CHP 9. Nobody and Upgrades

“There you go, all set” Iz says to me after handing me my last Item.

“Thanks a bunch,” I say to her.

While I was waiting, I went out and did some grinding, but was unable to get a level in such a short time.

“The pleasures all mine, I actually managed to get to crafting 13 because of that Glaive.” she says with a smile.

After making the spear quiver, there was enough condensed deep leftover to make something else, and due the way the pike turned out, I wanted something that would have more slicing power, so I asked to to make some kind of glaive with the leftovers.

The pike looked like a long, sleek, red rod that tapered off into a triangular pyramid type point. It was the perfect piercing weapon.

Bloodletting Pike: +15 str and afflicts bleed status on critical hits.

It was perfect for killing those slimes, alongside being a great weapon in general and perfect for being my secondary weapon, instead of the beginners spear, after this dungeon.

By secondary weapon, I am referring to my thread skill. What I learned is that I can wrap the threads around objects, and move them around at a very fast speed thanks to my high AGI. I can grab the pike with my threads and shoot it around very fast. It's perfect because of how well suited it is to piercing, so I don't have to have fine control of my threads to be able to swing it around in a complicated manner. For now I can just push it forward very fast and be just as, if not more effective than using it with my hands.

It doesn’t give me the stat boost this way, but I can still use its ability, which is what I wanted anyway.

I can just grab it with my threads out of my new spear quiver and use it as needed.

Speaking of my new quiver.

Quickdraw Spear Quiver: Can store up to 20 Spears and Spear subtypes at a time, allows for quick draw off back. (Currently holding Beginner’s spear, Bloodletting Pike, and Bang Glaive)

Pretty neat right? It looked like a larger, wider leather belt quiver, but with two straps that let me carry it like a backpack. It was definitely worth using up most of the condensed deep on it. I think my favorite thing about it is that it shows the poles of the specific individual weapons in the quiver, because it soothes my greed to see the awesome weapons.

That last name in the tooltip for the quiver was the glaive that I had Iz make for me with the excess condensed deep. The Bang Glaive.

Bang Glaive: +30 str and extend skill

Extend: The weapon can gain around an extra 2 meters in length.

(A/N: If anyone gets that reference let me know, I would be very surprised.)

Its shaft was a red wood, and it had an embellished golden butt cap and blade with images of dragons on the sides. Around the area where the shaft and blade met, there was a bright red tassel that ended in a Japanese square knot.

The whole thing looked like a very fancy, Chinese inspired, polearm scimitar glaive.

It was the perfect slashing weapon, and thanks to its ability, it would be even more effective with my insanely high attack speed.

Mid-swing I could extend its length to truly insane amounts and do crazy damage because of all the extra momentum on the edge.

After looking at all my items, I expressed my extreme gratitude to Iz and left her shop.

‘I suppose I should go get some practice with these new weapons before meeting up with the grave keeper at the mountains’

So I once more head out into the forest looking for more things to kill.

‘Alright, these will do.’ I while looking at a group of approximately 8 of those large bee things.

I rush closer to one of them with my new pike poised to skewer straight through it.

However it seems I have failed to account for just how much longer the pike is compared to my previous spear, now being a little less than a half a meter taller than me, and it skewers straight through the large bee and the one beside it.

Double kill I guess.

I swing them off the pike to the side of me, ready my spear once more, and nail another one, killing it too.

I’m on a roll

At this point the bees have aggro’d on me and are coming to get me, so I back up a couple steps, shift the hand that's lower on the shaft further up, and swing the pike around to smack one of them out of the air.

I then pivot by taking another step back and quickly stab at bees 4 and 5, killing them both.

I move around to put myself in front of the bees that are still flying, with the one on the ground behind me.

I rush forward, skewering one of the bees, and without throwing it off, I slap the other bee onto the ground like I did the first time.

I rid my pike of the bee that it is stabbed through, and walk over to the fallen bees, stabbing and killing them.

