Chapter 23: Snared Origins Pt.13: A Quest For A Seed Part1/?

Be the flames, not the moth,

Be the ashes in the soil,

Be ablaze, bath in death,

Be the fireflies all around.

Be your fall, your star fall,

Be your fireworks in the vault,

Be your wish and your rebirth,

Be the answers in your dream.

Explained at the end of the chapter.

After leaving the Earthen Spices Swamps and Halloween Town, Sweet and company went towards a long stone road. This was the path that will take them to their next quest. The murky lands changed as they advanced at a constant step. Leaves started to appear on the trees while the grass became taller and greener.

“Since we have decided to go towards the Green-pea Plains, we shall follow this path towards our destination.” Sweet showed the other bunnies the map.

The bunnies continued their walk for about 6 hours, before they arrived to a road full of green colored lamps. It was possible for them to see this because the sun’s time in the sky ended during their spooky ordeal. With the current darkness, the bright lights made them thought they were seeing many rows of organized green fireflies. It was akin to a small highway's lights on the sides, just that the lamps had pea-shaped bulbs.

“Wow! Look at those lamps! Are they made of Green-peas?” Shouted Nick at the beautiful road.

“Yeah, that's why this place has its name. Everything from the grass to all the things we can see, are made of green peas or something from the Great Tree.” Sweet mentioned. The current knowledge was something he obtained after reading some notes left by the elder bunny.

“That's incredible! I didn't know such a place existed!” Nick continued gazing with a happy expression at the visible wonder. The lamps made the bunnies feel warm, as if full of energy. Well, except for Cinna-Buns.

“I don’t like the green color, I like sweet things! I want to go to the Piñata Desert and eat candies!” Cinna-Buns threw a tantrum as if wanting to eat something sweet.

“You ate ice cream! Instead of that, I got to drink two disgusting things… I still feel that aftertaste in my mouth, yuck!” Jasper whined after hearing Cinna-buns comment.

“Guys stop fighting, we need to evaluate our current situation and find how to proceed.” Sweet tried to control the trio of bunnies by calming them.

“This place is too green for me.” Cinna-Buns scoffed.

“Well it isn't called Green Pea plains for nothing.” Jasper followed and then added. “Damn, this place is so big, where are we supposed to stop Sweet?”

“If we look at the map, it shows a gigantic tree in the middle of the Plains. The tree is inside what appears to be a valley. Maybe it should be visible after overcoming this mountain.” Sweet scanned the map while describing their destination to the others.

“A tree? Well, everything here smells like a forest.” Nick asked innocently.

“Yeah, it's supposed to be the place where we have to go. This zone has a city where you can see many windmills. Those that live here used the windmills to pump the water outside of the valley, thus creating a perfect environment for settling. We call it plains thanks to that, but it is actually a big valley that was filled with water once. Well, that’s what the elder's notes mention…” Sweet read a part of the note from the elder. It was a paper that was previously attached to the map when he organized his inventory.

“It’s the aroma of pine.” Cinna-Buns explained to Nick.

“I smell only ‘wet earth and grasses.” Jasper interjected with a grumpy tone. He was in a bad mood after his experience in Halloween Town.

The 4 bunnies continued their walk through the stony road as the surrounding green light of the pea-like orbs surrounded them. They seemed like curious fairies following a natural adorned path.

After ascending the small mountain side, they finally arrived at the valley’s perimeter. From there, the Green-pea Plains where partially visible. The Great Tree was in the center of it, its brown shadowy cupule emerged and combined with the clouds. In the dark, the tree was hard to see were it not for its top, which was adorned by a dim green and orange glow. The whole plains were a mix of green and brown color in the current darkness. It looked as if brown-orange snow was falling down the skies and making the place look like a camo-suit with orange tinges. The flakes falling from the sky were probably released from the big tree in its center. They made a colorful aurora of winds and leaves above its shadow.

“Wow look at that! That’s a Giant Tree in the center, its glowing like magic!” Nick Exclaimed in amusement.

“Wait Nick! Don’t leave the group! We don’t know if there is anything dangerous around.” Cinna-Buns developed some sort of big sister relationship with Nick. She held his little hand and tried to help the bunny with a caring look. She appeared to act mature in the absence of candies.

