Chapter IV
She starts crying uncontrollably, the pains, the traumas, all of it, every single moment of that hell-hole was engraved in her mind.
A long-term bruise that will never heal.
A stain that won’t wash away.
No matter how hard she tries to get rid of it, it won’t go away. Her trembling hands reaching out to scratch her skin in hopes of the stain falling off, the stain that her dear mother hates so much.
Although crying is a normal behavior for a baby, but even the woman could tell something isn’t right. She did her best to calm Valerie down, but it was to no avail.
The woman had no choice, all she could do was embraced her in a gentle hug and whisper soothing words.
Ophelia: “There, there, everything’s okay. You’ll be okay.”
After a while, the baby got tired and fell asleep in the woman’s arms.
Ophelia: “I wonder why she suddenly reacted like that. Even if I ask, she won’t be able to answer.”
She magicked up a cradle and place the baby in there. She gave her a kiss on the forehead and smiles.
Ophelia: “I can’t believe I have a daughter now. I wish you were here to see her, Cyrus.” ….
Ophelia: “there I go, reminiscing about a man who’s no longer here again. *long sigh* Really, you said you want a daughter with eyes like mine, so why… why aren’t you here right now?”
A teardrop landed on the floor.
She touched her face and felt the tears flowing more and more.
Ophelia: “H-huh? Tears? Hah, I guess Val’s cry rub off on me.”
She wiped it all away and cast a magic barrier on the cradle and went to the kitchen.
A few hours have gone by and Valerie woke up. She still can’t seem to get a grip on reality. What happened to her? Or why is she here? Is everything real? she can’t find an answer to any of those question.
Ophelia: “Oh my, did my footsteps wake you up?”
As she walked closer to her. Every time Valerie is within her field of vision, she would always plaster a big smile on her face. Something Valerie hasn’t gotten used to. It bothers her every time.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Ophelia carefully picked her up and fed her a bottle of milk. She was hungry so she absolutely inhales that milk, despite her skepticism.
Ophelia: “Up we go. Woah, is the milk that good? You gobbled it down so quickly. Hehe.”
Safe to say that was the sweetest milk she’s ever had.
Valerie just stared blankly at Ophelia while she continues to smile.
Ophelia: “Even though Kiel said you’re mentally fully grown, right now you’re still just a baby. I’d have no way to know exactly what you’re thinking or why you reacted as you did earlier.” She says with a hint of sadness.
Ophelia: “Still, as your mother I hope that when you’re finally able to speak later you’d trust me enough to let me know what’s on your mind.”
She kissed Valerie’s forehead. Her kiss was filled with absolute tenderness and motherly love. Valerie of course did not know how to act in response to this. This action wasn’t completely bizarre to her but she just hasn’t experienced this in so long, she had forgotten how it’s supposed to feel.
Ophelia: “Whatever you’ve gone through in the past, just know that right now you’re my daughter. I’ll protect and help you to the best of my ability. Throughout every aspect of your life, I’ll support each and every step you take. I’ll be there to witness all your best moment going forward. I’ll be there to wipe your tears till the end of my life, I do hope all of it will be tears of happiness. I’ll forever shower you with the love and attention you deserve. In this world and in this life, no one will ever be more precious to me than you two, my children.”
Her words brought a sense a of comfort to Valerie. Though, her lack of trusts still hasn’t faded away she still wants to give this life a chance. She badly wants to drown herself completely in those words, a warmth she’s always wanted.
Ophelia: “That’s my sole duty as your mother. So, will you let go of your past and accept me as your mother? Val.”
Valerie reluctantly moved her tiny hands to reach her, as a sign to say that she’s accepted those words.
Valerie: “Even if those words might turn out to be a complete falsity in the future, still, just a little, please let me enjoy this warmth just for a little while longer.” She thought to herself and let herself sink in the momentary glimpse of hope, the hope she had given up on in her past life.
Seeing this blissful action her dear daughter displayed, her smile beamed. Ophelia’s completely consumed by happiness. She lifts her up and danced around the room happily. This will forever be a core moment for them both. Ophelia lets out tears of joy. She may have known her for a few days but she feels an intent motherly instinct towards her, after all she’s now her daughter.
Ophelia: “I swear to love you with my whole being, I’ll take care and nurture you to the best of my ability, I’ll be there to guide you till the end of the earth, my dear daughter.” The tenderness never left any words she uttered.
Ophelia: “Your mom’s pretty powerful too you know, so don’t be afraid to cause all kinds of trouble.” A satisfied smile appeared on her face.
Two weeks passed by like lightning for Ophelia. She spent all of her times with Valerie and they got along pretty decent. But she still knows Valerie hasn’t given her full trust to her yet.
Dusk came, Izekiel’s finally back home. As soon as he stepped into the room his eyes were intently glaring at the baby in his mother’s arm. He still doesn’t like her, maybe his dislike towards her grew more in the past two weeks.
Ophelia: “Oh! Izekiel you’re back! Look at this.” She says with excitement.
Ophelia put Valerie down on the couch and sat beside her, then she opens up her palms vertically in front of Valerie and Valerie knew to align her palms with hers.
Ophelia immediately looks back to Izekiel with a proud smug on her face. Izekiel just gave a her a look of distaste in response and went up to his room. Ophelia pouted.
Ophelia: “My gosh, he didn’t even say hi. He wasn’t like this when he was younger, he was much cuter.”
Ophelia: “Oh look at the time, I need to get started on dinner.”
