Interlude Xi Shu and the Monkey King

Xi Shu

June 20th, 2028, Mt. Huaguo, Inner Mongolia

Upon waking up in Wu’s “Weed Grotto”, I went to find my new master. I found him inside the small house smoking out of a rather long pipe that looked like it was made of glowing crystal. I was actually, kind of shocked that such a venerated character would be doing drugs. “Hello, Wu? Are you busy or can I ask you a few more questions?” I asked.

“I suggest you get some food and smoke some of this wizard weed so we can get started with your training.” Wu responded.

“That was actually something I wanted to ask you about, I’ve spent my whole life, refraining from putting impurities into my body in order to make sure I am at the peak of human performance. Now you’re telling me I should smoke the weed to become more intelligent and it will help with my longevity, Aether circulation, memory, and reflexes?” I asked unconvinced.

“Young Shu, the whole Draco empire has outlawed all mind advancing substances. If you had access to Aether imbued Cannabis, your species would have seen through the Draco Empires illusion and revolted hundreds of thousands of years ago. In fact, that very thing has happened here on Terra four or five times that I know of. Usually resulting a mass extinction level event caused by the Draco.” Wu said, and went on to say, “The speed at which your advancement progresses with the use of mind advancing substances like cannabis will be exponential. And the effect is also quite nice, and the benefits are infinite.”

After that conversation we smoked three glowing marijuana spliffs and must have smoked two or three pipes full and then we ate, we ate so much food. I must say BBQ pork, rice, and steamed vegetables never tasted so good in my life. We then sat and meditated for what felt like about an hour or so but turned out to be closer to 12 hours. After I cleaned myself up and changed my clothes again, then went to the grotto to begin training with the Chinese folk god.

Wu and I trained for hours, we worked using my Aether pool to imbue Aether into my swords, and how to circulate Aether into my limbs while fighting to increase the effectiveness and power of my strikes. I would usually wake up around 5am then we would smoke copious amounts of masters Wu’s wacky weed, have breakfast, meditate for a few (6) hours, and then we would train all day until 10pm and then we would retire to the cottage and smoke ourselves into a food frenzy and then gorge on amazing food that always seemed to be ready for us. I was getting much better at channeling the Aether into specific parts of my body while sparing with Wu, I was getting to the point where my arm would make contact about 6 inches early, due to Aether Fist, wrapped around my fist, foot, elbow, knee, sword, etc. The power was getting nearly an additional 100%. It went on like this for what felt like about three months, then one day Wu asked me to continue to meditate while he evaluated my progress. After 3 months of training, eating, and smoking I gained 16 points in strength, constitution, and agility, 14 points in luck & dexterity, 8 points in perception, intel, and wisdom.

6:00am:After five Terran days or 120 days in the time dilated space I had learned to do things that I was sure were impossible, for instance I learned how to literally throw balls of charged Aether that exploded on impact. I honed my martial arts prowess to a level I have not seen exhibited outside of the movies. I was capable of moving with such grace and control I could run along the top of water and jump over 30 feet high. The first is an Aether manipulation technique called Aether Artillery and the second is just due to my high Constitution and Agility and a spell I learned call Aetheric Aura which allows me to surround myself in charged Aether using it to make myself faster, stronger, able to shield myself from attack , and achieve amazing feats of physical prowess. Master Wu has given me a number of other locations around the world I should visit via the intergalactic teleport system, some are operational others are not. I am being directed to Beijing, where Master Wu has explained that the XIA armory is located there. He went on to tell me that there are a number of priceless and extraordinary artifacts in the armory which will aid me in my journey. I asked if I should start looking for the Rinns or the Russian women from my dreams. Master Wu told me to follow my path to Beijing, collect the things I would need to advance through the coming tribulation, which starts today. Saying goodbye was more difficult than I had anticipated.

“Master Wu, I cannot begin to thank you enough for the guidance, wisdom, and instruction. I have learned much, improved in ways I would have previously thought impossible. You have truly put me on a sturdier path. You’ve given me the knowledge necessary to become more and enable me to help defend this planet I call home.” I said with respect.

“Master Shu, young man, you are every bit a Master. You will need to go to Japan and study with Miyamoto Musashi, you will find him on the island of Okinawa, he is the only Swordsman to reach a level over 500 in Swordsman I know of on this planet, well, the only human one.

