The night after Hendrix visited Noelle, she suddenly heard commotion from the room next door. When she got out of bed, she learned that something had happened to Matilda. Her condition had been unstable since the evening, and now, it had taken a sharp turn for the worse.
Craig had already arrived, whereas Sandra was nowhere to be seen. When he saw Noelle sitting outside the emergency room, he immediately rushed over and grabbed her shoulders.
"How is she?"
Noelle shook her head. "The doctors are still trying to save her."
"How could this happen? She was fine when I left! Did you say something to her that caused her to be upset?"
Craig's emotions were boiling over, and his first reaction was to find someone to take his frustration out
on.
Noelle simply looked at him calmly. "Aren't there cameras in the room? Why don't you check for yourself?"
Her calm response left Craig at a loss for words.
Soon, the door to the emergency room opened, and Craig inmediately rushed forward.
"The patient's condition is... I'm sorry, but we've done everything we can," the doctor said.
Craig's expression instantly dropped. "What do you mean? How could this be? Didn't you say she could
go for the transplant surgery? She already agreed! So, do it now!"
As he spoke, Craig roughly pushed Noelle forward. His strength was immense, causing Noelle to
stumble. It was only when a nearby nurse reached out that she was able to steady herself.
"Sir, please calm down," the doctor said. "We've just conducted a thorough evaluation. Given the patient's
current condition, proceeding with the transplant surgery would likely offer minimal benefit. On the contrary, the transplant's rejection response could exacerbate her suffering. Thus..."
Craig fell silent and collapsed immediately. It was at that moment Noelle realized just how much he had aged recently. It seemed that he truly loved Matilda.
Such feelings should have been deeply moving. In fact, Noelle could see that the medical staff nearby seemed deeply touched and sympathetic to Craig's situation. But as the "product" of their love, Noelle stood there like an outsider, her heart devoid of even the slightest emotions.
It was at this moment that the sound of high heels clicked sharply in the air.
"Dad, is Mom"
Craig looked up, and when he saw Sandra, with her heavy makeup and ultra-short skirt, his expression immediately turned as dark as thunder. Then, without thinking, he slapped her across the face.
"What's wrong with you? How could you still go out drinking and partying at a time like this? Is that not your mother lying in there? I bet you just can't wait for her to dig, huh?"
This was the first time Sandra had ever been slapped. She stood frozen in place, and her face turned pale after hearing Craig's last two sentences.
"No, Dad. I-"noveldrama
"I don't want to see you right now!" Craig spat out those words and walked off, his body hunched and his steps. unsteady.
Sandra clenched her fists and then finally decided to go help him. But as soon as her hand touched him, he shoved it away. Her eyes immediately filled with tears.
She then turned her head, only to see Noelle standing nearby. It was as if Noelle were nothing more than an emotionless spectator, watching the entire scene unfold.
Sandra stormed up to her. "It's you, isn't it? You're the one who has been turning Dad against me. It's all your fault Mom ended up this way! If you hadn't stubbornly refused before, her surgery could have been done already. She would be healthy and well now! This is all your fault!"
