hitching a ride

Beck continued to tell the story of how he encountered the fog, and the mysterious night who appeared to be made of black smoke. As he came to the end of his story, he showed the two men the scar that streaked across his back. “...And that is why I must get to the capital; the guard needs to be warned and also why I need to get as far to the east as I possibly can” Beck finished. “Well, that's a heck of a tale you’ve got there and a mighty scar to speak for it, I hope you make it to the capital” the barge man said “If you need, I can get you on a boat, that will surely help on your way to the capital” the port master said “that would be amazing, if you can I need passage for two people downstream toward the hunters lodge, me and my cousin will hop off about halfway down and continue to mighty oak along the main road” Beck replied “Well then, you go get your stuff the you and your cousin can come back and meet me here, I should have a boat ready for you by the time you return” Beck nodded and left to go grab his things and tell Evie he had found them a ride.

When he returned to the inn, he found Evie waiting for him at a table in the corner of the downstairs tavern, a small bowl of fresh bread was placed in the center, he walked over and sat down, tearing into one of the warm loaves. After the early wake and long walk to the edge of town Beck was ravenous and after finishing off a second loaf, he finally paused to talk to his cousin.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“I was out early this morning, as you know, I couldn't get any sleep, so I decided to go for a walk... I did intend to get back earlier than I did but I was held back” Beck summarized

Evie wasn't very impressed with his story but stayed silent, something told her that he hadn't finished yet.

“A ship came through the canal riddled with arrows and listing heavily, I was called aboard where I helped them till, they reached the keep and I managed to get a one-on-one talk with the port master, he said that he is going to secure us a ride down stream to get us closer to the capital” Beck finished

“Well, I guess that's a worthy reason for you disappearing in the early hours of the day” Evie replied with a smirk.

The two headed back upstairs and packed their merge supplies for the journey downstream. As they exited the lobby, they made sure to thank the inn keeper before stepping out into the bustling morning hours of the barrel's keep street market.