I’m sure the Drow, the Orkanish, the High Elves, and the Draco all have Grandmasters, but I don’t think any of them are on Terra…….yet. Master Shu, it has been an honor to train with you and if you ever find yourself in need of a safe harbor, know you are always welcome here. Now, please come over here to the teleport array and attune your genetic code to this location and no one else will be able access this training hall without your permission.” After a small prick to my fingertips, I was the only person allowed to teleport into Wu’s domain. “Master, Wu? Do you think I could bring some of the glowing meditation weed?” I asked with a large smile on my face. “Of course, Master Shu, you would be doing yourself a great dis-service if you did not. Though, I have a feeling you will be soon meeting up with someone who will be able to help you in that department. I put a kilo into a spatial ring this morning, that should last you till you meet up with Mr. Derrik.” Wu chuckled. “Thank you once again, Master Wu.” “Until next time Master Shu.” With that I took my leave. Unfortunately, the teleporter to the Forbidden City was not active from this location, so I was going to go directly to Okinawa to meet with Grand Master Musashi as that array was operational.

(DAY ONE OF TRIBULATION)

2:00pm: Strangely enough the teleport array on the Okinawa side was outside of the training hall, just 30 feet away. Which is enough room for a giant blue Oni, and a large white tiger to be fighting to the death.

“Don’t mind me. I’ll just get out of your way and move along.” I said to the now still and focused on me battling duo. As the words left my mouth the tiger jumped at the opening and slashed at the blue ogre’s throat with its enormous and razor-sharp claws. The ogre was not fast enough to dodge and took the majority of the blow on the face and throat. He spun around with amazing speed and grabbed the tiger by the tail and threw it across the river we were standing nearby. As he turned around to look my way, he was met with my sword slashing across his chest and then kicked with uncanny speed and strength directly in the chest knocking the Oni, across the same river the tiger had just flown over. I made my way across the river in a split second and resumed my attack on the ugly blue ogre. As it was standing up, I came down on its shoulder with all of my might and an extremely sharp Jian using the ELEMENTAL CHARGE, I imbued the sword with Aether, and it cut through the ogre like a hot knife through butter. I pulled it out and swung back around the other way and caught it in the right hip and sheared off its right leg, kicked it aside and stabbed back and up into the hideous beasts’ throat, finishing the motion. As I pulled the sword from its throat, it sprayed me in warm foul stinking black blood. (+550 experience) floated into my vision in gold script.

Once I was quite sure it was dead, I went to find the tiger it was battling, after a brief search I found, her. She lay mostly still with a number of ribs sticking out of her side and bleeding profusely. As soon as I lay eyes on her I could hear her in my mind. “Great warrior, I thank you for the assistance. But I fear it is too late for me, you would do me a great honor if you would please take care of my son and heir to my kingdom his name is Byakko, he will grow to become a very powerful and useful ally to you and the others. My only request is that you keep him safe while he is a cub, help him survive the tribulation, allow him to grow into his full potential. If you do these things, please believe, you will have no better friend in your life Byakko will be loyal and will follow you until the end of your days and into the next dimension.” She said softly into my head. “Of course, I will take care of the legendary white tiger cub. It will be an honor to share a life with such a majestic creature. Thank you for doing me this honor, I promise dear mother, I will guard your progeny with my life for the rest of my life. I also understand who he is to become and what his function in this new world will become. I will do my utmost to ensure all of these things occur as they should, the white tiger of the west will live to maturity and rule over his domain once sufficiently prepared to do so. This I vow to you mother tiger.” I replied to the dying tiger laying before me. As I said the words a fluorescent blue light covered me and then covered the dying tiger. I immediately looked at my notifications….

I went ahead and put 10 attribute points into Charisma, 5 points each into Intel, and Wisdom hoping to round out my attributes and with more Wisdom my Aether pool refills faster and with the Intel, my Aether pool gets deeper. I’m sure as I start using more Aether Techniques and spells, these attributes will become more and more important.

I finally finished up and realized I made a vow to the system; I think I might be a little more careful with my words. I found this cute little white tiger cub hiding about a quarter mile from the river. He was just sitting under a giant willow tree crying, for his mother I assumed. As I approached, I took a piece of cooked pork from my backpack and held it out for the crying cub. After a bit of checking me out and sniffing around, he took the meat. He came closer and started smelling me and I think he could smell his mother. That’s when I heard, “W-what happened to my mother? Did that big ugly blue ogre hurt her? Where is she? Tell me, where she is! If you don’t tell me, you will be sorry!!!”

“Easy Byakko. Your mother has gone to the next plane, she has also tasked me with helping you through this world. I am to be your companion and I am to assist you on your journey. I made a vow to your mother, and I intend to uphold it to the best of my ability.” I said to the cub. With that the cub stood up, stopped his whining, and ran towards me and jumped up into my arms. I caught him and brought him close into a hug and said to him, “Little Byakko, I will do everything I can to keep you safe and help you find your path. Your mother will be forever watching over us have no fear, we will all meet up again in the next life.” Byakko nuzzled into my chest, and we walked to go find my newest Master, Miyamoto Musashi.

Byakko actually found the door to the training hall, I was searching for it and the little guy just jumped down and walked up to a stone wall with no seams and just projected the image of a door to me mentally, I walked over to the wall and as I did, the outline of a door about 9 feet high came into existence. We found the handle opened the door and we were immediately under attack.

