Chapter 1: No Longer An Empty Dream

Chapter 1: No Longer An Empty Dream

He awoke on a stone slab, it was cold. The first thing he realized was that he couldn't move. He couldn't so much as twitch... He'd been strapped down firmly on a table made entirely of stone, his body felt as if it were laying a block of ice. The second thing he noticed was his name, he couldn't remember it. No matter how much he tried to dig it out of his head, his name remained a mystery to him.  Although, surprisingly, he did still retain the memories of his former life.

He judged by the sound of voices getting nearer and nearer to him that people were approaching him, whether there intentions good or bad he'd soon have to find out, with no way to get off the stone tables' slab there'd be no escaping whatever was to come, and that scared him. He stilled upon hearing a door slam and multiple footsteps approaching him, the rational part of his brain was nearly overtook by his fear alone, but somehow he managed to cling on to a small sliver of coherence not allowing himself to be entirely consumed by the emotion called fear.

The footsteps stopped at the edge of the table just out of his range of visibility.

"Finally, it's a success!" (Voice 1)

"Good work Doctor. Today you've just made history." (Voice 2)

"I told you didn't I! I said it was possible, I said I'd do it!" (Voice 1)

"That you did Doc, that you did..." (Voice 2)

"Enough fooling around around you two, look, it's already awake." (Voice 3)

His 'visitors' had noticed he was awake or to be more precise, one of them did. How though? He hadn't moved and he'd even managed to slow down his breathing (to the best of his ability) to the point where it should've been barely noticeable. He even went as far as to control his bodies shivering from the cold slab, so how? He decided the answer was unimportant as he suddenly felt the first of instinctual needs: the need to flee.

DANGER,DANGER, DANGER!!! His instincts screamed at him to run, get away from the threat, but he was strapped down to a table unable to accommodate those needs. No longer could he remain still and coherent as panic gripped him tightly. He thrashed, screamed...well, neighed as loud as he could, while tears began to leak from his eyes. The 'visitors' walked into his panic stricken gaze: there were 3 men in slender white robes with black stars littering the robe. Their robe(s) began from the shoulders of the men, it had no hood to speak of, and fell all the way down to the floor, effectively covering any footwear that were to be seen.

A hand reached out to pet him as he stared wide-eyed at the 3 men, his breathing turned erratic. The owner of the hand that had reached out to pet him had begun to gently coo at him as if he were a human child. The man attempted to stroke the side of his face in an effort to try to calm him, but it was to no avail. When the 2 other men came to the realization that calming him gently was no longer an option they removed their comrades' hand from his tear stained face and in its place a hand holding an odd smelling cloth was shoved over both his mouth and nose... and then his conciseness, unwilling, faded into the darkness along with his mind.

The Voices POV

The three men turned the knob on the door and quickly entered the room to see if their project had met with failure or not. The project entailed splicing the DNA or fusing of multiple Magical Beast into one entity. They labeled that entity as a Chimera, however over the years the project had been attempted many times only for it to fail and eventually the Chimera was spoken of as nothing but a myth or complete nonsense since everyone who had ever tried to create one reported that it couldn't be done..

These men, however, did not feel the creation of a Chimera was impossible so when asked by their funding parties what they wanted to work on next they answered with, 'Chimera' and logically all funding was cut off by said parties until they would choose a project that wasn't just an empty dream. ...The men refused, they rented out a small house for the project, took their equipment (most belonged to their funders so they couldn't take it), and began the long process of creating the very first Chimera the world had ever seen.

One of the three men, short with blonde hair, practically runs to stone table, where the fusing of multiple Magical Beast occurred just minutes ago, after having noticed that nothing has blood on it. As the blonde comes to halt at the table he can see the others standing beside him looking just as excited as he is. He decides he wants to be the one to say it first as he stares at the life form that is magically strapped to the table.

"Finally, it's a success!" He says, his voice practically radiating happiness.

"Good work Doctor. Today you've just made history." A brown haired man comments a bit sneakily, clearly upset he didn't get to say it was a success first.

"I told you didn't I! I said it was possible, I said I'd do it!" The blonde continues ignoring the comment.

"That you did Doc, that you did..." Brown hair says less snarky and more like bubbles of happiness are trying to come to the surface but are having a hard time getting there.

