Chapter 10: Master Chi's Dream

Chapter 10: Master Chi's Dream

Master Chi Bao was a Chinese man from Hongkong in his fifties born in the 1990s, and he grew up in a chaotic time. He found a dream growing up and dedicated himself to achieving that dream. His early life was spent reading novels from his home country; his particular favourite was cultivation novels, the idea of using one's own inner force to do miraculous things. He became kind of obsessed with achieving that realm of power, and he realised it would take dedication and training, so he joined martial arts school after high school; he vowed to train and mediate and reach for the cultivation realm. When the Towers arrived and brought with them a system of magic and monsters, he was his happiest. Tho he would never express that to anyone; he had gathered the students of now his martial arts school and founded and guild or sect, as they called them in China, named after the school, the [Emerald Dragons]. Recently the Chinese government was pressing a more militaristic agenda and suppressing those who didn't want to use their new-found powers against other nations. So like many of the Chinese guilds, he decided to jump ship and move to a new country. Many chose Australia and Africa because of the low populations; they could make greater strides in those areas. Master Chi saw that the Americans were making the best progress thanks to the [peagus] guild, so he chose to go there. He had been negotiating with [peagus] about buying a guild building and joining the front lines when he spotted the loudmouth with the katana. Fate, it seemed, had smiled upon him that day because as he stood there in the desert holding the boy's phone, he could see the possibility of achieving his dream.

Max Hunt: on floor [2-7], go about two days east of the stairs. you will find the mini-boss of the second floor of the us tower.

Max Hunt: like the other creatures on the second floor, it is a Wolf; his name is Frenrix, Son of Hati. be careful. He is a sneaky bastard. take Will with you.

Will: I will, thank you - Master Chi

what master Chi didn't know that he had achieved one of Max's dreams, Getting Will to Shut the Hell up.

----------------------------------------

I was ecstatic when Master Chi accepted the alliance, and for a cheap price even tho [Hold my Beer] wasn't an established guild yet. it was only a matter of time, I did wonder why he and Will were together, but I had more pressing issues at the moment, typing up a document to send to J and Daren about cultivation. sitting in my apartment, I was staring at the document and re-reading it for a fourth time; cultivation was a nuanced practice, and it was hard to put into words what you had to do; many people had different methods of doing it, but these came from the tower itself and really could only be understood by the one who used the [skill book], but anyone could use the basic method if they had unlocked their QI. Basically, one had to circulate the QI in their body following paths called meridians, the followed the circular vascular system but were made from energy rather than anything organic, so one had to first perceive these lines by mediating and focusing inwards first they had to find the core and then move the qi inside it with their will, then it was about mapping the paths and finding the gates, they where what allowed Qi to flow inside of the body there are six major ones that where near vital organs, Heart, Lungs, Liver, stomach, Kidneys, and the Brain. there are minor gates connected to the joints and palms and feet, but they were smaller but not as important. once they had mapped their meridians, they had to make a circuit touching all the gates and returning to the core. if that wasn't all confusing and tricky, they had to feel the qi in the world and learn to draw it in; the circulation helped because as you circulated your qi, your core would be emptied, and it naturally will try to draw in energy mainly through the gate in your lungs, so controlled breathing was a must. finally, you had to put it all together to force your qi and the qi you gathered back into your core; this took the strength of will to do in large amounts; as more qi is forced into the core, it would expand like a balloon, doing it to fast or without the strength of will could cause damage to qi systems crippling your cultivation. QI was gathered through all sorts of means; eating meat from the tower beasts would allow you're body to gather residual qi inside the meat through your digestion system. certain mantras said or thought on repeat can allow your mind to draw in the energy as well. I once meat a bard who had a peculiar method of qi cultivation called Dual Cultivation. Sex he gathered Qi by having sex, which allowed his partner also to gather Qi as well, but it became his undoing he was discovered cultivating with someone's Wife.

after attaching an image of the basic meridian path and a circuit, I sent it off to J and Daren. I prepared to go back into the tower; the party and I were making greater strides, but due to a promise Julia made with my mother, we had to come out once a week to touch base. this turned out to be actually a good idea because I had to do some things today as well, like collecting my money and helping Gibil. so I headed to Tower Auctions; the auction for what I left should have been completed, so I headed to the front desk and hand my chit over to the cute receptionist.

The receptionist frowned as she scanned the card. "one moment, sir, I have to contact my manager", she said in a polite tone, and before I could say anything, she walked off. 'Odd that chit should have any details on it apart from what I am owed' I thought to myself. I stood there for about a minute till a large man suited in a fine suit came out to greet me.

"Hello sir would, it seems to be a problem with your chit would you like to step into my office for a quick chat," he said in a polite tone, but I could tell he was lying about the chit; I nodded; wondering what was going on and followed him to the office.

"Sorry for all this; here is your payment," he said once he had sat at his desk. he handed over and receipt and 2 common storage rings. I looked at the receipt for a good minute, trying to understand the number. I was seeing 67,500 gold.

"whoa," I let out a small whistle.

"yes, we were surprised to see the total. I heard the bidding war was historic." the manager smiled. "We sent some of the stuff to the American branch and did a big spread about the cure-all potion"

"but still, who in the hell would pay that much," I said, wondering

"Old rich, powerful, and dying people", the manager said with a warning glance. "This is the other reason I brought you into the office; while you made the auction anonymously, these people will be able to find you," he said in a grave tone. "the higher-ups have asked me to extend an offer or two your way"

nodding along, I understood what he meant a cure-all could cure cancer or any other mundane malady; that was a catch of the cure-all; the higher you go in the tower, the less effective it was on you; not only would the maladies be stronger, but you would fight off the potion because your body was stronger. you would need higher-grade potions; you could get potions that were common all the way to legendary, and their effectiveness was based on the grading. take healing potions, a common healing potion would heal 50 health, and an uncommon one would heal 150 health. what I had produced was a common grade cure-all, the cheapest to make and effective till about floor 20, but cancer was a no magical illness, and a common cure-all would cure it with one mint-tasting potion.

"so, the offers," I asked. I had a guess or a counter-proposal in my head already.

"Full-time employment with Tower Auctions in an alchemy lab; we offer a lucrative salary and huge benefits package that includes protection for you and your family," the manager said, really talking up this option.

"pass," I said without any hesitation. No way was I going to be locked in a lab somewhere mass-producing potions>

"Okay, the other option is you sell your recipe to us for 40,000 gold and 10% of sales made with them. this option, we would make you a VIP of Tower Auctions, and we take some heat off you," he explained.

it was a good deal, 10% of the cure-all sales, and I wouldn't have to make them, "Add 5 cure-alls every month for the next 6 months and ill accept your second deal", I countered

the manager smiled, and we shook hands he handed me another storage ring. {60,000 gold is just over 3 cubic meters of gold } With this deal, I had just made 43 million dollars. I knew it would last; however, in a month, the great gold collapse will happen, and the gold to dollars would drop to $2 per gram. so my next stop was to change a large chunk of this gold to cash for a rainy day. Looking at the bank, I was an 18-year-old multi-millionaire. I laughed, looking at his watch shopping would have to wait; it was time to fight the second-floor boss.
