The Seven steps guards are from the Orderkil town. Ignoring civil hierarchies, the guards themselves are tasked with regulating themselves.

The guards are split into five groups that are each tasked with reporting on two of the other groups. While this certainly reigns them in, this just means that corruption, like a cauterized wound, is persistent but not bleeding.

“People are evil.”

“Oh? By what measure?”

“Uh. Feet and inches?”

“San Na Litly and Bo had wandered into the Ordekril building. The ceiling was suprisingly high and nothing inside was as she had expected. One person had noticed San Na Litly saulter in on top of her conjured minion. ”

“Who are you?”

“It’s not nice talking down to people is it?”

“The person’s voice became noticeably softer. The person was a tall woman with slow moving vines moving about her body. These vines move slow enough that they could be mistaken for simple ropes.”

“Bo, put me down.”

“Be careful.”

“I will.”

“The tall woman couldn’t help but feel sweet feelings of adoration to see the rather one-sided conversation of what she considered a small girl and her sizeable puppet.”

“Is this your friend?”

“That’s right. This is Bo. Bo, say hi.”

“Grpmh.”

“He’s shy around people.”

“Oh? That’s alright. I am Vietral, you can call be Vi.”

“I am San Na Litly. Most people call me Sana.”

“You just arrive in town, Sana?”

“Yes.”

“Are you planning on going into the mine?”

“Sana’s eyes moved towards the insignia on the woman's upper left chest, just below her collarbone. A healthy green glow and the number fifteen made her surprised. Even though Sana can’t know the weight of such a number, it is the highest she has seen so far.”

“You’re looking at my level?”

“Are you strong?”

“Laughing, Vi flexed her right arm, her athletic body is far more impressive than the scrawny, almost sickly, San Na Litly.”

“What do you think?”

“Strong!”

“That’s right. I’ll tell you a secret. I’m a part of the Orderkril guards.”

“Oh! Are they strong?”

“A look of enlightenment shone in Vi’s eyes. She tapped one of her fingers on the side of her nose. She momentarily forgot that this newbie didn’t even know the scope of the village, whatnot a titan like the town Orderkril.”

“Want to find a place to sit where we can chat? Do you have a quest here?”

“I don’t have a quest. But over there is a light.”

“That’s the general board. You’ll be able to get nonguide quests there. But be careful, they can sometimes be harder to complete than normal quests.”

“Vi has began walking towards a side area in the buildings hall, a restaurant area. She nods at the guards standing outside the entrance and they let her and San Na without any issue.”

“Uhm.”

“Just relax. Want something to drink? Are you hungry?”

“A look of dismay appears on San Na Litly’s face. Her expression as honest as could be.”

“Okay, okay. We’ll get somethings, my treat.”

“Thanks.”

“You have to be careful about those quests. Unlike guided quests, I’m sure you’ve completed one so far, right?”

“I finished one quest.”

“Find civilization?”

“Yes.”

“That’s what new arrivals usually get. Natives starter quests are far more mundane. Such as planting or gathering corn. Peasants can’t be compared to hero’s like you.”

“Hero?”

“Hero! All new arrivals have the potential to become hero’s. Summoners like you are not common but your not too rare.”

“Seeing a server come to their table, Vi orders a few things in a hushed voice. San Na looks on expectantly. San Na is used to people doing things for her and not because she is royalty but due overbearing protective family members.”

“Are you a hero, Vi?”

“No.”

“With a prideful smile, Vi leans forward propping her chin on her hands and her elbows on the table.”

“I’m just a normal peasant. But even peasants can achieve great things. Just like how heroes can fall into fail and disappear into obscurity.”

“Do you have a power?”

“Like your summoning? Did you summon this big guy?”

“Bo? I don't know. Bo has always been with me. I don’t remember when he got this big, he used to be small like little Bo. This is little Bo.”

“I see. Well, I do have a power. But I wasn’t born with it. I had to level up, fight dangerous fights and when reached level ten I was granted an ability by the world.”

“Really?”

