Supreme Court Overturns Illinois Ruling: Access To Magic Protected Under Second Amendment
Saturday, November 9th, 2024, the Supreme Court saw the Fredrickson vs Illinois State case, ruling that access to magic should be protected under the second amendment, same as guns, to much public outcry. This ruling may cause many states' laws to be ruled unconstitutional in the future, allowing magicians free reign of the skies once more.
Many are calling for legislation to allow individual states to impose limitations on the use of, or require permits to perform, magic in public spaces to prevent reckless usage of magic that can lead to the injury or deaths of uninvolved parties, similar to concealed carry laws.
One such reckless endangerment case happened the previous Friday, with a Texas man coming in for a landing in a McDonald's parking lot. The man was traveling at speeds that would have had him not only given a speeding ticket, but arrested, should he have been driving on a road, when he went in for a landing right outside the establishment's door. He failed to stop himself in time to avoid the family of four that were leaving, breaking the arms and ribs of the father as he reacted in time to protect his kids, along with the perpetrator's own ribs from the impact.
While many condemn the decision, many others praise it. The increased access and exposure to magic has been shown to increase its use among children, similar to any other developing skill. The increased public usage of magic, they claim, will better prepare the future generations for their time in the war on fraxions. While controversial in itself, the war is not something we humans have any power to stop, and a tragedy on a level only ever seen during the world wars.
Related to the above, but kept brief due to the tangential relationship to this topic, it should be mentioned that those capable of magic have been significantly more successful in combating the fraxions. Regardless of what you may think about magic as a whole, magicians are needed in some capacity in order to help on that front. Whether it be in the extreme form of being regulated to exclusively army access - which has become impossible with the new ruling - or you desire the opposite extreme of teaching children how to perform magic in school, a blanket ban on magic would be a grand misstep of epic proportions.
Where the line must be drawn on limiting magical access and teaching it for the continued survival of all of mankind will have to be determined through years of legal battles and attempted legislature. We can only guess what the future holds for us in that regard.

Florida Man Sieges Walmart With Army Of Hungry Alligators
Yesterday, a man from Florida seized control of his local walmart with a legion of alligators he picked out of the nearby rivers using his telekinetic magic.
Police say that the man flew the alligators across the city and landed them in the parking lot, letting many of them free then and there. This caused chaos, allowing him entry to the store itself, where he released the remaining alligators upon the population inside. He then made a bee-line to the junk food isle, where he picked up the entire stock of Doritos chips, before making his way to the drink isle, where he claimed all but the red Gatorade.
It wasn't long before the police showed up, initially responding to the reports of a wad of alligators floating across the city, increasing their urgency when they heard what they were being used for. Animal control was promptly on the scene and all the alligators were taken off the premises unharmed, thankfully similar to the state of all the citizens caught in this man's rampage.
As he ate and drank from his plundered stock, he also made his way to the electronics section, seeming to scout out the televisions for which one to take home, where he was blind-sided and taken down by the police. Luckily for them, he had not directly taken any hostages beyond those the alligators chased in hopes of food. The majority of them ate the meats from the open freezers along the western wall of the establishment, calming them and making them easy to escort back to the rivers they belong in.

The man in question, one Leonardo French, claimed to have been possessed, watching his actions trapped in his mind while an outside force piloted his body, searching and screaming for Gatorade and Doritos, the items he had attempted to steal. While it is unknown if magic has the ability to control minds, no one has come forward with any such magic and no one who has claimed to have such powers have been able to replicate their abilities in laboratory conditions.
Additionally, ghosts and demons have not spontaneously come into existence in these strange times, thankfully, so his claims, while still technically possible if some strange, elusive criminal has figured out mind control magic, will probably lead him to many years of jail time.

Prodigal Mage, Age 9, Invents New Spell
9 year old Jhonny Kenson shocked the magical world last week as his parents revealed his ability to turn matter transparent.
While spells have been crafted to see through objects before, they was still limited by the access of light to the location that was desired to be viewed. While you could indirectly see through a wall, if the room on the other side had its lights off, all you would see was darkness. The spying and privacy concerns with the existence of such a spell are not within the scope of this article, but should be mentioned.
This new spell, however, threatens to revolutionize medical procedures, as doctors will be able to directly inspect the insides of a patient without the need for X-ray machines or MRIs, or more invasive procedures like exploratory surgeries or probes. The ability to accurately diagnose problems that would have been hidden before will allow doctors to more accurately prescribe medicines and treatments to issues that may have been un- or improperly diagnosed before.
Rather than wondering if a lump is cancer, your doctor will be able to directly investigate if it's a dangerous cancer or just a benign lump that will go away on its own. Pregnant mothers will be able to directly view their child, rather than needing to view them through ultrasound. Sports staff will be able to inspect an injury to determine if the bone has been broken or fractured or if the athlete will be able to play.
The potential uses for this spell, while not truly limitless, will surely bring about much more accurate diagnoses and treatments in the coming years.

Supreme Court Seat Empty After Justice Taken By Fraxions
Last night, supreme court justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr was taken into the arena and brutally murdered by the fraxions. The political impacts of this will be far reaching, as it means that no government official will ever truly be safe, and new legislation will need to be written for what is to be done in these cases. While many similar laws are in place for what is to happen should a political figure is killed, and lines of succession are long, what is to be done for positions that have no such lines of succession?
While in the past, it was not a pressing issue what should happen after a supreme court justice passes or resigns, as they are just to be appointed through the usual, long process, we could see a rapid emptying of the seats of the supreme court as the fraxion menace accelerates their rampage through our numbers. Will a new amendment be rapidly pushed through to account for this, to put lines of succession in for supreme court justices? Maybe a new political seat will open up, a backup justice. Someone who will be granted no immediate power, but take over for a supreme court justice should they become unable to perform their duties.
If that is the route the government takes to rectify this deficiency of current legislation, it could potentially lead to backup appointments followed by assassination attempts on the justices' lives, or other similar plots to remove the current justices to put others in their place. The exact way this will be handled, if at all, will need to be carefully thought out, as a hasty decision could lead to the ruin of one of the pillars of upholding our constitution.

First Magical College Opens In Japan
The first of its kind, Mahokko Academy is a college-level academy with a foremost focus on magic. While in the opening week, we can't be sure of its efficacy, the rapid push toward magical development in these years has been stunted by lack of proper education on the topic. Now, those who are able to gain enrollment in Mahokko Academy will be able to dedicate a significant portion of their efforts toward learning and advancing the field.
This is a bold move, as public opinion, especially in japan, about magic is mixed, to say the least. If successful, this should push other countries to open similar schools and add magic courses to pre-existing curriculums in order to entice their citizens to remain in their own country, rather than run away to japan to learn magic there.