“Hmph!” Jasper looked at that with a jealous attitude, only he knew what he was thinking.

Sweet and Jasper followed Cinna-Buns as she was being pulled by the smallest bunny’s hands. They knew that Nick wanted to play, and they probably wanted to play too. However, they couldn't express it as openly as him. Sweet had a smiling expression whilst Jasper seemed indecisive about it.

“Nick! Run slower, you are going to make me trip!” Cinna-Buns exclaimed.

“Hahaha! Look guys, this papers are like snow, but they aren’t as cold!” Nick grabbed a bunch of the brown colored leaves and threw them in the air, before remembering about the tree with bigger eyes. “Woah! So cool! Come on Sweet and Jasper, the tree looks awesome!”

Sweet grabbed one of the many falling leaves. The one he caught had a tinge of white and orange. It wasn’t the brown he expected, which was strange. ”This should be the leaves from the giant tree…” He expressed while holding the leaf that resembled a snow crystal.

The small amount of falling brown-orange leaves were quickly followed by a chilling wind. The wind lifted more of them towards the skies creating an incredible scene. This made the bunnies to be mesmerized by the sudden change in environment.

"Woah! Look at that! So many flying paper planes and birdies!" Nick excalimed towards the flying brown crystals in which the light reflected. Being near the small whirlwind, he felt the cold wind invade his little body causing him to sneeze. "AcCHOO!"

Cinna who was holding Nick's hands took a caring measure. "Nick are you okay?"

"So cooollld! Achoo!" He released a gooey snot-fall, which he tried to slurp like a yo-yo.

“You shouldn’t do that Nick. Here, let me wipe it for you.” Cinna cleaned his nose with a small cloth she had in her inventory.

"Damn, how are we supposed to arrive to the tree if it starts to snow?" Questioned Jasper as he felt the cold wind. He gazed at the sneezing Nick with preoccupation.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

"It seems like a cold wind, but the place should be warmer in the morning. So there shouldn't be any problem if we try to continue tomorrow, when the sun rises.” Sweet answered Jasper with a thoughtful look.

"So are you suggesting we should camp here?" Asked Jasper doubtfully.

"Well, it’s the best solution, as we don't have anything to protect ourselves from the cold. We should set a fire and a camp here. We can sleep while we wait for the skies to light. Cinna! Nick! Come here, we are setting camp here for the night." Sweet expressed and called the two far away bunnies.

"Yay, camping!" Nick hopped around while shouting with a runny nose.

"We shouldn’t camp right here. It's dangerous. If it rains or then something happens we could be flash flooded. We should either head to the top of a hill or find a large flat area with downward slopes nearby." Cinna added to Sweet’s idea while catching Nick and cleaning his nose.

"Then what do you suggest Cinna?" Sweet asked.

"Aren't we supposed to go towards the tree in the valley?" Jasper interjected a question and then suggested. "I think we should go a little further and then set camp there."

“Jasper is right. If we go further we might find a better area.” Cinna answered Jasper’s question and approved his suggestion. Sweet decided to follow the idea as they continued forward.

The bunnies descended from their current location in the darkness by following the glowy road with plant-like lamps. They were in search of a place where they could camp, while trying to reduce the distance towards the tree in the middle of the valley. The strange land had become more varied, with many orange leaves in the ground. It also had strange plants which glowed in green and grew in different sizes. These plants made the grass and trees, and they were similar in form when comparing each other. They looked like a recently sprouted plant in between the orange and brown terrain.

A few minutes later, Cinna found one of those plants which was twice as tall as her. It had two large leaves, almost large enough to cover her entirely. She told everyone to stop and muttered. "There are leaves here that can be used to build a shelter; we could also pick some things, and camp here if the terrain is secure."

"We can use the sticks to make a fire. The sticks can also work as support for the shelter" Sweet added.

“Yay! We get to burn things! That sounds fun!” Nick couldn’t hold the idea of having a camp and eating marshmallows.