“Really. The world is kind but fair. He rewards those that work hard and ignores those that are complacent. So if you want to become a great hero, you have to work hard.”

“I want to be an adventurer! Me and Bo are going to travel the world together.”

“A healthy and rowdy laughter echoed in the restaurant, catching the attention of the people dining. After a moment’s glance they return to their own business.”

“That’s great, Sana. That’s a good goal. You have to work hard.”

“I will!”

“The food is here. Let’s after we eat.”

“Dish after dish arrives, mainly large plates of meat. And despite repeatedly asking her puppet to eat, it remains steadfast in its refusal. This all to the great amusement of Vi, who is ravenously eating.”

“Sana.”

“Mh?”

“You have to be careful out there. A lot of people would be likely to make trouble for a pretty girl like yourself.”

“Unconsciously touching her face, San Na looks up to Vi, whose face is hidden behind a crescent moon. But even if she can see her mouth, it's a bit unerring to see her stuff food into it without opening it.”

“Why is your mask different?”

“I found it.”

“Huh?”

“We all have the masks we are born with, but you can find and even buy different masks. They have different effects and can even change a persons personality.”

“Really?”

“That’s right. My masks is connected to the waning crescent moon. It makes me cheerful and easy going. This has some benefits but it can also be a burden on me.”

“Why?”

“Because sometimes being cruel and cold is what lets you live another day.”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s hard to explain, Sana. You have to remember that not everyone is kind and caring. Most are won’t care about you, and some may even be malicious and evil.”

“I know about evil people.”

“That’s good. Do you think I’m evil?”

“No.”

“An honest shake of the head. San Na’s eyes practically light up with the peerless lights of naivety.”

“Then you’d be wrong. I have done a lot of bad things.”

“Like what?”

“I’ve stolen from people.”

“That’s not that bad.”

“I’ve hurt people.”

“We can all make mistakes.”

“I’ve killed people.”

“With a casual action, San Na put down her fork and looked.”

“Was it bad people?”

“That’s right.”

“Then it's okay.”

“Reaching for her fork. San Na continues her meal.”

“Then it’s okay?”

“Vi can’t help but sit back in her chair, lost in thought. She had been dwelling on her past actions a lot these last few days. She had to do things she wasn’t proud of. But once she took a life she felt something shift. And following that she had to take more and more lives. It made her feel broken.”

“It’s okay, Vi. I also hurt people. All my family cares about me but I always hurt them.”

“Vi is drawn out of her reverie and she looks at this innocent looking girl. That’s what she thinks Sana is. A little girl. But this her full grown body, she is only smaller than Vi, and is only a couple years older than her.”

“My mom is always crying because of me. A lot of people say I’m crazy. My bad is always sad and my siblings avoid me.”

“I see.”

“Unable to relate or understand, Vi can only nod and continue listening.”

“But it's still okay. Sanalil will become strong and so I won’t have to hurt my family anymore. Isn't that right Bo?”

“The large puppet shakes briefly in acknowledgement.”

“That’s good Sana.”

“Vi’s eyes rest on the large puppet looming over Sana. In the past she used to envy people born with abilities. It wasn’t until she earned her own that let these petty feelings pass.”

“Sana.”

“Yes?”

“Don’t go into the mine unless you have a guided quest.”

“What do you mean?”

“If you go wildly into the mine without a guided quest, it is hard to say if you can ever return.”

“How do I get guided quests?”

“Guide quest appear like any quest, it can be randomly there upon waking up or stumbled on by coincidence. But it has a direct purpose, a clear goal and is within the person’s level to complete.”

“I’ve only seen one quest so far.”

“Other quests are marked with the location you received them from. Once we’re finished here we can go over to the board and see what kind of quests you get.”

“Alright. I’m finished now.”

“Good, lets go then.”

“What Vi is calling a guided is quest is a quest allocated naturally to an individually, rather than one created by points of interests. Guided quests are not excluded from such points either, but all geographical quests are point of interest quests, while guided quests might be completed anywhere within the world.”

“Alright just step into the light. You see a cylinder of light right?”

“Yes, I see it.”
