Chapter 5
The laudanum
The scene opens with Shadow Knight standing tall against Joseph Marathan, the tension between the two palpable. The faint glow of Joseph's cigarette casts a sinister light over his face, smoke curling around him like an ominous veil. Their confrontation is wordless, but their presence radiates the promise of destruction. The camera shifts to a passage of time, cutting to five months later.
Two factions now dominate the city, each vying for control of the streets. Vance Malcolm commands his gang of ruthless criminals—thieves, killers, and mercenaries, bonded by greed and chaos. On the other side stands the Shadow Knight, his group composed of those he has saved, individuals who owe their lives to him and have pledged loyalty out of gratitude and fear.
The city is caught in a storm of violence, with blood staining every corner. Each massacre raises the stakes, a twisted game where survival is the prize. But Vance Malcolm’s forces begin to falter under the relentless assault of the Shadow Knight. Morale dwindles; losses mount. Every time Vance’s gang strikes, the Shadow Knight retaliates with brutal precision, leaving their dead in the streets as a message.
Desperation gnaws at Vance, and Joseph Marathan, ever the manipulator, steps in with a sinister solution. He offers Vance a vial containing a powerful drug—laudanum, infamous during the 1800s for its mind-altering effects. “Take it,” Joseph says with a smirk, lighting another cigarette. “You need to see the world differently to win this war.”

Vance, driven to the edge of insanity by his losses, downs the drug. The effect is immediate and overwhelming. His vision warps, and the grandeur of his mansion melts into a vast, oppressive forest. The shadows twist unnaturally, whispering incoherent words in his ears. At first, Vance is amused. His laughter echoes through the hallucinated woods, growing louder and more unhinged.
But his laughter abruptly stops when a figure emerges from the darkness. The Shadow Knight, cloaked in black, looms larger than life, his blade glinting with an otherworldly glow. Vance’s amusement turns to terror as the Shadow Knight’s eyes burn with hatred.
Vance bolts, his feet pounding against the forest floor. The chase is relentless, with the Shadow Knight pursuing him like a predator hunting its prey. The trees seem to close in on Vance, their twisted branches clawing at him as he runs. He trips and falls repeatedly, bloodied and frantic, his screams swallowed by the oppressive silence of the forest.
Suddenly, the chase ends as Vance finds himself cornered. He turns to face the Shadow Knight, his chest heaving, his eyes wild with fear. The towering figure steps closer, each footfall resonating like thunder in Vance’s mind.
There is no mercy in the Shadow Knight’s gaze.
With a slow, deliberate motion, the Shadow Knight unsheathes his blade. The forest seems to darken, the shadows writhing as if alive. The first strike is swift, slicing across Vance’s chest. He screams, but the sound is muffled, as if the forest itself refuses to acknowledge his pain.
The second strike comes with more force, carving into Vance’s shoulder. Blood sprays across the shadowed trees, and the ground beneath him is soaked in crimson. The Shadow Knight’s movements are methodical, each swing of his blade delivering punishment for Vance’s crimes.
Vance falls to his knees, his strength drained. He looks up at the Shadow Knight, his vision blurring. “You... can’t kill me,” he gasps.
The Shadow Knight says nothing, but his silence speaks volumes. He raises his blade for the final blow, "ITS THE END" then shadow knight attack and...