I opened the door, and we walked through it together, as soon as my eyes adjusted to the light in the room, I was knocked off of my feet and could sense the sword sailing down to meet me in the neck. I rolled to the right and flipped up onto my feet and jumped into the air spinning around with my Jian at the ready. As soon as I landed, I sensed the blade coming at me from behind and spun around and intercepted it and then deflected it to the right opening the attacker up for a front kick to the chest. I kicked the attacker in the chest with an enormous amount of force flipping in the air and striking down with my Jian fully charged with Aether. The attacker took the blow to the chest, knocking him back about 25 feet only to have me bearing down on him with an Aether charged sword. He managed to deflect the sword strike with uncanny grace and elegance, turning my attack against me. He shifted his weight and knocked me across the room into a kitchen full of heavy cast iron pots and pans. I got up with blinding speed and set myself and readied for the next oncoming attack, which did not come.

“HA, HA, HA, HA, Master Shu! You are truly amazing!! I haven’t been touched by an opponent in over 2631 duels! You managed to kick me directly in the chest with enough force to kill a rhino.

I am going to enjoy every minute of your training and will be honored to call you a student, as I am sure I will learn as much from you as you will from me during this process.” Miyamoto beamed with pride. “Master, Musashi, it is I who am honored to have the privilege to study under one of the only human Grandmasters of the way of the sword. Your skill with an edged weapon is un-paralleled in any age, there is no other human, alive or dead who has ever had the skill necessary to best you in combat. I am but a humble monk, I have come to learn all I can from you. Thank you for taking me as a student, and I will thank you for helping me understand the true way of the sword.” I asked then dropped to my knees. “Please stand-up Master Shu, you are probably the worthiest student I’ve ever known of, in any age. This will be as much of a privilege for me as it may be for you. I am alive, and I will take this knowledge we are going to exchange and use it to help defend this planet when the time comes. Most trainers you encounter are but the spirit essence of the keeper of the hall, archive, or armory, but a few of us are still among the living. Thoth, Merlin, Ganesha, Mo Di, Master Wu, John Shastain, Peter Kahn, and I, are all still very much alive, and all of us have been here on Terra for at least 5000 years in Mo Di’s case the rest of us have been here much, much longer, but that is a tale for another day.” I stood up, and that’s when Master Musashi saw Byakko in my arms. “Did you just kick me in the chest, do a back flip, while drawing your sword and striking down at me, while holding a tiger cub in your left hand?” the flustered Master inquired. “Uh, yes master, I guess I did.” I replied.

“Well, this is going to be a very interesting situation we have here. I have examined you and looked at your attributes and your skills / abilities and spells / techniques, I must say that I am impressed at the sheer amount of dedication you must possess in order to achieve the level of mastery you have acquired up to this point. And most of that mastery came before the Aether began to flow once again. You are well versed in Aether circulation and are progressing down that path nicely. You do, however, need a lot of work on your swordsmanship, I am going to provide you with the instruction, you will provide the discipline, hard work, and dedication. Together we will help to create the most well-rounded, fiercest, defender that Terra has ever seen. Are you ready, Master Shu?” My master asked. “That is a lot to live up to, I believe I am up to the task.”

For the next 6 Terran days, which came to 144 days in the time dilated space, I trained with a number of different swords. I started out with my Jian, I have been practicing and using this sword for over twenty years, only to find out that I have so much to learn about this tool still. Master Musashi,

took the time to instruct me on every aspect of the Jian, from how to have a better grip, how to use the tool with more ease and also how to move around the tool with greater ease. I was shocked at the amount of information I did not know about proper swordsmanship. Thankfully, I am a quick study, and with practice and proper training, I soon realized that the sky was the limit.

Once I felt like I had attained a certain level of mastery with one tool we moved on to another. The entire time we trained and sparred, Byakko slept, slept, and ate, by the gods did he eat. There was a food printer in the training hall, that basically works using the ambient Aether and converts that energy into solid, or liquid matter, resulting in food or drink. Byakko has been eating the largest steaks I’ve ever seen, and he is not shy about asking for them.

After the Jian, we moved on to the Japanese short sword, the Kodachi. I had never practiced with a short sword before, it was so versatile, but lacked the reach of my Jian. We worked with that tool for a few weeks until Master Musashi declared that I had an advanced working knowledge of the sword, and he was ready to move on. He then instructed me in the way of the Katana / Wakizashi combination, I was uncomfortable using both tools at once when we started, but at the end of three weeks of non-stop sparing and form training, I felt like the swords were a part of me and I was able to move as such. I continued to train with the Katana and Wakizashi for an additional three weeks, after that I started alternating between the duo and my Jian, I also continued to practice with the Kodachi, week after week, until the 144th day in the time dilated space it happened.
