Chapter 7: ~Guild is burning down, burning down, burning down~

The group has successful arrived at the doors of the Adventure Guild.

Once inside, everyone in the building stopped what they were doing and analyzed them.

Winged demon carrying a girl in each arm and an gorgeous elf by his side, and the girls were slaves.

What other feelings than envy overwhelming inside of each hot blooded man.

Kei looks around the whole building. It was fairly large to be in such a normal town. There was a second floor, a little pub with large tables and chairs on the right side, a large board with all kinds of quest on the left, and a row of receptionists and desks at the back.

It looked like your typical adventurer guild and the adventurers were mostly humans with few elves, dwarves, and beastmen mixed in. Some magic users were wearing robes, carrying tomes and staves. Some warriors wore flashy armors and some bare chested to show their abs towards the other girls. There was one in a golden armor set with three girls around him.

Are they his party members or groupies?

Cal said being adventurer was a job that even demons can get a little respect but there was no one. Not a single demon among them. Were they on a quest? Was there some undisclosed rule to forbid demons from being an adventurer? Or they met an unfortunate end at someone's hands?

Welp, no use thinking about things. Get in and get out.

Kei strolled down to one of the receptionist who was free. The female adventurers were staring daggers at him for bringing female slaves here. It shows them that Kei did not see women as his equal. Even though he didn't mistreat them and slavery was legal in many countries.

Females adventurers must be tough to be in this line of business. I admired that but please stop with those eyes. I'm not the kind of guy you think I am.

Kei approached the free receptionist who looks like a woman in her 20s. Kei was waiting for her to notice him but she was looking down at blank pieces of paper on her desk.

"Hello... There is someone in front of you."

She was still ignoring him and chuckles can be heard around the building.

Elen was tapping her foot and was getting impatient. She wants to get out of here and away from these disgusting stares. Especially from the other elves for entire different reason. She didn't want to be pitied by them because they were members of the same race. Elves were an expensive commodity because the Alliance put high priority on limiting and releasing elven slaves. Especially from unjust means like kidnapping, coercion, or trickery. Slave business had been heavily regulated in general since the formation of the Alliance. That's why elven slaves were so rare, at least in the public and open operations. So, being seen as a slave was demeaning for the proud elven race.

*BAM*

Elen slammed down her hands on the desk which scared the the receptionist.

"Hey lady! My master wants to be an adventurer! Get the paper work! You're wasting his time!"

"Bwaahahahaahaha!"

The whole building shook with roaring laughter.

"That demon want to be an adventurer? Hahaha!" The golden man laughed.

Bridget and Polin awoken from their nap and saw that things wer enot going well.

The golden man approached closer with his groupies behind.

"Do even have the right to be an adventurer? Do you what it means to be adventurer? You do not have the qualifications!"

His groupies laughed with everyone else.

"Isn't there no race barrier for being one?" Kei asked.

"Ha! Just because you can be one, doesn't mean you should be one! Listen, this is dangerous work. You should get out while you're ahead. Right everyone!"

Everyone expressed their agreement with vigor like it's a sporting event.

I see now. The guild just ignores the demons without showing discrimination or hostility and let the adventurers to jeer at them to lose their confidence to being one. First the general public and now the Adventure Guild. What the hell.

The guild is clearly not gonna give me the time and day. I don't care if I get it or not. The checkpoints will be a hassle but there other ways to get in. Being an adventurer sounded cool but I have to go to a more demon friendly place.

Kei just shrugged his shoulder and decided to leave. Elen and the other girls were irritated by how the golden man was acting grandiose, even more so in leaving in a disgraceful manner.

On the way, Elen's arm was grabbed by the golden man.

"Woah there. Hey elf if you want, I can free you from that disgusting demon. I'm sure he been treating you awful. Just one word from you and I can free you."

HIs groupies were shock and stared daggers at her for trying to seduce him.

"Harold! Just leave her alone. She is probably already tainted by that demon."

"Yeah! Yeah! You do not have to do something nice!"

His groupies were protesting against this but it did not deter him. Elen had the apperance of a golden angel. With her at his side they would be like a golden couple. He can already see it, they are a perfect match under the heavens.

Elen frowned. What is this fool thinking? Master is annoying but this guy is insufferable.

"Please let go. You cannot do anything about it and I don't think you can help with my problems."

Even if this guy managed to kill Kei, which make the slave contract nullified upon the death of the master. What would she do then? She needed money to get back home and some protection. This Harold had no pure intentions at all. What happens when she gets captured and sold off again? Kei was her most optimal chance to achieve her goals even if she had to be his sex slave. Better than the unknown and the hard, rocky path. People were not going to be generous because you need help. At least Kei was forthright and doesn't hide anything, as far as she knows.

But Harold was still not letting this go.

"I see that you're afraid of this demon. Is he that strong? Don't worry, we adventurers are not weak! How about all you brave adventurers! Would you let this poor maiden suffer under that demon!"

The adventurers was thrilled and unsheathed their weapons as a show of dominance. The guild staff was cheering them on.

