"Will all First Year Students please report to the Mirror Chambers." spoke a voice inside Alex's head.
Orianna exited the bathroom in her first year uniform.
She wore the standard outfit of all first year girls with a black blazer, white shirt with a red string bow, a short red plaid skirt and stockings. Orianna chose to wear heels rather than the standard-issue shoes.
Alex looked down at his dapper uniform. His black blazer and black pants were by far the nicest outfit he had ever worn. He felt like a secret agent in a spy movie.
"It's time to go." said Orianna.
She pulled a thick red blanket from off of a large grand-mirror in the dorm room and pressed her hand against it. The mirror was enormous with a height much taller than Alex. The mirror's image began to warp and change from a reflection to the view of strange room.
"Could you hear that voice in your head too?" asked Alex.
"Every student can. It's how the announcements are done." said Mitsuha.
"Have you guys ever done Mirror Transportation before?"" asked Orianna.
"I have." said Mitsuha.
Alex shook his head at Mitsuha, "How do you know how to do everything here?!"
"My family has been going to this Academy for years. Not all Earth-borns are sheltered like you, Alex." teased Mitsuha as she walked towards the mirror.
The three looked in the mirror which showed a Chamber full of students in groups in a large banquet room.
Mitsuha pressed her hand against the mirror, which disappeared through to the other side.
Taking a deep breath, Mitsuha walked through the mirror, transporting to the banquet room.
"That didn't look too hard." said Alex.
"It's not. Trust me." said Orianna, as she winked at Alex.
Alex approached the mirror and pressed his hand against it. He watched as his hand went through the mirror with ease. Alex pulled his hand back out and back in a few times, amazed.
"This is incredible."
"It's not really. Mirrors are the standard way of travelling throughout the Academy." said Orianna, "But I guess it is pretty cool the first time you've seen it."
Alex took a deep breath and stepped closer to the mirror portal.
Putting his other hand through the mirror, he walked forward, disappearing from his dorm room.
Alex gasped for air as he emerged on the other side of the Mirror Portal.
"That was officially the coolest thing I've ever done."
Looking back at the Mirror, Alex watched as Orianna walked through the mirror effortlessly.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Let's go get our seats." said Mitsuha.
The three students walked towards three empty seats and sat down. Alex looked around the room. The banquet chamber was surrounded by mirrors covering every inch of the room with no exits out. Mirrors that weren't being used only showed the reflections of the red curtains that covered them, while mirrors in use showed other rooms, dorms, halls and parks with students standing on the other sides eager to enter.
"Students, take your seats please." spoke the loud voice of a female, sitting at the Master's Table at the front of the banquet chamber.
"Welcome to Aerendel Cloud Academy." spoke a man sitting in a large throne behind the Master's Table.
"I am the Headmaster, Lord Caius Crane." introduced the man.
"Some of you know me as the White Lion. Let me be the first to tell you that only the bad students know me as such. If you are good students you will simply know me as Headmaster or the Man with White Hair." said Caius Crane.
The students laughed at the Headmaster's joke.
Alex sat nervous and quiet.
"Today you join us in the Chamber of Mirrors so that tomorrow you may become Saviors, harnessing the power of Light. For those who do not know what a Savior is, they are dimensionalists who serve to protect our many civilized realms from destruction. As a Savior you will possess skills and abilities unlike any other. You will be a God among men. You will use these powers for good, or you will be returned here by your fellow classmates. Some of you will be tasked with dispatching the Fallen, while others will be stationed in places of importance protecting the innocent. For those that don't know, the Fallen are the Saviors, who choose to fight for the Dark. They seek to destroy what we have created. They will be your greatest foe." said Headmaster Caius Crane.
The students talked and bickered amongst each other, filling the halls with the sounds of a panicked crowd.
"Silence!" shouted the woman, sitting next to Caius Crane, at the bickering students.
"Your first lesson will start today in a few moments. This lesson will help us evaluate you effectively. We will see your strengths and your weaknesses, and you will be fully tested."
"We will have you teleported to a new world, a very hostile world. In this world you will fight to survive. If you choose to fight your fellow classmates, you will not be punished but it will be on record. Those who survive will be marked by points, the highest will be the winner of the lesson. Surviving in itself is a passing grade, so do not fear a failing grade for doing the bare minimum. This course is strictly an evaluation."
Caius Crane sat back down in his seat and nodded to the woman behind him.
"Please stay seated. The lesson will start momentarily." announced the woman.
Alex looked over at Mitsuha and Orianna as he tapped on his leg with his finger, patiently waiting for the event to start.
Alex looked down to his shoes and then back up to Mitsuha.
"How long does this thing take to start?" thought Alex out loud.
Alex fell to the floor as he watched the world around him change from a banquet hall to a vast grassy field in some other world or dimension. Instead of the banquet hall's cathedral-style roof, large planets and moons filled the sky above him. The world had enormous floating islands of rocks and grass, with trees growing from out of them.
A flowing river ran down the hill, which Alex leaned over to touch.
Alex felt as the weight of the new world weighed down on him. The gravity felt slightly different than on Earth, and made it a bit harder to stand upright.
The students all looked around at each other, confused and disoriented.
Orianna watched as some students quickly formed groups and dashed across the fields towards the forestry surrounding them, while others argued with each other.
"We should run for the forests like those other students. It's probably safer there." said Mitsuha.
"No." said Orianna as she looked towards the forests.
"Why?"
"The forests go uphill. With the change in gravity it will easily become a challenge for those students. What we can do is use the river, we can follow it downstream and use it to carry us so that we don't have to walk ourselves. Do you know how to summon your weapons?" asked Orianna.
Orianna reached out and began to materialize a sword in her hand. The blade appeared, shining a white-steel. Next came the golden hilt and grip of the sword from out of thin air. She placed it through the steel loop on the side of her black belt and casually turned to the other two.
"Just extend your hand. If you have equipped one it will know when to materialize."
Alex and Mitsuha held out their arms, and waited for their weapons to appear.
Nothing happened.
"I forgot to equip weapons at the armoury..." said Mitsuha.
"Armoury?!..." said Alex, "I didn't even know there was one."
"Don't fret. We will find some weapons here." said Orianna calmly.
