4. Emergency!

A bandit attack! How predictable!

Gene knew this would happen. But with everything happening with her new class and the fast levelling up, she forgot to purchase the potions necessary. Thankfully one of the players in the cavern was a healer.

'Hope she can keep up.' Gene prayed as the caravan was brought to a halt. Through the small window, she could see the cut-down tree blocking the road. Too generic! Ten to twelve people walked out of the forest surrounding the caravan, swords out. Since the game NPC's didn't out level the map, she was confident that they could handle the situation. Besides, she wanted to check out her new taunt. And so the few underdogs inside the caravan came out ready to face the enemies that outnumbered them.

"Hand over the valuables." The leader said, but that would be impossible since no one could check others' inventory. Well, not that Gene knew off at least. Clearly, he had no interest in the valuables.

Without bothering to chat with the intruders, the bulky guy among them with the sword charged at one of the closest bandits.

Gene followed through as well. She stood grounded to the floor and crossed her arms in front as if none of them was her match. She even raised her head high to match her appearance!

"Why you…" the first bandit she looked at lost all his senses and attacked her with everything he had.

Thanks to her non-existent defence, the damage was massive. But so was her health pool.

Before the damage even got reflected she had recovered half her health. The reflected damage was too much for any common grade enemy at their level.

One-shot KO!

Massive damage of almost 400 rose above the bandit and crumbled to the floor. The rest of the bandits paused for a second. Even the hot-blooded samurai stopped his attack and stared at the girl who had yet to release her locked arm.

Gene picked her next target. Thanks to the healer present in the group, Gene picked out one bandit after the other. She also noticed a few perks of her skill.

Once she taunted someone they couldn't break off from her taunt. No matter how high the other's damage was, her opponent wanted her dead first.

Sweeping the floor with her reflected damage, she finally lowered her arms and let out a smile. The four others looked at her in awe. Apart from the healer of course. She had already drained all her mana trying to bring Gene to full health. You could already see she wanted to give up.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

"How much health do you have?" The frustrated girl couldn't help but ask. A level ten healer could only heal so much…

"Let it be. My regen should soon kick in." Gene said, trying to comfort the healer girl.

"Your damage was awesome. Are you a mage?" The samurai asked sheathing his sword.

"Yea." Gene didn't know how to explain her situation. So she went with the flow. Technically her skill was similar to magic spell reflect but that shouldn't be able to bounce the melee tacks like her skill.

The other two were quiet from the start. They too were startled seeing the high damage but beyond that, they felt like she was trying to be a show-off. Holding arms and staring at the bandits as if they were beneath her? If that wasn't trying to show off, what was it? They mentally created a wall and chose to stay away from Gene.

The rest of the journey was peaceful apart from the glaring looks her co-travellers gave her. The samurai couldn't stop snooping and kept bothering her with details of her job while the other three kept mostly to themselves.

They disbanded the caravan at the outskirts of the city. Samurai and the healer girl seemed to be a pair as they went their separate ways. The two others immediately disappeared without even greeting Gene. Alone she headed for the inner gates. For her, the first place to visit was the auction house and then the adventures' quest hall, both of which were in the inner city.

The inner city was heavily guarded as most of the region's money transferred through the place. Each city was the economic headquarters of the neighbouring towns and villages. A city's range of influence could be ascertained from how vast the place is.

The bigger the place the more NPCs the place had. To Gene, this meant more quests and faster levelling. To catch up with the others was extremely hard considering how long the game had run for.

She had enough starter funds to purchase a batch of healing potions. As she watched the large array of weapons available she realised how economically feasible her class was. There was no need to buy a weapon or armour. The more she discovered the more she fell in love with the class.

With the stack of potions in her inventory, she went to the quest hall looking for suitable quests. Unlike the abandoned hall in La-Dalia, the city's hall was bustling with life. The counter had five assistants and there were ten quest boards placed in the hall each with specific quests all sorted out. The least busy board of course had gathering quests.

The gathering quests gave the least amount of experience and hence most players avoided it like plague. It was the same even for Gene. She had already thought this through while stuck in the cavern. Which was the best way to earn more without any killing? And her solution was errand quests. Not only does it give higher experience, but it also helps to build familiarity with the NPCs.

Connections were the most valuable tool in Chaos Realm. It opened up paths that not many had travelled before. Even her current path, the dragon god's faith, was discovered with the help of the NPCs. This didn't mean most players valued the NPC interaction. Had it not been for her current condition, Gene too would have avoided the errand quests. After all, killing quests were still the best and most lucrative. The difference in the number of people crowding in front of the boards clearly showed which was superior in the eyes of the common players.

Walking towards the quest board, Gene eagerly went through the quests posted looking for some that could easily raise her levels. One of the quests easily caught her eyes. The request was from someone she was extremely familiar with.

Wewick. The girl who helped discover the Dragon God's Path.