The guild girl was happy that this was going to be resolved but sadly the slave girls will also be involved. The guild girl took a lot closer on Kei's face, gray skin, silver eyes, and white hair. Something finally clicked in a head, they were the chracteristics of the man in the wanted poster and quest! The demon who slaughted the guards and adventurers.

Harold completely ignores the girls that Kei was holding because he didn't care about them. The other adventurers can care less too, the elf was more appealing than a mix-breed and crippled hag.

"I said let go! You don't understand anything!"

Elen slapped Harold hard but he did not flinched. Elen was considered strong even among the veterans, but she was more of a mage than a fighter.

Harold and his groupies were pissed.

"You skank! How there you hit him even though he was trying to help!" Screamed by one of the girls.

"I didn't ask for help! So let go!" Elen yelled back.

"I tried to free you and this how you repay me!" said Harold.

The guild girl was starting to be fearful. She yelled out, "Stop this instance!"

Kei was about to go on the offensive before the guild girl acted hysterical. Harold loosen his grip on Elen and stared back at the guild girl. "Helen, why are you intervening. I need to teach these people a lesson!"

"Enough!" Helen slammed her hands on the desk. "I think we all have our fun for the day." She turned to stare at Kei and he gave a quizzical look.

Why the sudden change?

Kei wasn't the only one who thought that Helen's change of attitude. Kei looked around at the other adventurer's reaction and came upon a the bulletin board with various quests and news on it. And there was a poster of Kei's likeness. Kei slowly moved towards the board and Elen pulled her arm from Harold's grip and walked behind Kei.

People moved out of Kei's way and once Kei stood before the poster, he asked Elen, "What does that say?"

Elen moved to Kei's side and eyes widen. "You're a wanted man." Elen ripped the poster from the board and spoke out Kei's crimes. The adventurers were passive after the Helen forbade them to act rashly. After listening to Elen, they understood why. The demon was a criminal of high caliber.

"That's bad isn't it?" Polin questioned.

Kei rebutted Polin with what happened at the gate. She nodded in understanding and let the matter be. "Elen, hold on to that poster. I want to keep it as a memorabilia."

I got my own wanted poster. The drawing on my face may need some work, but not bad at all.

"You..." Harold pulled his sword. Every adventurer in the building lost their smug and tensed up.

"Why is everyone so quiet all of a certain? I thought everyone is going to teach me a lesson!" Kei acted first and Kei's shadow stretched towards Harold. It jumped and wrapped around Harold's body like tendrils. Then does shadow-like tendrils formed spikes out of them, piercing throughout Harold's body!

Arm, legs, chest, neck, and even the through his eyes. Those spikes are thin like needles and they pierced through him even his golden armor.

"Elen get closer to me. I think I'm going to let my frustration out a bit. Little wifey, closed your eyes and ears. This is going to be very, very ugly."

The whole building was silenced and then the groupies screamed, "AAAHHH! Haroooold!"

Kei used ice magic to create an ice wall to seal the doors. Then Kei's shadow started to spread everywhere and tentacles were coming out, trying to capture everyone.

Mages shot fireballs towards Kei but the tentacles smack them into nothingness.

Then Kie shot back a small, shade blue fireball towards them.

Despite its size, it leaves a blazing, powerful explosion. The mages were blown into pieces and blue flames are spreading everywhere. The fire was unnatural. It was so hot like hell and it was consuming everything so fast like a wildfire.

The tentacles has captured Helen that ignored Kei.

"Hey, miss receptionist. Are you regretting it now?"

The receptionist was crying and peeing herself. She was scare witless, seeing him as a true demon, in both body and soul.

"Wait, wait, wait! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! Please forgive me! I didn't mean it! I was told to do so! I SWEAR IT!"

"You know why I let you speak?"

The receptionist can't answer. She was scared of the answer.

"BECAUSE I RELISHED IN PEOPLE BEGGING! NOTHING BUT BULLSHIT COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH! ONLY MAKE YOUR  DEATH SWEETER!"

"No no no no no! Please wait! Forgive!"

Then tentacles twisted her limbs and continue twisting it, like trying to squeeze all the water out from a towel.

"KYAAAAHHHHHHH!"

The one time she has to ignore a demon's request to be an adventurer, it has to be this one.

She feels that he was abnormal but choose to ignore her feelings. It was an everyday occurence to ignore them and then verbally bully them to leave the Adventure Guild. It was a normal day. But why this one? Why today? Why this guild? The word 'why' keep repeating in her head. But it was no use, she was dead.

The same thing that happened to the receptionist happens to all the others who are caught by the tentacles.

The only sound that was left was the roaring fire.

Elen was mortified. She expected a fight, not a massacre. Harold was as strong or stronger than her. Elen turned her head to see Kei's face and he was just smiling and his eyes are smiling as well.

"Welp, time to go."

Kei ignored the stunned Elen and got close to her.

Kei and the others were gobbled up by a mass of darkness, sinking into the floor. They were gone.

----------------------------------------

The whole building was filled with corpses and those coprses were consumed by the flames, leaving only ashes. The whole town can see the smoke rising from the center.

Everyone was in a panic. First the incident at the gate and then the Adventure Guild burning down.

What the hell was happening? Was it an attack? A murder spree? It was all people can think about.

But the worse was yet to come.
