I didn't know what to expect. I waited for the pain to strike, but it never came. Was I already in the afterlife? I wasn't sure what was happening. I kept my eyes shut tight.
" Ah, finally someone," a voice said, it was a woman's voice. The voice was quiet and dead.
Was this God? Has my time come at last? Clearly, I wasn't alone. Yet, I foolishly believed that if I close my eyes, all of this will turn out to be a bad dream.
" Would you like to open your eyes? It's fine if you are scared. Well then, let's begin..." The voice continued.
Please, would you go away. Let me wake up from this bad dream. I prayed to myself.
" The gods won't answer your prayers"
" What?" I asked in surprise, subconsciously opening my eyes.
" Please ignore what I just said. It looks like our shy fella finally decided to open her eyes." She continued to say in a monotone voice.
I looked toward the voice. It came from a woman sitting behind a large wooden desk. Her body was covered in a long white one-piece dress. Although her face was covered by shadow, her mouth was still visible. It was soft and stoic. I couldn't read her expression at all.
" It appears we have a misunderstanding. You are not dead and welcome to my place." The woman said, her face expressionless, " You are still far from dying.
" I was saying let's begin our introduction first. I'll start. I am Amethyst, named after the semi-precious stone. It's your turn now." The woman said. Her voice sounded tired, as if she hadn't had any rest for a long time.
Stolen novel; please report.
" I'm... uhm... Selene." I replied, I totally messed up my first impression. I guessed I was still scared of this mysterious woman.
" Are you nervous? Your fists are clenching on to your clothes quite tightly. Relax, I won't eat you. Not very assuring from a stranger. Let me tell you what happened to you. You have lost your memory after an accident and were attacked afterward. Am I right?" She said as if she was just reading a boring script.
" How did you know? Who are you?" I was dumbfounded, how does she know all these things?
"That's the first time someone asked me that." She sounded a little bit surprised by the question, she began saying slowly "I'm a demi-god. A creature neither human nor god. I have been used as a tool and was discarded after finishing my task. I am branded as a defective child by the very god who raised me." Before I noticed, Amethyst was already up, sinking her fists into the wooden table, staring at them. She bit the corner of her mouth. She was clearly frustrated.
I crooked my head, I didn't really understand what she just said. Aren't gods supposed to be righteous? But that didn't really matter. I was distracted. With Amethyst standing up, I could finally see her whole face. Her eyes were as dead as her voice, yet her eyes were like a precious jewel. Just by looking at it, I felt like I was staring at the ocean, its colour constantly shifting between blue and dark green. Her skin however was pale white, her hair was shiny silver. One could say she looked like an angel, pure and clean, but all I saw was a woman whose colours were drained, only the blue green eyes were left.
There was a total silence. I was still staring at Amethyst, even if she was pale, I still couldn't deny her overall beauty. Amethyst was looking at her hands. Until suddenly raising her head. Her eyes met mine. For a brief moment I felt like she was reading me like an opened book. I quickly looked away. I felt embarrassed for staring at her. When I looked back at her, Amethyst was standing in front of me. Her face was inches away from mine. I tried to avoid eye contact, but she gently pulled my head toward her. I saw a small blue flame flickering in her eyes before disappearing.
" I'm sorry if I startled you." Amethyst finally let go of me. "Shall we go for a walk. It's time to stretch those legs." Amethyst said playfully, pulling my hand. Her tone changed. I could actually feel that she was relieved. I was curious why but before I could ask her, the room started spinning.
