It took me a quick second for me to assign my skill point to my strength once again, after all if I kept having more of these fore ant bastards come at me, it would be less daunting if I could squash them all that little bit easier. I stood still momentarily as I focussed on assigning the skill point before my attention firmly fixed on the glowing orange orb, that was apparently a legendary item.
The orb was as magic looking as I could imagine, it looked like some sort of core, like if the sun was condensed into a melon sized item. A glow of energy pulsated on the outer edge and every few seconds it shimmered with a kind of golden light. I had never seen anything like it and I found myself transfixed, like I didn’t want to take my eyes off it in case it vanished. As I approached it a text box appeared beside it offering me more information on the item.
*Sphere Of The Chosen*
*Legendary Item*
*Literally a gift from the gods. If you have stumbled upon this item it means that even they don’t hold much hope for you. This item grants the user the ability to choose their class immediately instead of at level 10. Upon consumption the user will be able to choose their primary class. Not all class options will be offered, so be aware that you may miss out on alternative classes when choosing early. Warning this choice will be permanent and irreversible. Not even respec items will work. This will also immediately grant the user all skill point bonuses associated with their chosen class. Perfect for those low level bottom dwellers that strive to be something more than food for the fire ants.*
Was that a dig at me? Jesus do they really think that I am that incapable. Part of me wanted to boot the magical orb into the stratosphere and tell the gods to go and fuck themselves but then the other part of me thought if I could get a bit of a boost maybe this world that I have found myself in, might feel a little less dangerous.
‘I will probably be dead soon anyway’ I thought to myself before reaching out for the orb. No sooner than I touched it, the orb began to crackle and speed at a rate I couldn’t begin to comprehend. It popped up in the air like a trip mine and exploded right in front of me, I embraced myself to feel a slam of force against my chest as I shut my eyes and turned my head away as I flinched. There was no force or pain as expected, instead I felt a strange wave of energy run through my core as more text popped up in my vision.
*Class selection unlcoked*
The text came up on the left with a larger box to the right for me to flick through the options.
*Paladin*
*This class will grant the bearer the ability to both handle themselves on the battle field as well as the ability to heal themselves or others through magic.*
*+3 to consitution*
*+2 to streghth*
*+3 to wisdon*
This could be a good option, being able to fight and heal could be the perfect combination to me, the paladin class piqued my interest straight away.
*Ranger*
*A strong connection to nature, channel your magic into harnessing the power of the wilds. The ranger class is best suited to those who prefer ranged combat rather than up close and personal*
*+ 5 to dexterity*
*+2 to wisdom*
*+1 to nature*
As much as fighting from distance sounded safe I couldn’t help but feel that this could mean I would also be weak in certain situations and the thought of being a ranger didn’t appeal to me whatsoever.
*Battle Mage*
*Perfect for those that like to use their magic to cause destruction on the battlefield by channeling their raw power into the weapons that they wield. The battle mage are astute tacticians and make for great leaders of others*
*+3 inteligence*
*+2 streghth*
*+2 constitution*
*+1 Wisdom*
Now this class sounded fun, channeling magic through the weapons that I wield, that sounded pretty badass, leading others in battle though? That filled me with dread at the mere thought.
*Necromancer*
*Not for the faint hearted, the necromancer will harness their dark magic to harvest the souls of those they have destroyed. Reaping souls and controlling the undead, necromancy is frowned upon by pretty much everybody and you will find it difficult to make allies. *
*+4 Inteligence*
*+4 constitution*
The less said about this the better, I was new to this world and even I could tell to stay away from this class. Even the text in the menu was different from the others, I knew in an instant that this class was not for me.
*Berserker*
*You are chaos incarnate, meaning of all the options in front of you, you chose violence. What you lack in magic, you make up for in muscle, making you near enough indestructible. *
*+5 stregth*
*+3 consitution*
*+1 dexterity*
Indestructible eh? This concept made me sit up and listen and when I tool the time to tally up all the bonus stats that each class offers I realised that the berserker class had an extra point attributed to it. As someone who was used to working in data I knew all to well the benefits those one or two extra points could grant you. It is all about the fine margins. Besides the way Fidget spoke about me, maybe it was time that I bulked up and showed people what I could truly be.

My decision made I locked onto the berserker class and a strange vibrating sensation ran up my spine, like a cold shiver. A surge of energy rippled through me and in my menu it said.