"Enough fooling around around you two, look, it's already awake." The other two glance at their most silent companion and friend, his face is stoic but he's fidgeting like a child who knows he's getting desert after dinner but doesn't want to wait that long to eat it.

Noticing that they are still looking at him the silent but stoic man shakes his head swinging his long black ponytail left and right before pointing directly at the thing on the table, even when silent his intentions always seem to get through, as the two stop staring at him and start staring at it.

Suddenly, as all eyes were directed upon it the thing on the table started to thrash about in the Magical Strappings placed on the table. Almost like it knew it couldn't escape it started to horrifically scream, no... neigh, at them. Looking closer one could almost say it was crying, but was utterly ridiculous.

Whatever had happened to upset the new life form the men knew they needed to calm it down, so they did what anyone would do. They walked slowly, non-threateningly, into its' view (but he could swear the only thing that accomplished was upsetting it more) stopping at the very edge of the table. There was no hesitating when it came to deciding who would calm it, after all they'd planed out this project thoughly.

The snarky, brown haired man reached out to touch the newly created Magical Beast, he stroked it gently on the cheek and cooed at it as if it were a baby (which it technically was). As he continued to pet the Magical Beast he took note of its' size and shape. The Beast was about as large as a horse, and instead of fur like a normal horse would have it had scales, orange in color, although there was some fur or rather a red mane around its' neck and then some red fur also on tip of its' tail. A little horn was also coming out of its' head but it was small, weak looking, like it break if not careful. There weren't any claws, only hoofs he didn't look to see what kind of teeth he knew they'd find that out later, if it ate meat or vegetables ... or both.

Its' breathing turned erratic as his mind wondered, quickly he towards the the others for help. They couldn't let it die from lack of air due to its' unfounded fear of them. The others understood without words as they grabbed a clothe and a bottle from underneath the table (they'd thought about things like this a lot so the three of them sort of turned the entire house into a 'keep it alive' house) they poured the contents inside the bottle onto the clothe and carefully put it over new borns' nose and mouth, waiting for it to pass out. It did not take long for it to go to sleep under the clothes influence.

Taking the clothe away from its' nose and mouth the blonde man spoke up, "It's not very brave is it..."

Scowling at the blonde, a reply erupted from the mouth of the brown haired man, who had just been petting the creature moments ago, " that's pretty damn obvious, isn't it!"

A loud clap silenced the two of them. The man with the black ponytail gave them both disapproving looks.

"Sorry," said the blonde haired man.

"Me too, " added the brown haired man.

The room fell quite.

"...so," the blonde man said, "what are we going to do now. I mean, showing it off to others right now will in all likely hood, cause its' death...so.."

The brown haired man shrugged, he was great with animals and Magical Beast but that didn't mean you just change their temperament. If it was a coward, then it would stay a coward no buts about it.

The silent man with his black ponytail remained quite for a minute more before speaking, "...what if we intergrate it into a Magic Acadamy, put out on loan to the school to be a Familiar."

The two men laughed at first they were going to reject the idea but it came from 'Mr. Silent' so they knew there had to be more to it than that, something they weren't seeing.

Then it hit them:

* if they loaned the creature out then they'd have to tell the world about there successes, and their funders would see and they would return to funding their projects- check,

* if the the creature was intergrated slowly, like say, by first living with the people who only are from school and/or school grounds (you need permission to enter the school and its' grounds) then there was a better chance the creature would learn not to panic itself to death - check,

* By loaning the very first, and only one of its' kind to the school they would be paid handsomely for it and the school would get more prestige because of the creature and the school may even receive more funding, in turn the school would basically owe them a favor or favors if all went well.

"Agreed," the two said simultaneously, reaching for the phone to call a Magic School.

The silent man snatched the phone away from the two men he thought of as spoiled children and dialed a number. Instantly another voice came through the phone as he fiddled with his black ponytail and made his sales pitch, "that's right, a Chimera....no, it's not a joke. ....I'll, We'll loan it to a Magic School...there is a catch....the temperament....no, no, not like that just cowardly....alright, deal."

He turned to other two who were all but jumping up and down in excitement and said, "The one and only Chimera has been loaned to use as a Familiar in a Magic school."

With the deal done they knew what they had accomplished meant that the creation of Chimera was no longer just an empty dream, it was a reality and one they would gladly take advantage of. If they had created one then what was to stop them from creating more, many, many more......
