Jin had a total of four wives, he had one main wife two concubines and a head concubine. They didn't live in harmony and often fought in the shadows with each other for dominance.

Presently a concubine was pregnant and the main wife was pregnant. With the two being the first to become pregnant it threatened the other two and decreased the value of their positions so as the pregnancies furthered along, the two nullipara made the courtyard become quite unstable.