*Berserker class unlocked*
*+5 stregth*
*+3 constitution*
*+1 dexterity*
*Overall stats*
*+7 streghth*
*+3 constitution*
*+1 dexterity*
I shut down the menu and looked down at my body, nothing had changed, my appearance remained the same. I felt more confident according to my stats, I definitely felt more durable but other than that I felt no different. Feeling confident I ran at a nearby tree and let out a roar as I charged into it as fast as I could, I had no idea what to expect but surely with that amount of extra strength I would be able to knock a tree down.
I was wrong, and with a blinding flash to my vision, I staggered backwards before falling flat on my back, winding myself once again. Letting out a pained groan I rolled on my side and shook my head, a dull throbbing pain a bit like a migraine teasing the front of my skull.
Well I won’t do that in a hurry any time soon, note to self I can’t knock over trees, no matter how strong I get. Whilst non the ground, looking up at the sky above me the two suns came into focus and the desire to find this mysterious person that Fidget wanted me to find came back to me.
Hopping up from the floor I dusted myself off and set off at speed, feeling as though I had more in the tank I soon understood what the constitution points stood for. Normally I could keep up a steady jog for about ten minutes before needing to take a rest, I wasn’t super fit by any means. But since choosing this class I found I could run that little bit faster, for longer which seemed like a perfect combination to me. It was a strange feeling being able to run at a decent pace yet not gasping for air, skipping through the trees and hopping over logs without breaking a sweat. A far cry from where I was at the start of the day. Wherever that orb came from, I was grateful for it, heck I felt as though I could run like this all day and all night if need be.
I covered so much ground and even though I had no concept of the time here or how long I had running I knew that I had most definitely gained an advantage now that I had a class, every now and then if I saw a fire and I would change my course just sop I could stamp on the prickly bastards and show them who was boss. Each time gaining some experience points but what I quickly figured was now I was level two and they were level one, the experience I was receiving was minimal.
One thing that did run through my mind was, what I would give to bump into Jerry while I was feeling like this, I had never felt so good and I didn’t want it to end.
Fuck you Jerry.
Although I couldn’t run for ever, what was clear was I had a reserve of stamina that I had never experienced before, hell I even felt energised while I was running, a strange buzz running through me as I continued to run through the dense woodlands.
I had got through a phase in my early to mid twenties where I wanted to try and bulk up and set about getting myself in a good routine with the gym, food and diet had never been an issue with me but naturally my frame was built for long distance running, I just couldn’t run for shit. Until now anyway. After hitting the gym for a couple of years to try and gain some muscle it was to no avail, at best my shoulders and chest became more of an average build than scrawny but no matter how hard I tried at it, I just couldn’t get it to work, and I never once left the gym with that feel good feeling I had been told by so many you get after a good train session. I would just leave, tired and fatigued and when I didn’t see the results that I wanted I just stopped.
When I could feel myself fatiguing I finally stopped and I actually felt good about myself and the ground that I had covered, despite still having no clue if I was travelling in the right direction. If anything the trees around me were only getting denser, despite the trees appearing thinner here, there were a lot more of them, meaning even if I wanted to run, the dodging from left to right would only slow me down any way.
As I panted heavily like a dog I slapped my hands on my knees as I bent forward to take in gulps of air, but despite being out of breath I didn’t feel exhausted, I simply felt like I needed a short rest and then I would be able to go again.
It was then that I noticed that the area around me was eerily quiet, I couldn’t feel any breeze against my skin and there were no sounds of wildlife, not even the birds I could here earlier. There was nothing and in that moment, if I could forget the dangers that apparently lie within this forest it was kind of peaceful, except for a feeling that I just couldn’t shake that I was being watched.
Looking around me to my right then my left before doing a full three hundred and sixty degree turn just to check nothing was following me. I figured that I was just being paranoid before I reading my self to set off, looking up at the gaps in the trees once again to try and figure out which way north was.
When I took a couple of steps forward everything changed however when a branch snapped under my foot, it didn’t feel natural and my foot quickly snagged against something. Before I had chance to react or even think my view completely changed as some kind of trap triggered and hooked around my ankle. In the blink of an eye the green of the trees and the brown of the trunks flipped on there head as suddenly I was flipped upside down, my head hanging about six feet in the air. The snare was wrapped tightly around my right ankle, the thin wire digging into my skin, my hip joint felt as though it was about to pop out of its socket, the pressure building was almost as intense as the pressure building in my head. My left leg hung limply and uncomfortably as I flailed around trying to either pull myself free or snap the rope. I tried to sit up and reach the rope but I couldn’t and knowing that shouting for help all I could muster was a frustrated sigh.
The main question was, who had made the trap and where were they. That was a question soon answered when something stepped out from the shadows and moved towards me.
