A little breathing room

A little breathing room

Ham returned to his work with filling up additional rooms.

He found the upward stair the most effective option, particularly ones that were small beams. It was odd to lay out, stretching what the system could configure. He set up a spiral with a small thickness of floor, then added "pit traps" throughout, which removed holes through the spaces. This included making steps that hung out in the air, with a central vertical area without anything in it. At the very bottom he placed spikes, which cost mana as if he had dug a pit all the way from the ceiling.

This room he filled with the Swerfvalk, otherwise known as the Pregrine Falcon. They had the following status:

Swerfvalk

Solitary

They could wing their way up the stairway easily, then swoop down in a dive at speed to knock beings off the stairs. They hunted by diving talon first into other birds, and so were designed to hangle the corresponding impact.

He created another similar floor, but with closer spacing of beams, so that people would have to clamber upwards or crawl forwards at a shallow angle. This meant that they were less likely to fall, but would have much greater difficulty defending against the Swerfvalk.

The Swerfvalk proved to be a boon in the earlier rooms as well, being able to harrie the larger Nkwazi and stop their slow advance. With their distractions and slowing the Addax were able to make more attempts at attacking without dying themselves. Likewise any invading Swerfvalk could be matched and the high ground advantage of the second room was sufficient to prevent them travelling any further in.

Finally his accumulations reached the point where he could attempt to make a fire aligned monster. As this was intended to be the boss, he decided to wait until he had a 100% chance of success.

Ham considered his options, aware that the gods could respond at any time.
