Chapter 1

15 years later...

Valerius moved his head on a swivel. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted his prey: a large deer. He slowly crept up behind the deer, bow in hand, only for it to notice him and bolt away. "Agh!" Valerius sighed in exasperation. "Why couldn't I be more like Father?" He was, of course, referring to his adoptive father, Gibson Seisam, who was the best hunter in the village. However, the unathletic Valerius was nothing like him. But he wasn't about to return to his village without food, not when his mother was injured. So he steeled his nerves and kept searching.

After tireless searching without finding anything, Valerius collapsed on the ground in exhaustion. Panting hard, he was just about to close his eyes when he spotted one of the rarer animals in Meribury Forest: a Moonrabbit. His eyes widened. Moonrabbits are worth so much! If I catch that, surely the profit can be used to help Father! Valerius also had a more selfish reason, that it would boost his reputation, as he was currently known as Valerius the Clumsy, which he was very indignant about.

Valerius drew an arrow back, aimed carefully, released, ...and missed. The Moonrabbit noticed the arrow and seemed to realize someone was hunting it. With a strong leap, it jumped away, leaving a tired Valerius collapsed on the ground. "What will I ever do?!" Valerius groaned, "I'm not good at anything!" The wearied Valerius slowly got to his feet and started walking back to his village, Enari Village.

However, when he exited Meribury Forest, he was greeted by an unexpected and horrifying sight. Enari Village was covered in flames; smoke rising to the sky all over the wreckage. Two things of all caught his attention most. First was that the flames weren't their normal flame, they were pitch black, as if you were staring into shadows. Second was that his house was on fire. Then, he realized his parents might still be in there, especially with his injured mother. He rushed over in a panic. Please, please, please! Valerius prayed desperately. When he entered his burning house, he found his mother lying on her back, with her breathing rapidly slowing.

"Mother! No! You can't die!" Valerius pleaded with tears streaming down his cheeks, "Don't leave me! I know you found me in box floating down Creschester River, but don't leave me!"

"I'm sorry Valerius, but you can't do anything. Just know I love you, and your father--" His mother was cut off as she took her last breath. Valerius sobbed, not believing that his (adoptive) mother was actually gone.

Valerius marched outside and found a couple of survivors huddled together. "Do any of you know who was behind this? And do any of you know where my father, Gibson Seisam, is?"

"I believe the Order of Necron was behind this," An old man croaked, "But none of us know where your father is. We searched, but couldn't find him, dead or alive." The old man continued, but Valerius wasn't listening anymore. He was filled with rage at the Order of Necron, for disturbing his peaceful life at Enari Village and taking his wonderful mother away from him.

Valerius clenched his fist, and placed it over his heart. "I swear, Mother, I will enact revenge on the Order of Necron. No matter what, I will destroy them, and nothing will stand in my way. I will punish, nay, destroy the Order of Necron and whoever collabarates with them, for what they have done to me and likely many others. They are monsters, living scum on the face of this world, and I will do whatever it takes to destroy them once and for all." Valerius swore. Valerius directed all the rage and hate inside of himself and released it outwards towards the sky, and shouted out for all to hear, "The Order of Necron, what you have done is unforgivable, and I will hunt you down to the ends of the world. And no matter what it takes, all of you should have the worst forms of death, for what you have done to me!" Then, Valerius collapsed under the exhaustion and the pressure his words put on him.
