The Sky

Chapter 9

The Sky

The horizon churned in chaos as Vance Malcolm and the Shadow Knight plummeted through an endless void, locked in a savage ballet of combat. The wind howled like a beast, roaring past their ears as Vance spun mid-air, delivering a brutal punch to the Shadow Knight’s jaw. The blow sent the knight spiraling, his balance faltering. Before he could recover, Vance surged forward, driving his knee into the Shadow Knight’s temple. Blood spiraled into the turbulent sky as the knight’s body twisted backward, limp and unconscious.

Seizing the moment, Vance grabbed the knight’s falling blade. With a sharp, calculated motion, he hurled it toward the knight’s chest. But just as the weapon neared its mark, the Shadow Knight’s eyes snapped open. Reflexes sharp as ever, he caught the blade mid-air and flung it back toward Vance.

The blade whistled through the air like a deadly specter. Vance twisted effortlessly, the weapon grazing past him by mere inches. No sooner had he evaded the strike than the Shadow Knight closed the distance between them, fists blazing like sledgehammers. Each blow landed with the force of a storm, shaking Vance’s frame.

Gritting his teeth, Vance fought to regain control, shoving himself backward to create space. He let out a guttural scream, a primal roar that reverberated through the chaotic sky. The Shadow Knight lunged again, unrelenting, but before he could reach Vance, a blinding flash split the heavens.

A thunderbolt struck with deafening force, slamming into the Shadow Knight and sending him hurtling downward. A heartbeat later, Vance followed, both men crashing onto the deck of a lone ship adrift in a raging, uncontrollable storm.

The ship heaved and groaned under the weight of the tempest. Rain lashed the deck, the sea roaring like a living beast. Both combatants rose to their feet, their silhouettes stark against the storm-lit darkness.

The Shadow Knight gripped his blade, its edge gleaming with the promise of death. Vance glanced around, his eyes landing on a weathered sword lodged in a barrel nearby. He yanked it free, the steel hissing as it slid from its resting place.

For a moment, the storm seemed to pause, holding its breath as the two warriors squared off. Without a word, they charged, blades gleaming and wills unbroken, rushing headlong into a battle destined to end in blood.