Killtacular!

Hey, that's pretty good.

*Skill acquired - War lust: When you kill an enemy, gain a 10% boost to your base stats, lasting 10 seconds. If you kill another enemy during the boost, gain another 10% boost, up to a maximum of a 100% boost that once reached, lasts for 1 minute before resetting.*

Woah-ho! That's absolutely busted! It would probably only be okay in the hands of a non extreme build, and only amazing to an extreme build that's not an AGI extreme build. Any other player wouldn’t be able to kill enough enemies out of a large group of filler mobs due to not having enough AGI and thus a slower attack speed. But thanks to my stupid high AGI, I’ll be able to easily get up the max instantly when surrounded, and every fight with large group of enemies, I’ll basically start with an extra 2x modifier on my base AGI, which once everything is added up, I'll be at an astounding 1160 AGI, which is positively insane.

Think about it like this, a normal player doesn’t have the damage or speed requirements to kill at least one enemy every ten seconds even with the boost, which for someone with spread out stats is trivial.

And for someone with an extreme build, They don’t have the speed to reach an enemy to kill them even if it only takes a couple hits. But for someone with an AGI build, they can instantly reach the enemy they want to kill, then dish out hundreds of attacks in those ten seconds to kill that enemy and not have to wait any more than a second to attack the next enemy.

You see why it's so busted for me now.

Well, after the interruption of obtaining this new skill, I just have to test the thread capabilities of the pike, and the new glaive.

I do a bit more searching through the forest, and come across the perfect opponent to test the thread pike combo on. A lone giant boar.

Giant boars are, get this, giant. They pack a huge punch and impressive vitality, but they are very slow moving. Which makes them perfect for this test.

I approach the boar, and grab the pike I had stashed in the quiver while I traveled with my threads, pull it out and position it behind me.

Then I propel it directly at the boar's head in a red blur.

And it goes straight through the boar’s head, killing it instantly.

Maybe that was more effective than I thought it was.

I maybe think that the propulsion speed scales off AGI.

Uhh. Mods plz no nerf.

Moving on after that very enlightening test, I once again start to move through the forest looking for something to test my new skill and glaive on.

I find the perfect enemy in the form of a group of three deer and a stag. The monster kind, not just normal wildlife.

I pull out the Bang Glaive from my quiver, hold it in a two handed grasp over my head, and do a jumping overhead slash at the midsection of one of the deer while slightly extending the glaive to add more power and reach. When it reaches the deer, it is bisected and dies on the spot.

Overkill! I may be a bit too strong to get any challenge from the forest hunting ground. I’ll move on after the quest.

I do a one handed slice to my right, cutting deep into another deer, and jump back to get a more advantageous position against the other two monsters.

The Stag charges me but I dodge to its left, grabbing its horn and pulling to throw it onto the ground using its own momentum.

I rush towards the deer I injured before, and slice at it once again, this time doing enough damage to end it.

I make a quick turn toward the last remaining deer, and with the edge of my glaive facing the ground behind me in a 2 handed grip, I make a full swing upwards, like a golfer, and decapitate it.

With the glaive now pointed straight up, golden blade glinting in the minor sunlight, I extend it a good bit, and swing it back full speed at the still grounded stag, killing it too.

Very Impressive, though if there was one thing off I noticed in that epic fight.

It was that I might be too fast. I had been bordering on it for a while, but with the new skill making me go even faster, my brain just can't keep up with the speed of my body any longer.

*Skill acquired - Bullet time: “When people get above a certain speed, they say it feels like time slows down” Time perception +30% when moving at high speeds* (Dev note: when playtesting, we noticed that people with very high AGI stats couldn’t cope with the speed. So instead of capping the stat or movement speed increase, we decided to make it a feature, and to anyone who could get high enough even with the struggle, we would speed up their perception of time in the game, to make it seem like everything else was moving slower while the player is moving at a very fast speed instead of an unplayable speed.)
