chapter 1

The bell rang for the start of school and hundreds of students crowded into their classrooms. It was getting winter so the floor was well shoveled of mud and slush. The long hallways, with their linoleum floors, quickly became ice rinks and with all those people, it was just before it would fit better to call them death traps. One wrong step and you smoke on your ass.

There were several of the local playboys who took advantage of this opportunity. An agreement was quickly made between the playboys and the nerds. If the nerds could "nerd" so much that they "accidentally" pushed some of the beautiful girls so that the playboys could come to their rescue, then the nerds would be protected for a few weeks. Many girls were beaten off their feet that day, and almost all were grabbed by a few arms before they could hit the ground.

It was a well thought out trick to make a girl feel like she owed the boy a favor. Most services were turned over to a date or if the girls were happy enough to have been “rescued”, it often took the form of other activity during the lunch break.

Lisa was too aware of her surroundings to fall for that trick and always got to twist around people so she did not lose her balance. The ballet, which she went to as a child, combined with the self-defense lessons her father, Police Commissioner Klade, had forced her to take when she turned 12, made her very stable on her feet, but even she found it difficult to stand firm Today.

After a particularly advanced series of quick little steps that almost ended up in a pirouette, around one of the unfortunate girls who had not been caught, she hit into someone she had not noticed. It had felt like running into a statue. Before she could react, she lost her balance and was on her inevitable path down to the mud that she knew would be impossible to get out of her hair. Funny, she had not considered herself beautiful enough that some of the popular guys would waste her time on her.

Her long black hair was way too flat and dull and she was too small. When people looked at her, they saw a girl who could easily walk for a boy in the right attire. Her breasts were only just big enough that she needed to wear a bra, and her ass was way too small, too.

The only thing she really had running for her was that her narrow waist meant she had the hourglass shape, despite the lack of fullness elsewhere. Her waist was so incredibly thin that you could almost reach around it with your hands. Her eyes were apparently beautiful, but she never let anyone get close enough to see their blue-green color.

But here she found herself then, mid-fall, fervently hoping that there was just one of them who had decided to give her a chance. She would reject any attempt at rapprochement, but she would then be grateful for the rescue.

Suddenly her fall stopped and she could feel a strong arm under her. "Okay it was just show off!" she thought. Whoever had grabbed her had only needed one arm for it. When she got to look up at her rescuer, her brain stopped and her heart skipped a beat. She knew almost all the guys at school who came over to the first-year students, but she did not know him here.

She knew she would have remembered the beautiful bronze colored hair and the black eyes if she had met him before. How could a pair of eyes be so black. "Sorry" it sounded quiet from him, but she could clearly hear him. "I forgot to see where I was going. Was too busy finding room 004 to see who I went into, sorry again, ”his voice sounded so nice calm and even though his words did not radiate confidence, his voice made it sound as if he was in control .

Before she could say anything, he had pulled her to her feet again. "It does not matter, we were just as good about it," Lisa commented, trying to leave her voice with as much rejection and neutrality as she could at the same time. "But if you're looking for 004, then you're on the wrong path," Lisa said as she began to walk down the hall again. "004 is just around the corner," she finished before reaching the corner herself, thinking to herself, "yes! then I do not owe him any more services. ”

The bell rang for the second time and everyone had settled into their seats. The first lesson Lisa had was math in 004, so it should probably be fun. Their math professor, was an energetic guy who clearly loved hearing his own voice. He could stand and talk for hours without any problems, and if you were stupid enough to ask about something, then he completely forgot the time and talked your ears off. "We have a new student joining us today, come in come in," he said in his normal hyper voice.

In the door the guy stepped from the hallways. Only now did Lisa notice the rest of him. He was tall and slender but incredibly pale in skin. His face was incredibly defined, as if it were carved in stone. His messy red hair sat as if he were in an advertisement for some professional hair stylist, it looked so messy and at the same time it looked like something that had taken hours to put on. His clothing style was quirky, he wore something reminiscent of a suit, but at the same time it was casual enough that it did not look wrong for school use. A gray blue jacket hung loosely over his gray shirt, with the top two buttons buttoned up. On his chest, the edge of a tattoo could just be sensed. the trousers were ironed and in the same fabric type as the jacket and the black patent leather shoes completed the image of a rich bachelor. He clearly had his own style, and Lisa had to admit that she liked what she saw.

