“Wild healer? Not what I was expecting but we could definitely do with more healers willing to head out. Usually once a village is established healers end up staying on with the local guard, becoming settled into the new community. Part of why it pays so well, ” Following Captain Raz through the training grounds and listening to his explanation made a few things click into place, as well as understanding combat classes are fairly rare in smaller villages which is why he was personally taking care of my testing.
As we stepped off the sandy ground filling the outdoor training area and into one of the smaller stone areas I realised it also had no ceiling but had thick stone walls and a stone floor. “Combat classes during testing can be unpredictable, most guard training grounds will have a room like this for testing. We will be using a mana stone for testing. When you grab it you should be able to pull some of its mana into your skill fairly instinctively. Once that happens you're going to get a rush of information on how to use your skill. When you obtain this I want you to share the screen it produces with me, as this will be the key part of our assessment.”
As Raz started to grab out a small green stone from a box near the door I realised just what he was implying.
“Hang on, sorry, did you just say this will unlock my personal status and mana?”.
“Of course, how do you think we did it before we worked out how to make class cards? Mana stones form naturally, and under duress you can unveil your own core card, we just smooth the process these days, now grab this, take your time reading the screen but as soon as it pops up think about pushing it over to me and that should give me a copy to note down” with the last word he passed the stone over and pulled out a small pocket notebook. Looking at the stone I noticed how unnaturally uniform its colour was, it looked too perfect to even be man made, and suddenly I felt a warm flow seeping into my hand from where I was holding the stone.

Name: Styx Alforde Core Card: Phoenix Flames (Level 1) Class Card: None Core Level 1 Health 20/20 Mana 10/10 Skills:
* Phoenix immolation: Heals injury at a base cost of 10 mana. Cost increases due to both severity of injury and age of injury. Unable to restore lost body parts if bone is no longer present in the limb. Able to restore scar tissue, but cannot remove natural imperfections/marks. Only works on physical wounds.
“Not bad, the physical wounds limitation is the only real drawback, it means you have nothing for toxins or poison. But those are usually for herbalists to handle anyway, the ability to remove scars will make you popular with the guards while your training as usually the wait list for healers with abilities like that are quite long” As he spoke Raz was filling out a larger form he had folded up in one of his coat pockets “This is your formal offer, you meet the requirements so if you want to accept you can fill this out, give it to me, then be back here by dinner to get you're class card and room sorted. Then you will spend a week here training in some basics before they sort out how they want to train you up from there”
As soon as he passed the form over I had it filled out and ready, this was a chance to explore the world and gain some experiences before deciding what I wanted from life. Now time to handle my first real challenge as a combatant, telling my mother I was leaving and eventually traversing the wilds.
