First Mission Alone

First Mission Alone

“Man, You sure do like telling that story, Don’t you Amon.” a familiar female voice says. I turn to see my classmate Sera standing there with her deep red hair and bright red eyes. Since that incident, six years have passed and a lot happened. I enrolled in a school full of people like me who can use celestial energy. I learned a lot of spells, and I’m even in a squad that is licensed to fight infernals. Of course, I'm still F-Rank, which is the lowest level you can get. You can rank up through reputation. The more missions you do, the higher your ranking goes. The rankings go: F, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS. We also class infernals through the same rankings. The more problems they cause, the higher their ranking goes. We are only allowed to fight and engage infernals same rank as us. If we encounter any that outrank us, we are to retreat and call for backup. “Yo, Sera you ready for our mission later?” I saw with a hint of excitement. “You and Cassiel are always the same,” she says with sarcasm. I am in a team of three students and one high ranker. To lead a team, you must be at least A rank. Teachers must be either B rank or be very skilled in the subject they teach. Our Health teacher who teaches us how to use healing abilities is only D rank but can use healing energy better than almost anyone. Since she isn't combative, she can't rank up any higher. Our instructor is Laila, and she ranks SS, being one of four people currently ranked SS. Each person usually has a specialty they use. While my skills in healing severely lack, I make up for it with my proficiency in manipulating celestial energy to form dark abilities. My other teammate Cassiel excels in manipulating energy into water-based abilities. While Sera excels in the use of manipulation of fire. Leila, our team leader, excels in dark-based abilities as well, but I can’t even hold a candle to her. “Hey, Amon let's head to the park to meet up with the others.” Sera says in an energetic voice. “Let’s hurry, I’m excited to get going.” I say getting up and running out the door. We walk to the park, where Cassiel and Leila are already standing there waiting. I walk up to Cassiel raising my hand, “Yo, ready for this?” Cassiel raises his hand and slaps mine. “Always, bro.” Cassiel smiles, his long messy deep blue hair sways in the wind. *CLAP* “Alright guys, today's target is a human who just now can use infernal energy. Shouldn’t be a challenge for you three.” Leila says after clapping to get our attention. “You coming with us this time, ma’am?” “No, you three can handle this on your own, Amon. Your target was last spotted at a lake about twelve miles east of here. He should still be there practicing. Now hurry and take him out.” Leila says in an energetic tone. The three start walking towards the east. “I hate walking in this business. Sera says already tired. We continued walking for three hours before arriving at the lake and hiding in nearby foliage. We cut our coms on in our ears. “Anyone see the target?” I ask, peeking out from behind a tree. “Not yet,” Sera says looking from inside a nearby bush. “Someone is sitting to the east.” Cassiel says. “I’ll see if it’s our guy.” I say stepping out from behind the tree. I start walking and making my way to him before stopping not too far from him. “Hey there.” I say to him, waving. He looks at me, and I can see his skin is wrinkled and he is very scrawny. “What?” he says in a rough tone. “I just came to see the lake. My name is Amon. What about you-” he pounces at me before I can finish my sentence. I quickly jump back to avoid him. I hold out my hands and chant “By all that lives and all that is blessed by divinity, Please lend me your energy and summon the dark blade” Shortly after the energy from surrounding life flows into me forming a pitch-black katana into my hand. “Damn, you are one of the celestials, right? I’ll surely be rewarded for killing you.” he says, charging in. I let the dark blade guide my hand slicing downwards fast cutting his left hand off. “Just come with us quietly, or we will have to get more physical.” I say in a cocky tone. “Fuck, you little shit, you cut my hand off. RAHHHHHH.” he screams, and I can feel the energy of rage and hatred pouring out of him. He forms a spear of flames before throwing it at me. I swipe my blade to deflect it. As soon as my blade touches it, it glows brightly before blowing up into a flaming spiral. I fly back into a tree. I look up, seeing him charge at me. Right before he reaches me, a wall of flames forms between us. And a ball of water charges at his head, hitting him and knocking him out cold. “Amon you are helpless, huh” Sera says, letting the wall of flames down. “Yeah, yeah, I had it.” I say standing up. “Thank you for the blessing of divinity. You can return now.” I chant as the dark blade dissipates into nothingness. Cassiel grabs the target and starts walking towards the road. We follow behind closely. Upon reaching the road, we see Leila already in a car waiting. “YOU DROVE, BUT MADE US WALK?!” Sera yells in anger. “He-he, think of it as part of your training.” Leila says waiting for us, so get in. “Any issues?” she asks. “No problems. The mission went smoothly.” Cassiel says after putting the target in the seat beside him. After we all get in, Leila starts driving us back. About ten minutes pass before the target jolts up and summons another fire spear. “Let me out, or I’ll-” Without being able to finish his sentence, the fire spear disappears, and he coughs up blood. He slumps over. Cassiel presses his fingers to his neck.” No pulse.”. “What the hell happened?” I saw confused. “I crushed his heart, so he wouldn’t damage my new car.” Leila states. “How did you do that?” I asked confused. “Simple, I created a ball of darkness around his heart and shrunk it quickly.” she states nonchalantly. “Teach, your kinda scary” Sera says looking at the body. The rest of the drive went smoothly. We arrive at the school and set the body on a table in the summoning room. The three of us stand in a triangle around the body while Leila watches. We all start chanting in unison. “This human has turned against his kinda and rejected the blessing of divinity. May his energy dissipate out of him and into the ones who brought this upon him.” The infernal energy in him releases into the air before absorbing into us. We all focus and convert the energy into celestial energy and release it out. “Good work guys. Foods on Amon let's go.” Leila says, walking out. “HUH, WHY ME?” I say while we all run out behind her.
