that is not directly earth, doesn’t restore my stamina or health.” Clay replied
“That’s a cheat!” I shouted.
“No, to compensate, they have little natural stamina and health regeneration.” Grim replies.
“Yes Baby!” Coach Green yelled “So, I have prepared a special track for you three to run on.”
“I don’t want to run!” I protested “I wanna play dodgeball”
“Ok Baby!” Coach said kindly “You can dodge my fireballs while you run the track! You get the best of both worlds!” He shouted proudly.
“WHY GEORGE!” Grim and Clay yelled.
“Don’t answer them, just start running!” He yelled as he made a fireball in my hand
I took off running and looked back and saw an area of burnt grass at the place I once was. Clay and Grim were catching up to me. When they caught up as a group Coach shot a fireball at us. We barely dodged. I was still curious.
“Why didn’t Coach freak when he saw your status plate with the god mode thing?” I whispered to Grim.
“Oh I can make that appear and disappear at will.” he whispered back.
Another fireball came out of nowhere.
“Jump” I shouted. We all jumped and avoided the fireball.
This continued for 10 minutes when Clay suddenly collapsed.
“Clay!” I shouted. I ran back to clay to check on him. His chest was still moving, I sighed in relief. Clay looked adorable even knocked out. Coach showed up too.
“Don’t worry Baby.” He said gently “He’s fine, just exhausted, he used up all of his stamina and more trying to keep up with you two. This is exactly what he should have done, otherwise he won’t get stronger.” he said with compassion. “You two, go back to the classroom, I’ll take care of this one, I’d take him and put him on the ground so he would wake up, but he needs to restore it by himself, so we have to let him sleep.”
“Okay” I replied grabbing Grim with my right hand dragging him back to the classroom. When we returned to the classroom, there was demihuman puppy in the classroom sitting at the teacher desk. He had two little grey dog ears on his head with grey hair and a short fluffy grey tail about half a foot long. He has sharp red eyes that pierced through you. With just wearing pants, leaving his doggy belly exposed, his half dog adorableness is multiplied tenfold!
“Hey you shouldn’t be sitting at the teachers desk.” I stated.
“You’re looking at em!” He stated “I’m Mafala your magic instructor. And, contrary to my appearances, I’m actually over 100 years old.”
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
“What! You don’t look a day over three” I shouted.
“Flattery doesn’t work on me” He stated.
“He’s not wrong, you look like a little kid like us.” Grim retorted.
“Seriously no-one ever thinks of me as an adult!” He whined.
“It’s ok Mr. Mafala sempai!” I said kindly. I used every kind of formal word I knew.
“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!” He said grabbing me in a hug. Then he took a deep breath. “Ok students, what are your names?”
“I’m George” I say.
“Grim” Grim says.
“Ok ready for magic lessons!” Mafala said excitedly.
“Yeah!” I shouted.
“Ok, first things first, you need to find your mana, now with a normal teacher, this will take some time, but I am different. I discovered a way to help students find their mana in a matter of seconds. Just to explain, I’m going to take my mana and push it into your mana, and move it around your body, this should allow you to find your mana.”
“Ok Mr. Mafala sempai!” I walked over to Mafala, turned around, and closed my eyes. He put his small hands on my back and I felt something flow through my body.
“To tell if you found your mana, try and push some mana through your hand and make a ball.” Mafala says quietly.
I took the feeling and tried to use my hands to push the stuff to my hand, but it didn’t work.
“George, just imagine the mana moving and it will happen” Grim said helpfully.
“Ok” I said. ‘Easier said than done though’ i thought to myself. I tried doing what Grim said. Aww, nothing’s happening. Wait no a little bit of mana started to flow to my hand. I’ve got to try harder. After what felt like an eternity, I finally had enough mana for me to think i will be able to release it easily. I tried making a tiny ball, but the mana disappeared the moment it left my body. So I’m trying a larger ball. I released all of the mana at once and tried to release mana from my fingers to make a mana net. I opened my eyes it worked the blue ball stayed in my hand. I’m not sure what surprised me more. That I managed to do it or the expression Mafala had. His mouth was wide open.
“George, how did you expel so much mana at once and keep it from shooting.” He asked loudly.
“I just willed the mana to my hand, I tried to make a smaller one, but I couldn’t control it and it just dispersed into the air. So I spent time gathering my mana, and before I released it, i released mana from my fingers to make a net to catch the mana I expelled.” I said nervously. “Did I do something wrong?”
“No, no no!” Mafala shouted. “I’m just surprised how talented you are! To be able to release mana from your fingers takes lots of practice, and releasing mana from multiple places simultaneously takes even more. Then the fact that you were creative enough to realize all of this on your own. Finally your learning speed is astronomical, you made that ball of mana in only 10 minutes and with such a creative means without any advanced knowledge on magic and mana control!”
“Yipee!” I shouted and started running around.
“George why are you running?” Mafala asks
“I’ve never been good at anything before so thank you so much.” I gave Mafala a big hug.
“Ok your welcome. Grim would you like to try and….WHAT!” Grim had in his hands a mana ball identical to mine.
“I learned to do it while you were helping George.”
“What are you two!” Malfala asks “And you found your mana all on your own!”
“Yeah, it was easy, when I first listened to music I felt a warm sensation through my body and I played around with it a bit in secret.”
“You two are monsters!” Mafala says. “Well you two finished everything I had planned for this week, I was going to teach you about creativity and its uses in magic, but you two I don’t think need it.”