"Hi, the name is Jack Morningstar, I just moved here with my family, so I hope you will welcome me," he said calmly, waving once to everyone in the room. There was something hypnotic about the way he talked, it was as if he was sucking all the light out of the room, so in the end there was only that light just above him. He had everyone's attention as soon as he spoke. Several of the girls were already completely red in the head just by hearing his voice, and at least 2 of them sat and discreetly tried to rub their thighs against each other so they could hit that point that had just suddenly become very hot.

"Good to meet you Jack, think there's a place left next to Lisa", their professor quickly broke in, which was enough to break people out of their hypnotized stage. As Jack walked down the rows, the hypnosis started again, every step he took was so perfect that it almost looked like he was dancing across the floor. Lisa could not help but compare it to her grandfather's stories of the demons coming down the mountain. He was just as perfect as them.

It was sad with her grandfather, he died a few years ago in a hunting accident. Him and 3 friends had suddenly wanted to go out hunting again after too many years. They had camped 5 km outside the city, so they were not far away. The only one who came home was Lisa's grandfather's childhood friend and he was in such great shock that he could not tell them what had happened.

When a group had been sent out to find out what was happening, they found a camp that had been ripped to shreds and all real traces burned in a large bonfire in the middle of the tents.

The sound of the chair giving way faintly under a person got her out of her thoughts. She abruptly turned her head and saw that Jack had taken the seat next to her. "Hello again," he whispered as the professor began to talk and draw on the board.

"Why did you hurry away like that before?" he sounded almost wounded. "The boys have used the slippery floor to get the girls to owe them services, and I would not owe you one," she explained as she began to take notes on the board. "Why did I tell him that?" She thought wondering. Normally she would have just said she was busy, but for some reason she felt the urge to tell him the truth.

"Well, so it was not because you were mad at me," he continued, sounding relieved. "No, I just do not want to be pushed out on a date or any of the things the other girls give as a thank you for their rescue," she whispered quietly. "Quite understandably, saw a couple where it seemed like it was not just a date they got out of rescuing the girls." Jack whispered quietly before tilting his head and looking at Lisa wondering. "Why are you so ready to give out such services to avoid falling into the mud?" he asked as he scratched himself hard.

"I'm not that cheap," Lisa hissed, "but it's probably because many of the girls' clothes are almost impossible to get the mud out of, and then their reputation would suffer a heavy blow if they had to go through a school day with mud on. the clothes ”, she finished with a snort, so that there was nothing to misunderstand about her opinion, about something as superficial as reputation.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

"I did not think you were as cheap as you call it, I just wondered why most girls at school were like that." said Jack angrily. "Sorry, should not have hissed at you," Lisa began quietly, while the professor found another board so he could be there. "No no fully understandable it was poorly worded by me" Jack interrupted. "Okay…" she said, not knowing exactly how to react, so she turned her focus to what their professor was trying to teach them.

The rest of the lesson went on in silence until the bell rang for a break. "What do you have next?" it sounded quiet from Jack. Even though Lisa knew he was sitting there. she still got a shock. "Biology in 027," she said quickly. "Lucky me, do you mind showing me there, have biology there too", he laughed with a big smile.

"Damn!" she thought when she saw his smile. Even his teeth were a series of perfect white pearls. "Why does he have to look so cute?" she thought, while answering, "even if I answered no, you would probably just follow along anyway." She pushed lightly towards him towards the door. She immediately wondered why it should feel so natural to joke with him. They did not know each other at all, but still it felt as if they had always been friends. "You're probably right," he laughed as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder as she overtook him. Who did he just think he was, just being so relaxed around her ?. She considered shaking his arm off her but did not really feel a need for it, it was nice to have him there and he was so sure of her feet that she knew she would not fall with him.

"Hi Jack, see you met our local bookworm", laughed one of the boys from the football team, "there are no other of us who want her so you can have her all to yourself if that's what you want", he continued scornfully. That’s how it had sounded ever since 4th grade, when Lisa had started sitting and reading a book during their breaks instead of playing with the others.

"3 things!" started jack, and his voice took on a dangerous edge “Firstly, it's a shame you can not see the beauty of a good book, secondly, I choose who I spend my time with, and "The bookworm" was so sweet to show me to the next room I should be in, and thirdly, you should go and see where you go, "Jack hurried after the guy from the football team, just before the guy slipped in the mud himself and his carefully set candy hair became even more greasy from mud.

