49. Nothing Personal: 2

A Flash. Icefragmants and splinters, of what once had been the entrance of the house, scratched open his cheek followed by a giant shockwave, throwing him and Githmo down to the floor. The ice-covered floor pressed with scorching cold against his cheek, while smoke filled the air and let Bao squint his eyes.

A silhouette jumped through the thick cloud, a silhouette Bao would recognize the moment he saw it. The giant body with the equally giant sword on its back...

"Moreeell! Watch out for any tamed monsters that could lurk around here, there were Goblins before down there!" Bao screamed at the top of his lungs which ended in heavy coughing.

Not one second too early.

Freed from the heavy bookshelf that blocked their hatch, the first goblins started to appear, blocking the way to the mage. Without faltering, Morell mowed down the first few goblins, as if he was cutting through thin grass with a scythe. Those who tried to surround him or came too near went down with a knife in their head.

First, his fingers, then his arms and legs; Bao could move them again since the ice broke when he fell down like a statue. Even though his clothes were still a bit stiff he could get back on his feet.

The smoke that had filled the room cleared up showing Bao the full extent of the chaos that reigned at that moment. Morell fought against a never-ending current of goblins flowing out of the hole on the floor while Nathan backed him up from outside of the house, throwing knives and shooting bolts through the destroyed house entrance. From inside a small room with a broken door hanging only on one hinge, shone a violet shimmer.

"Shit, don't let him cast another spell!" Screamed Bao, as the only person besides Githmo who had an overview of the situation.

Nathan, who heard Bao's call, shifted his aim towards the room in which Githmo was blasted in by the shockwave. But every time a knife or bolt flew in that direction a goblin sacrificed himself by jumping right into the line of fire to save his master.

"David! You need to stop him! Morell is busy holding those damn goblins at bay and my shots are all being blocked by them!"

He didn't know how but he knew he had no choice if he wanted to get out of there alive. Without a weapon in his hand he ran. He ran right towards the violet light that grew stronger with every step he took. When the light became so bright that he needed to put his hands up in order to not get dazzled, Bao knew he had arrived.

An incomprehensible gibberish could be heard coming from around the corner and even though Bao couldn't understand anything, all of his senses warned him to not approach the source of both, the gibberish and light.

"Get dooown!" The last thing Bao said before a giant purple ray about as big as half of his height cleaved the scene in half.

Destroying the remaining bits of the already blown up wall, the ray continued to plunge through the houses on the other side of the street. Bao couldn't assess the size of the damage given the wide range of the attack but what he could see was that it passed right through half of his companion Nathan's body, who just collapsed to the floor.

"Nooo! Gi... Giiithmooo! Youuuuu bastaaard!" Bao jumped around the corner into the room, which was nothing less than a pantry, took the first thing he could grab and threw it in the direction of the mage.

"Ha! Do you want to kill me with an apple?" Githmo mocked him evading it with ease.

"Aaaagh" Bao screamed in agony and rage storming forward right towards Githmo, whilst throwing everything he could lay his hands on.

The mage shocked that his attacker didn't stop upon seeing the three small light bulbs around his staff, cast them in Bao's direction.

All three of them pierced right through a leg, shoulder and somewhere on his waist.

The white of Bao's eyes could be seen as he just screamed even louder and continued on his rampage towards Githmo who by now had reached the end of the room and stood with his back to a wall.

Bao ducked under a desperate swing from the mage's staff and landed his fist on Githmo's chin, who then landed on his butt from the impact.

But Bao had long since lost all common sense and once again grabbed the nearest item, a cheese wheel, and started smashing it on Githmo's face until Morell dragged him away from the lifeless body of the mage.

"Nothing personal Githmo," Bao said, his eyes turned back to their normal form.
