Entering and breaking

Beck Bracken keenly observed his contraption as the small wooden figure crawled across his desk. The little bug had been the toil of his past hour and was a true work of artistic engineering. Many tiny coils and gears inside the body of the bug gave it the ability to be wound up by a small crank then be put down to slowly shuffle away on its stumpy wooden legs. As he watched the bug came to a stop as its coil wound down and he reached down to pick as he picked it up its head popped off with a twang and rolled under the table, “darn” he muttered as he leaned forward in his seat.

As he reached under his desk to retrieve the bit, the door to his room flew open on its hinges with a crash. Beck jumped in his seat and his head flew up into the table with a loud Clunk! “OWWW, I thought I told you to knock” Beck yelled rubbing his bruised skull, “oh sorry” Evie replied a little sheepishly “it's just I had something super important to tell you,” Beck sighed, his very boisterous cousin Evie could be immensely annoying at times. She was already thirteen but acted like a hyperactive six-year-old whenever she had anything she deemed exciting to tell Beck.

Evie's family lived next door to the Brackens which lead to a very close relationship between Beck and his excitable cousin, they were practically siblings. “What is it then?” Beck asked a tad resentfully. “Well, umm... oh yeah, dad and uncle jasper just finished their latest project and they're wondering if you want to come check it out, and trust me you really ought to come take a look”

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

The Brackens were a family of carpenters and owned a small workshop that lay below their home, the made all kinds of things like chairs, tables, toys and even sometimes a rolling cart. All the things made by the Brackens and the other folk of Crafton were sent all around Everwood and sometimes even to other countries.

“Oh, alright then, go tell them I'll be down in a minute,” he replied with a groan “and for the love of the great mother, please knock next time you want to tell me something.”

“Oke doke” Evie replied with a grin Evie then turned and left the room slamming the door back into its frame again just as loud as it had been opened only moments prior. Beck again let out a sigh as he turned back to his contraption. More carefully this time Beck reached back under his desk, both eyes locked on his bedroom door; to grab the head of the bug, it was a wonder how the rest of the toy managed to stay in one piece after impact of becks surprised jump. Beck screwed the head back on the bug then grabbed the crank and headed downstairs to the workshop.
