Chapter 29: Quest turn in

Having not found Bren at my cave I had gone looking at his hut, with him having used his earth manipulation to make a small hut of dirt shortly after arriving, then the eating space before finally finding him raising stone walls and support beams between them while two people watched.

“Bren, finally ready to come see the cave finished?” walking up I recognised Dart, one of the hunters and the builder were both getting some wooden planks stacked up next to the newly raised walls together.

“Hey Styx, sorry I have been helping put up some stone buildings. Mircha decided my control was fine tuned enough now to build more long term stuff for the settlement, so we are trying to get everyone into some more weather resistant housing. Let me wrap this one up and we can go do your cave before dinner?”. Nodding my ascent I sat down with Ember in my lap to watch the final touches, I had seen a couple of stone houses on the way over but hadn’t really clicked that it had to have been Bren building them.

“Your actual crafting class is Fletcher, right Dart?” As soon as Bren got the affirmative he started gesturing towards the house. As I watched windows opened up in the walls, the doorway had a proper edging rise out of the stone, and all over the building on the edging along the roof, door and window ways, and where it touched the ground little detailed images of arrows in flight formed almost like they were being revealed as already existing dents in the stone.

Once he was done the house looked strange, but it definitely made it clear a Fletcher or someone related to the trade lived here. “Right, that is my part done, you guys are right with the rest yeah?”. Getting the all good Bren came over, and together we went to the cave.

“So, my founders quest is almost done, including your cave considered my assistance and maybe a few more houses I should have my founders title, access, and perks. You're excited to finish yours” Setting Ember down and grabbing out the last mana gem I considered his question.

“Honestly yes, very, but mostly because it feels like once it's done I will actually be the one in charge of healers for our settlement rather than just the person Mircha found who could heal things reasonably well and not die easily. I still haven’t considered too deeply how I want healers to operate here long term, but we are years away from it mattered anyway. So, let's do this”

Slotting the gem into the socket inside a sconce, I suddenly felt the mana in the entire cave flowing. Just a rapid intake into each of the gems before pouring out with a heat to it I hadn’t really experienced in mana before outside of my own body.

Looking around the stone was melting and reforming on the surface into a motif of phoenixes, and some more abstract designs of flames and feathers. The entire back wall now had a flame pattern along the bottom, with smoke coming off it turning into feathers, or maybe the feathers were just floating through the smoke. This then formed into images higher up of people with similar tattoos to my own arm, and higher up Phoenixes flying across the top. Looking up the entire roof was now covered in an oscillating pattern of feathers that almost perfectly matched my arm tattoo as well.

New building founded: Cave of Yosh’s healing flame.

Prompts started rolling in, and I held up a hand to Bren to silence the questions. “Before I go through the far to many system prompts demanding my attention, no I didn’t know it would be this insane, Yosh is the hatchling mark my tattoo represents so that is where the name comes from, and any other questions I don’t know yet so I am going to sit on the floor here and read”

Smiling, I opened the settlement menu to see where we were up to, seeing how developed the settlement gave me a strong desire to push the numbers up if only to see how high it could go. I knew cities were a high tier, like the fifth or sixth, but seeing we were only the first meant we had plenty of progress to be made yet.

Settlement name: Horusum Settlement Tier: Established Camp Population: 26 Bonuses: - Reduced spawn in covered area from settlement core Requirements for Next Tier (Village):

- 10 permanent buildings (7/10)

- 4 Founders quests completed (4/4)

- 2 Common or above grade resources (2/2 (Druidic farm, Cave of Yosh’s healing flame)

Seeing both Graves farm and my cave listed as resources I wondered why if it was similar to my cave why I hadn’t noticed any unusual mana. Resolving to ask him soon I also noticed the population was higher than I thought it would be, I knew the odd person was moving here but it was still a couple more than I thought we had. Smiling I knew Bren would be excited to hear that we were close to qualifying as a village, and that he could help clear that off with building the houses he had already started on.
