Chapter 73 (Book 2 - Zombie World)

Han observed the way the Hybrid seemed to be taking the losses in stride. They were going through the various monsters smoothly with the aid of the gems, and the abilities generated from the items. He was startled when he saw the woman's eyes flicker towards both Ruby and Lexi, who were positioning themselves.

"Did you think I wouldn't notice the two of you?" The Hybrid sounded amused.

"Ruby! Fall back!" Han yelled.

Tentacles exploded out of the ground, surrounding Ruby and Ivy. All of the tentacles made their way to grab the two. Blurs were seen as the tendrils moved about, one of them was successful at catching one of Ruby's legs and began pulling her towards the exposed hole.

"Let go of her!" Lexi yelled as she used her dagger to slice through the tentacle. Her shadow used to elongate the blade, cutting through the material quickly.

Pushing off of the ground with one of her hands, Ruby was able to flip herself back to her feet. "Thanks, Lexi!"

"You guys okay over there?!" Han yelled out. Watching as Ruby and Lexi were barely holding on.

The ground began to tremble as if it were about to be ripped apart. "I think you need to worry about yourself," The woman laughed. A colored mist began congregating around her, her eyes shining.

"I don't like what that thing is doing!" Steve yelled as he moved back towards where everyone else was standing.

Feeling something heading towards him, Han looked back and saw that it was his mom and the others. It looked like both Jae-Hwa and Amanda were okay, at least to the degree they were willing to join the fight.

"What's happening?" Amanda asked.

The woman began laughing. "Is this what allowed me to transform?! I feel so much power!" Both of her hands were out in front of her as she looked jubilantly at the mist that was coating her body.

Looking at the mist, Han realized that it was mana and the same kind that was leaking out of the Facility. He looked around, trying to figure out where all the mana was originating from. The amount that was being sent towards the Hybrid was unusual and not something that the world was capable of producing naturally.

Behind the Hybrid, there was an opening, likely another tunnel that led to another part of the network of tunnels. The gas was coming out of the darkness and flowing into the creature.

"You've had your fun... but it's time for you to leave," A cold voice was heard over the laughter.

The Hybrid stopped and turned to look at the source of the voice. "Oh... Do we have another meal?" She grinned viciously.

Out of the tunnel that was leaking the mana, the shape of a man walked out. Next to the man was a woman that had something that looked like a parasol and flower combined. The blue mist was coming out of the flower, as the woman twirled it around. Both of mysterious people had expressionless faces, looking like people ordered to do a task they thought was beneath them.

"That flower! Give it to me!" The woman demanded to the human-sized woman.

"I hate when they're like this, thinking that they're special for just reaching the starting line," The smaller woman sighed and spoke to no one in particular.

"Your feelings are irrelevant in this task, Asa. All our task involves is bringing the Newly Born back with us." The man said.

"Whatever," Asa said. As if noticing something, she seemed to realize that Han and all of them were present. "It seems like this Newly Born was playing with its food." The way the woman looked at them was as if they were insignificant and closer to an oddity.

The man glanced over towards them but then went to observing the Hybrid. "There's no reason to concern ourselves with the Abandoned." Apathy was the only thing that seemed to be seeping out of the man's words, though there was a hint of annoyance likely directed at the woman next to him.

Feeling as if it was being ignored, the Hybrid dashed towards the two figures. A mixture of greed and anger on its face. It likely hoped to acquire the flower Asa was carrying, while also punishing the people that slighted it. "I'm going to devour you, and then we'll see who is the powerless one!" It laughed in glee at the idea of acquiring more of the mist.

Though the sight of a giant monster charging in their direction should have been frightening, both the man and woman appeared to not be concerned about the approaching threat.

"Do you want to?" Asa asked the man.

Without a word, the man walked forward, clasping his hands and cracking the knuckles.

Han and the others were silent as they observed the fight that was about to take place. All of them curious about the two people and wondering how they were going to handle the conflict. As if a switch had been flipped, an oppression weight pressed down on all of them. Everyone was soon on their knees, trying to fight against the overwhelming pressure.

"What is this?!" Steve breathed heavily, his voice sounding strained as if talking was taking all the remaining strength out of him.

"Jade, we need to get out of here!" Kimberly yelled. She stopped herself from collapsing onto the ground by supporting herself with her arms.

Harmony collapsed on the ground, not able to withstand the pressure and the psychological burden being placed on her. "Grace...," She whispered, not able to formulate words with the strain being placed on her.

"Harmony!" Grace yelled. Collapsing on the ground, she used her hands and feet to drag herself in an attempt to reach her comrade. Judging by her movements, she was quickly burning through her stamina and would likely tire out shortly.

Han was on one knee and using one arm to support himself. Pressure was being applied to him, though it had no effect. Looking at the man, who had released some kind of power, Han noticed a faint look of surprise on the person's face.

In front of them, the Hybrid was being ground into the dirt floor, her beautiful face now filled with an expression of anger and fear. "Who are you?" It cried out in despair.

Instead of answering the Hybrid, the man continued to look at Han's group.

"Did you go easy on them?" Asa asked incredulously, a sneer destroying the cute image she had. "I thought there was no need to be concerned about the Abandoned," She taunted. Her eyes looked at the man and then moved to where all of them were trying to prevent themselves from sharing the same fate as the Hybrid. There was a flicker of thought that passed across her face and was quickly hidden behind an expressionless mask.

The man noticed the change in the woman but soon shared a similar expressionless appearance. Focusing his gaze on the Hybrid, he said in a cold voice, "Will you be trouble?"

"Please! Have mercy!" The Hybrid pleaded.

Asa giggled. "I think she believes that after you let up, she can overpower us," She teased the man.

The pressure in the chamber nearly tripled, nearly squashing the Hybrid. Its screams became louder, no longer pleading for its life and instead focused on survival. Tears were flooding down its face. Its face contorting in pain and comprehension was clearly visible, as it understood the difference in power between it and the two figures.

Holding up a hand, the man motioned for the woman to stop. "I think this New Born understands its place. Size is a poor measurement of strength, so this will be a good lesson for it."

"This is why it's a waste of time to send us when one of the lower ranks would have been adequate," Asa complained.

The man noticed how Han's group didn't seem to react drastically to the increase in power, and said, "But it appears we did get to see something interesting."

Asa didn't say anything, though it was evident that her thoughts mirrored his.

The air cleared itself of the overwhelming sensation, making everyone in Han's group breathe easier and sigh in relief. Jade shakily stood up, looking weakened and ready for anything that could happen.

"Get ready to escape," Jade croaked. It was clear that she was worried that the two were about to attack them.

In front of them, the Hybrid got back on its feet and looking similar to how they were feeling. As the man turned around and walked back into the darkness, the Hybrid meekly followed the man. Only the woman, named Asa, was standing outside of the tunnel. Her eyes seemed to look at each one of them before she turned to follow the two.

"What the fuck just happened," Steve asked before he collapsed from exhaustion.
