Hey guys!
Big big news of a big, big announcement variety incoming.
As you probably already know, we are zeroing in on the end of Deadworld Isekai three, meaning that, since July, I’ve written an entire trilogy. We are stoked about it and both Dotblue and I really like how the book ends, and we are glad we could keep up a breakneck release schedule the entire time.
That intense writing schedule came with a lot of good, but it also came with certain risks. The biggest one, for me, was that at some point I’d fall into a rut, keep writing anyway, and you’d get a lot of “more of the same” type chapters. You see that with long-standing series sometimes, where the main character gets strong enough that they don’t have real risk, and every chapter ends up being “well, I guess he’s a little stronger now, and this skill is level 5 instead of level 4.”
It’s vitally, vitally important that you keep reading after this next bit: Deadworld is going on a writing break. I’m going to let it sit and stew for a while, so book 4 is as significant plot-wise as books 1-3 were.
In the meantime, I’m still a writer, and I still have ideas popping up at all times. And since I’m realistically not going to stop writing, that means something huge:
We are dropping a new novel.
The new book is called How To Survive at the End of The World, and follows a character who time-skips straight into the imminent demise of the entire planet and who, once there, has to either stay the boring, safe course of grinding rats and surviving, or go big against overwhelming force, kick the ass of an entire apocalypse, and save the day.
If I can say so myself, it’s already rad. I’ve learned a lot about writing with Deadworld, and this novel is already cranking along in a fun way, even though we aren’t out of the initial setting-up-the-story chapters yet. When I went into the new project, I did the author thing where I was a bit worried my second book would end up not-as-good as my first one. But having reread a bit of it, I’m now pretty confident that if you liked Deadworld, you will like or love this. It’s good.
Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
Now, one sad truth about pretty-good-or-great novels is this: Some of them just don’t get a foothold. Royal Road is structured in such a way that novels do better if they get momentum sooner rather than later. With Deadworld, we were learning how Royal Road works from scratch, which meant we squandered a lot of that initial opportunity to get big, get subs, and destroy the entire world with writing. We did pretty good anyway, but we can (with your help) do better.
Here’s where you come in:
+ Go check out the story. Just reading it helps, and we're pretty confident you will dig it. If not, no worries - not everything is for everyone. You do you, no pressure.
+ If you like it, drop us a follow. Even if follows aren’t how you keep track of your novels, clicking that button means our follower count goes up, and significant follows at the beginning are, we think, the biggest factor in making it to front page, getting more eyes on the novel, and breaking out in a big way.
+ If you really like it, rate it. Having a few positive reviews in the can means a lot in terms of how many people Royal Road shows the novel to. Ratings are good, and reviews are better, but we would be overjoyed to get either, especially on day one. A few high-star reviews make a huge difference here.
If you absolutely love it, talk about us other places. Most traffic comes through Royal Road, sure, but if you're really, really enthusiastic about our projects, adding buzz in other types of forums helps us a lot as well. We don’t expect everyone to do this; not everyone enjoys the stuff they read that way. But if you find we deserve it, and you're the kind of person who talks up things they are reading, that’s something we really, really appreciate.
For our part, we are going to find three super-fans who show enthusiasm in some way - whether that’s through art submissions, talking about us elsewhere, or any other way - and figure out a way to award them lifetime patreon-type advance access to anything I write and Dotblue edits (including but not limited to Deadworld, How to Survive at the End of the World, and more). Our way of saying thank you to all the readers who have helped us get this far.
Again, you can find the new novel below. We hope you love it, and as always, we want to stress how much we appreciate each and every one of you. We love y’all.
Thank you,
RC
