Chapter I: Prince of Darkness
“GAH!” gasped Kaliam as he appeared in the atmosphere of Earth; nothing protected him other than the tattered and heavy pitch-black armor he wore. He fell unconscious as he tumbled towards the sleeping planet. He started to burn up, forcing him to look like a shooting star to the curious eyes below. Kaliam slammed hard into the asphalt of a school parking lot, sending a wave of burning embers and concrete across the ground.
He sat in the center of a massive crater created by his impact. The parking lot and anything around it was decimated, demolished, smashed into bits scattered. Kaliam regained consciousness and felt someone nearby. He slowly opened his eyes and saw a young girl looking down at him, cautiously keeping her distance.
The girl opened her mouth and spoke: “Who are you?” She held a sharp stick and pointed it swiftly towards him. “A-and how did you fall from the sky and still live!” She said astonished.
Kaliam chuckled lightly but then winced. A sharp pain jolted through him as he realized his sword had penetrated his side. A puddle of blood began to form beneath him. Fighting against the pain, Kaliam gripped the hilt of the blade and attempted to remove the sword.
The girl watched from the lip of the crater as he attempted to pull the sword out of himself. “Wait!” she yelled and slid down to stop him from further harming himself. “Leave me alone, girl! I did not ask for your help!” He interjected hoarsely as he waved her away rudely.
“Well excuse me for being so helpful!” She snapped. She forcefully grabbed his arm, stopping him from trying to pull out the sword. “What now? Want me to let you die all alone here in this crater?” She exclaimed as she crossed her arms in frustration.
Kaliam stared up at her. His dark purple eyes pierced hers. He grumbled something inaudible to the girl.
“I’m sorry. What did you say?” The girl asked teasingly. She tried to drag him out of the massive crater which had begun caving in on itself.
“I said fine. I will let you help me.” Kaliam sighed. Blood dripped from Kaliam’s side as the girl hauled him out of the crater and towards her house. “So, what is your name, girl?” He asked hesitantly.
“My name is Allie!” she replied enthusiastically. “I reckon you have a name…?” She examined Kaliam’s outfit. “Soldier boy? Is that your name?”
She smirked as Kaliam’s cheeks turned red.
“W-what! I am not a soldier bo- “
Kaliam winced in pain as he reached the limit of movement he could take. He went into a low whisper “I am Kaliam, you can just call me Kal since you already make fun of me.” Kaliam looked away from Allie, defeated.
Kaliam passed out from blood loss as Allie began to drag him out of the crumbling crater. It took her most of the night just to get him out from under the crater. She sat next to him after she heaved him out of the crater. She noticed how innocent he looked when he wasn’t awake.
She managed to grab him by his pits and drag him across the street, to her apartment complex. It is a small complex with only a few
floors.

Allie dragged Kaliam into the elevator and hit floor 3 as she mumbles to herself “Why is he so heavy…?” They went up until they reached the third floor. The elevator doors slid open and she fumbled around with his body slowly making her way to her apartment.
Allie made it to her apartment and unlocked the door and dragged his unconscious body inside. Her apartment was only meant to house one person, so she only has one bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a small living room.
She lifted Kaliam up and set him down onto her bed. “Okay, so what needs to be done here?” she questioned herself as she took rubbing alcohol and poured it on the wound as she slowly took out his sword.
The sword, however, was too heavy for her to hold alone and dropped it on the floor making a loud thud noise. “My neighbors are gonna hate me…” she exclaimed under her breath briskly as she then pressed down on the wound with a small towel.
Allie, then, slowly took off all his armor piece by piece dropping them slowly on the ground. All of the pieces dropped heavily and made loud thuds on the floor as she did so. She did this until he was only in his undergarments.
She gasped as Kaliam’s body was scarred almost everywhere. One scar, in particular, seemed to catch Allie’s eye as it was deep in his skin and spanned from his right shoulder to his lower left breast.
Allie quickly grabbed the stitching kit and went to work on sewing his wound back together. Before she could even touch the wound however the wound had already sealed up, leaving a scar.
“How?” She questioned as she sat on the edge of the bed staring at the scar that had just sewn itself up.
Allie got up and left Kaliam in the bedroom. She put water in a kettle and turned the stove on. She, then, poured the hot water into two mugs with herbal tea bags inside. She watched the bedroom door, hoping he came out soon, so he could give Allie an explanation to all of this.
Many hours later Allie had fallen asleep resting her head on the counter. Kaliam tossed and turned in his sleep as he had a nightmare. He started to talk in his sleep “No… Stop… I won’t let you kill her!” he yelled, scaring Allie. She fell off the chair and busted into the bedroom.
Allie scanned the room then stared at Kaliam as he was sweating and breathing heavily. He leaned forward, holding his hand to his face, rubbing his eyes. He looked overseeing her, then observed that it was in the middle of the night. “Sorry did I wake you?” He asked out of breath. Her face retorted in an angry manner “Yes! You scared me to death!” She yelled as his breathing calmed. She looked away not meaning to snap at him. “I’m sorry I didn’t me-“
She was cut short as Kaliam started to speak “Don’t be… I am but a measly visitor and I have apparently taken your bed and drenched your sheets in my blood.” Allie stares at him in surprise and smiled shyly at him.
“It’s not every day someone falls out of the sky and has to take refuge. I do wish you hadn’t bled on my sheets, but I enjoy your presence.” Allie explained and sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the scar spanned across his chest.
He followed her gaze to his chest. “Why are you staring at my chest?” He asked confused. Kaliam gives her a strange look.
“O-oh well, those scars you have on your chest? How did you get them?” She asked cautiously as his torso from back to front was littered with small and large scars all over. One, in particular, was spanning from the top of his left breast all the way across to the lower half of his right.
He frowned and looked away. “I will tell you another time…” He replied and his face emotionless as he spoke. Allie stared at him, shocked.
Kaliam avoided eye contact before speaking in a low tone. “I need some time alone if that is possible.”
Allie stared at him with a raised eyebrow but understood and walked over to the bedroom door. “Are you sure?” She asked, hoping he would change his mind. Kaliam didn’t say a single word.
Before Allie had closed the door completely she had noticed he had taken a piece of parchment out of his undergarments pockets and stared at it. Running his fingers across it like it meant something to him.
She closed the door and laid on the couch, wondering what exactly she saw in his hand “was it a letter? Or maybe a picture of someone?” She dozed off until morning.
All was quiet in Allie’s apartment after Kaliam asked Allie to leave him alone. Kaliam indeed had not gotten any sleep during the night. He couldn’t while pondering about his realm. “Something doesn’t seem right… Why am I in this world? I should have been home holding our ground at the castle doors.” This thought bounced around in Kaliam’s mind until dawn.
Allie peaked into her bedroom to check on Kaliam. She saw his back towards her in the dim sunlight that has managed to seep through the drapes of the window across the bedroom. “You up sleepy head?” She asked shyly, waiting for a response.
Kaliam sighed covering up to two pieces of tattered papers. He sat up looking up at Allie peeking in from the door. “Yes, I am awake.” Kaliam implied as he yawned and closed his eyes revealing dark bags under his eyes. Allie noticed them. “Did he get any sleep last night?” She whispered to herself.
Kaliam approached her and left the two papers on the bed hidden by the covers. Allie, being the nosy person she was, plotted to take a peek of what he was hiding from her soon enough.