“Okay, so we should gather some of these strange green branches... Are you sure these will catch fire? Don't we need like a rock or flint?" Jasper went towards the surroundings in a slow pace.

"I will gather those Jasper. Don't worry." Cinna answered the grumpy bunny.

"Cinna do you need me to do something?" Asked Sweet, since Jasper was already collecting the branches in the surroundings.

“Yeah, can you look around this tree and see if the roots are strong. If the earth around it is good, this may be a nice place to set up our camp.” Cinna answered sweet and pointed to the strange plant growing.

"Okay, leave it to me" Sweet went towards the strange green 'tree' that protruded from the leafy ground.

"What should I do Cinna? I want to play as well." Nick murmured towards the female bunny with puppy eyes.

"Nick you stay with me. If we stay together it will keep us warm." Cinna hugged the little bunny and ruffled his hair. She then grabbed his hand and searched for something.

Sweet walked near the green tree. It was curved and looked akin to a bean plant that just sprouted. It had two leaves that spread evenly like two hands towards the sky. Its green stem glowed with a dim green light which seemed to calm his heart. Sweet looked at the place where its roots should be, he scrubbed the orange leaves surrounding the plant and explored. It seemed to be deeply attached to the ground as there were no traces of its roots. He tried pushing its trunk and the thing didn't bulge.

"Cinna, I think this is very sturdy, I seem to remember the elder saying that everything in the Green Pea Plains comes from the Great Tree. Maybe this sprout here is a root or a child from it..." Sweet expressed towards Cinna, she seemed to have forgotten what hentold her once before.

“If this is a root of the great tree. It should be sturdy enough, hardening the ground and making this the perfect place to camp.” Cinna concluded Sweets statement. She was speaking while holding a rock that she just picked from the ground.

"Hey Cinna! I already have ten of these green things in my hands, are that many enough for you?" Jasper's shout arrived across the air.

“You can bring them here Jasper, but we need a lot more to create the tents and a fire.” Cinna answered.

"Okay!" Jasper answered Cinna with a loud shout as he seemed to be getting near.

“Cinna, what are you holding? Are you searching for Rocks?” Nick looked at the rock Cinna held in her hands.

“Yeah, we need some rocks to create a fire and to make our tents.” Cinna Smiled towards Nick and showed him the rock she held.

"Okay Cinna, I'll go for more branches then." Jasper arrived and left the branches he found in the ground. Afterwards, he went to look for more in the dark forest.

"Okay Jasper! Nick if you want you can help me find some rocks like this one. Don't go too far away, kay?" Cinna looked at the little bunny with sparkling eyes after she spoke with Jasper.

"Um!" The little bunny nodded and ran towards the first rock in his vision.

“So Cinna what should I do?” Sweet asked.

“Help me get some of those big leaves, there should be some of them over the ground. We need about 16 or 20 of those.” Cinna explained.

“How big should they be?” Sweet questioned.

“They should be as big as we are, or preferably a bit bigger. Don’t over strain yourself and pick those that you can't carry though.” Cinna elucidated in a calm manner.

“Got it, leave it to me.” Sweet went away searching for the things Cinna requested.

"Look Cinna, is this one the right size?" Nick arrived towards Cinna holding a small rock in his hands.

"A little bit bigger nick. Look, it should be like the size of your hand, see?" Cinna took one rock and made Nick hold it. The little bunny scanned it and went to grab his next treasure. He showed it towards the female bunny while saying. "Like this?"

"Good boy, little bunny. That's the perfect size and texture. Keep it up!" Cinna rubbed his head and gave him a big praise. The little bunny smiled happily and continued to search without going far away from her.

Cinna and Nick continued strolling around the area as they collected more rocks. At the same time, the female bunny wiped the little one’s nose constantly. It seemed that little Nick caught a cold in the current conditions.

“Cinna I got 3 sets of 10 branches, making it a total of 30 for you to use.” Jasper indicated as he organized the branches he brought.

“Cinna, I also finished and brought 20 leaves.” Sweet stood next to a cluster of big and dark green leaves. They seemed darker than the usual shiny ones as if they lost something when they fell.

