Whilst at the orphanage, one of the kids decided to show me a magic trick. Unlike actual magic, this one was simply just a party trick.
It was very impressive—the trick performed used some kind of science to make an object float over the performer's hand. I didn't understand it, and they all kept the truth a secret.
...After my vacation, I returned to headquarters for a briefing. Surprisingly, the Asrai was still alive and the researchers gave it back to me after discovering that it was harmless, and was no way a threat or a spy from Toqia.
"Can you believe this?! They kept me in a jar and poked me with needles! Those guys were very sketchy and suspicious, I'd never want to go near them again!" It babbled on and on.
I didn't have any use for this... creature. But I guess I should probably keep it as a pet, or at least take responsibility for it since I kind of brought it here. No idea why they'd give it back to me instead of researching it further though...
The Asrai sat on my shoulder most of the time chattering incoherent things like a radio but whenever I tried to slap it away it just dodges my hand. It was loud and annoying—if only I got rid of it back at the lake..!
...Entering the meeting room, I could sense something malicious stalking us from afar. This feeling must be caused by my current target, and I'm certain that it'll be the main subject of this meeting.
"Ahem..! Everyone here?!" Uttered General Mhenfllnen, the man at the other end of the table.
I sat down after everyone in the room responded with "Affirmative!" There was silence for a short while until the Asrai broke it.
"Hey! You're all the same dudes who kidnapped me and experimented on me like an undiscovered animal!"
"Silence, water spirit! Wouldn't you want to be sent back into our research facilities? And Staff Sergeant Meyraqyrofy, if you do not take responsibility for it then you'll receive a considerable punishment, so I ask you to keep it quiet if you don't wish to rid of it!" He yelled.
"Y-yes... But sir... This thing is really slippery and I did not bring it along, it just kinda followed me here..."
Eventually, we got to the serious part after this rather awkward situation.
The reason why I was invited here with the rest of the officers was because of my current target, CANA3(Cwkviw Arqw Nevrssan Apolys III), as I expected. We could only speak about it like another significant enemy without mentioning anything about my secret mission. There were some other targets too, but the main subject was CANA3's achievements in the battlefield.
Witnesses and reports say that CANA3 destroyed entire armies with strange weapons that Toqia developed specifically for him. His weapons caused massive damage to our units. And to make it worse, they say that CANA3 is able to use magic and perform better than me right now!
"However, a mage unit we sent out came back with new discoveries. They say that he can fly without much use of magic even though human flight is only possible due to Aerial Magic, which is known to be very difficult and energy-consuming to use." Colonel Malley stated.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
"Impossible. No one in the history of this country has ever managed to fly without a dangerous amount of magic. If this mage really is flying with minimum amounts of magic for Aerial Magic, even with the help of technology, then he'd be the greatest mage to ever walk this planet!" Colonel Well exclaimed.
One of the officers then turned to me after some more talking. "So what are your thoughts on this, Staff Sergeant Meyraqyrofy? We called you here because you're one of our most talented special operators right now... And you're also capable of high-level sorcery. So perhaps you might know something."
Hmmm... Let me think...
He shouldn't be able to fly without extensive use of Aerial Magic. If he actually did, then he'd be 20 times better than me and we'd have no chance of ever defeating him. At my age, I can't even fly despite my talent.
"Staff Sergeant is still 7 years old. Give her some time and she'll overpower that 41 year old bastard. But if our forces are destroyed, she wouldn't have time to act. I suggest we give her something to counter this threat—like a small unit of elite soldiers and maybe design a magical device for her too. She won't be fighting him right now, but at least she'll have a way of attacking him in case they meet."
"Great suggestion. I've actually been thinking about it for a while now... With his defeat, we'll give Staff Sergeant Meyraqyrofy the role of Captain Qail until we find a proper replacement for him." General Mhenfllnen replied.
Wait, what?! I don't want to lead an army! I know the difficulties of teaching a bunch of kids, as I was actually a teacher for a short time back on earth..! I gotta find a solution for this quick... Something...
Kids? Flying?
Ah! I remember! The kids at the orphanage showed me the trick already—I think understand it now..! Or maybe I don't...
Well, how about I try using magic... There was a spell for this... I think it's called [Hscwh Ehltrrenin]—you could put it in the same category as my other spells in the same unknown language. Somehow, I just know that it'll help me in this situation.
"So how about it, Staff Sergeant? We'll formally introduce you to your new troops and all you need to do is sign some papers and you'll be given complete-"
"Hesechew Ehlterrenin." I abruptly chanted.
The officers were silenced with confusion as I finally understood what was going on thanks to the brain-enhancing spell.
...So basically, it's impossible to fly without a great amount of magic. The mages were probably right about him using minimal magic, but these officers are wrong for assuming he's actually using Aerial Magic.
With Electrical Magic, he could accumulate static charge into his body...
Back on earth, Coulomb's law states that F=kqq2/r2. We'll assume that CANA3's weight is 300kg since he's an old man with heavy military equipment flying over the battlefield—presumably 70 meters above ground. F=mg, so F=(300)(9.81)=2943N. K=8.99x10⁹ Nm²/C², and R=70m. Q=sqrt(Fr²/k), so Q=sqrt((2943)(70)²/(8.99x10⁹)), which equals to 1.52x10⁻²C. But still... He shouldn't be able to fly properly with that charge...
So that will only mean that he was using Electrical Magic instead of Aerial Magic! Electrical Magic is far easier to use and requires less to be effective..! To remain stable with such a nonoptimal charge, he'd have to use Electrical Magic to rapidly alter electric charge at high frequencies. He's rapidly reversing or modulating charges to maintain stability, which means...
...He's using [High-frequency Charge Oscillation]!?
So he's just using Electrostatic levitation and High-frequency oscillation, huh? This kind of Electrical Magic should explain how he can hear us in here—which is probably through electromagnetic signals. I shouldn't speak of this or else he'll hear me, though. But now that I've got proper information, I can make up a plan to counter this enemy!
Everyone's probably freaking out because they think he's really powerful, but now that I know his tricks, this'll be easy!
I'll just hope he doesn't outsmart me because anyone that can think of that would be a genius in brainworks. But I'm also a prodigy, as I have my strengths in magic, so this'll be a battle between brains and brawns..!
Or brains and brains, since we're both mages.
