Chapter 19

Tyr got out and pulled the boat ashore before helping Thoth to his feet. They walked in silence for about an hour before Tyr saw a building in the distance.

"Do you see that large hall there Thoth?"

"Nope, which means it's Utgard-Loki's place. This is where we part ways but first take this dagger Tyr, but never draw it no matter the costs. Also, hold off revealing that you are unaffected by the illusions. Walk around the building a few times slowly getting closer. Otherwise, Utgard-Loki will kill Ivaldi before you can free him."

Upon saying this Thoth turned around and walked away, acting as though Tyr was not even there. Tyr merely shrugged and followed Thoth's advice, walking in circles around the hall, slowly getting closer for several hours until he noticed out of the corner of his eye three giants approaching him.

Should I act like I see them or not? Who would have thought that there was a downside to not being able to see illusions.

"Ho there Aesir! why do you wander these fields so late in the day?"

"Greetings Jotun, could you perhaps point me to the house of Utgard-Loki, I have business with him." Said Tyr trying to decide if he should feign being shocked or not. The smallest of the three giants was taller than Tyr by half his height, and were looking at each other and smirking, like they expected some fun to happen soon.

"Well, our jarl is always welcome to have an Aesir as a guest. Come with us little one, though perhaps you should watch your feet, so you don't trip along the way." chuckled the giants, beginning to walk behind Tyr, one even going so far as to force Tyr's head when he began to walk towards the hall.

Mimir suggested that the Jotun a hierarchy based on size, so I guess they are acting in a way they think is appropriate to me. I'll keep myself in check for now so long as there is no attempt of harm.

Tyr walked towards the hall, attempting to keep himself from revealing he knew where they were going or lashing out in anger at the giants who were enjoying forcing his head down and pushing him forward.

Once through the doors, the giants moved further away from Tyr, and he was able to lift his head. The air had a slight scent of some sort of spice unknown to him, and the large bonfire burned ahead of him in what he assumed was the middle of the room. On either side of the hall were Jotun of different sizes and shapes, some even looking to Tyr's eyes like beings he heard about in other mythologies.

"Eyes forward Jarl Tyr, especially as you approach." A voice boomed beyond the bonfire. Tyr turned his eyes forward, and then slowly began to look up... and up... and up... until he saw a face stooping near the bonfire.

Utgard-Loki was described as being as big as a mountain and his boot was mistaken as a cave by Thor and his companions in the dark. Yet somehow, I find myself shocked at how big he is in person.

Tyr then straightened himself before bowing at his waist towards Utgard-Loki.

"Greetings and peace be with you, Utgard-Loki, one of the great Jotun kings of our age."

"Do you truly wish peace with me Aesir? do you think I am not aware as to why you are here?"

"I currently have no reason to wish ill upon you Utgard-Loki. As to why I am here, you have no doubt been counting the hours to this day with only the question of who would be sent. Yet for the sake of clarification, I will state outright: I have come for the release of Ivaldi and any other prisoners you are holding here."

"And how will you try to do that?" A voice scoffed behind Tyr.

" I will at first try asking: May I be given Ivaldi and the others?"

Much of the hall began to laugh at this, except for Utgard-Loki, who simply gestured for Tyr to come forward.

"Many Aesir would rather demand than ask from those they had made enemies of, yet you remain calm through all this. I must ponder as the best course of action is in dealing with you. stay here for the night and tomorrow I will deal with you."

The hall grew silent as Utgard-Loki stopped speaking, and a smaller female Jotun, nearly the size of Tyr, was brought to show him to a place to sleep.