“Oh! Good work you both!” Cinna approved the other bunnies work and organized the stuff they brought. “After sorting this, we will do a 4 faced tent and a small fire using the rocks, leaves and branches. Please help me organize them by their size or colors, like this…” She instructed the three other bunnies. She needed to make sure the items were organized to separate their use for making the camp.

Cinna stared at the other bunnies' actions as she continued her instruction. “To make tents you need to make a square with 4 sticks, then take 3 sticks and attach them to the other ones to make a second square. Put them like a triangle and then add 2 more sticks. Finally, put some support sticks on the bottom of the tent. With that, we can use the leaves as the covering cloth.”

The other bunnies helped the tent’s construction, they made 3 tents with the collected materials. Following which, Cinna explained how to make a fire.

“For the fire you need to put 'dry' sticks randomly or in a piled pyramidal structure, you need to allow a breathing hole. This decreases the difficulty of lighting. You also put little pieces of leaves lined into the hole you made. Then you make sparks on those leaves which should burn quickly and easily. Hopefully causing the dry sticks to light.” Cinna taught the bunnies as they made the fire.

“Make sure to keep fires away from the shelter, because you don't want the shelter to burn. But not too far from it that the fire doesn't transmit the heat.” Cinna added when looking at the helper’s dutiful work.

They used some wet sticks they found in the surroundings to stab some food and sang a nice tune while they cooked their food. Then, they all went inside the tents for a while. Cinna slept with Nick, Jasper and Sweet slept separated. They took shifts during the night to watch out if anything dangerous happened. This way, they could warn the others with enough time.

It was Sweet’s turn currently, he was seating on a fallen tree’s trunk whilst gazing at the stars and the lonely moon in the sky. There was no way you could measure time in such situation, but it seemed to remain still as if waiting for something to happen. Sweet just stared with an absent minded feeling as everything in the surroundings left a strange sense of stillness.

A sound appeared from behind himself, it sounded like footsteps. It was walking slowly while stepping on the crunchy leaves.

“Sweet, I can’t sleep…” Nick’s figure appeared, he came out of Cinna’s tent walking groggily.

Sweet looked at the little bunny that appeared from nowhere. Doing a slow motion, he stood up from his seating place and asked the little one. “What happened? Are you having nightmares?”

“…” The little bunny looked downwards and nodded towards Sweet with a following ‘Uhm’.

“There, there little guy. There is nothing to fear here.” Sweet casted a magic over the little bunny. It was some cultural dialect in Caramel Falls. Finishing it, he gave some space for the little bunny to seat beside him. “Come here, take a seat with me as we see the stars.”

“Thank you…” Nick seated at Sweet's side as they gazed at the beautiful night over the valley. The giant tree and its ‘children’ made an incredible scene with their shadows. The beautiful leaves and glowing whirlwinds added to the scene.

Time passed slowly and yet, another sound appeared near them. Sweet looked towards the place that the ticks were coming from. He looked at his side and found that Nick was sleeping with drool sliding off his mouth. A big machinery sound boomed across the place, he jumped and Nick got awakened by it.

“Eh!” Nick did a funny shout and looked towards Sweet who was standing after the sound. “What happened Sweet?” He questioned with a sleepy face.

“Wait here, better if you go to the tent and wait for me.” Sweet added.

“But, it's dark… And this tickling sound is scary...” Nick murmured.

“Okay, come with me then.” Sweet let Nick follow him. The little bunny did a fearful ‘Uhm’ sound from behind his back.

The two bunnies advanced slowly as they descended towards the place where the sound came. As they sneaked near the area of the machinery-like noises, they spotted big wheels and windmills that were moving slowly. Lights started to illuminate threads of different colors. The threads reached towards the bigger sprouts and structures. Many of those were towers that resembled Washington’s monument or a needle like shape.

The many strands with their colored dim lights could be seen vibrating in the air. They did a very strange pattern as they descended from the big tree. The picture was akin to a gigantic web that created varying fireworks in the sky. It was a complete experience as the lights turned on just as they arrived near the edifications.

“What is this supposed to be?” Sweet asked. He looked backwards but found… That Nick has disappeared without him even noticing.