"What does the bookworm say, would she be so kind as to show me the way to where we should be?" Jack asked as he finished laughing at the fool who was still in the mud. "It would please the bookworm" Lisa laughed out loud, she had never thought she could be happy with her nickname, but when it came from Jack's mouth it did not matter. How he had just turned such a situation in his favor she would have to spend many hours wondering.

After biology, where they had also sat and worked together, it was lunchtime, and again Lisa had to show Jack around. Just as they entered the canteen, Jack was assaulted by a beautiful fair-haired girl, with a tight-fitting white blouse, and a thigh-length red skirt, and shaped like a photo model. "Hi Jack, what do you think of the new place?" she sang in a voice that sounded like a thousand bells as she hugged Jack close to her.

"Hi Fie", Jack laughed, "it seems like a good place, I think we can fit in well here." "Super" thought Lisa, the first guy she meets who she thinks is cute is taken. Hi, wait, where did that jealousy come from? She had no feelings for him, did she? They had known each other now for 4 hours. So it could not fit.

"Fie, this is Lisa, so far we have math and biology together," he said, pushing Lisa toward Fie. "Lisa, this is my sister Fie," he continued. "Hope the two of you can figure it out together, don't want my first new friend to not work with my sister," he laughed.

Lisa obediently put her hand out, "hey, your brother saved me from a trip in the mud, so I thought I'd show him around," she said tamely. "Hi Lisa, good to meet you," Fie replied as she took Lisa's hand. When Fie was talking, it also seemed as if the light was changing and coming from just above her, so one could not help but focus on her. "Wait sister?" Lisa took it upon herself to exclaim. "Yes, something wrong with that?" asked Jack with a raised eyebrow. "You do not look like each other at all", Lisa mumbled as she studied Fie a little more closely.

Fie's features were just as nicely defined as Jack's, and they both had those unnatural black eyes. "The only thing I can see, in parts, is your eyes, they are so black, how can eyes be so black?" got Lisa thrown off before her head caught up with her mouth and blood flowed to her cheeks. "Sorry, it really was not nice of me," she quickly apologized. "Don't think about it," Fie started. "We are not real siblings, but cousin on what is it?" Jack asked as he looked at Fie.

"I think it's the 5th link we are on, but we grew up with a common relative", Fie continued. "Our eyes are a family secret," Jack laughed and they shared a funny look as if it were really an internal joke.

"Well, we should probably get something to eat," Fie continued. "If you find any food, I'll find a table," Jack asked, already halfway to the tables. Fie just nodded and took Lisa's hand, "as one of the locals can you tell us what to stay away from." Lisa obediently begin to tell what was not worth eating and what was a must have.

"Thank you," Fie started as they lined up with their food. Lisa had her normal salad, while Fie had only taken 2 pears and an apple. "For what?" Lisa asked. "To welcome us so well, Jack always has trouble finding new friends, but it seems he has found one here in you," Fie replied quietly. "I have a hard time believing that, he enchanted everyone in the room right as he entered it." started Lisa. "Yes, but you did not let it control you, you did not try to throw yourself into his arms right away, and treated him like a normal person," interrupted Fie, "have seen it so many times how girls threw themselves into his arms, but what he wanted most was just to have someone try to treat him like a normal person. ” continued Fie.

"What about the guys?" Lisa asked. "If they do not start worshiping him as some god, then they fear him because of his natural charm," Fie said with her face facing the floor. It had become their turn to pay. "Are you really not going to have another child?" asked her standing behind the counter condescendingly.

"No thank you, do not have the big appetite", Fie replied with a big smile. Lisa noticed that the canteen lady's eyes were blurred for a brief moment before she just shrugged "okay", she replied and hit the total.

On the way down to the table, Lisa got the courage to ask one more question, "you said you've seen this happen several times, do you move often?". Fie turned her head sharply towards Lisa. "There's not much that passes you by?" laughed Fie, "but yes we move often, we are often no more than 3-4 years each place".

"Our father's job makes us travel a lot," Jack said. “Your father? No, wait, that's just what you're used to calling him, isn 't it? Lisa broke in. "She's both observant and quick, you have to be fun to keep company," laughed Fie as she sat down opposite Jack. "You're right. He is not our father, but he has taken care of both of us since we were little, ”Jack explained. How he had heard their conversation, Lisa did not understand.

There was so much noise in the canteen that even she had a hard time hearing Fie. "Aren't you hungry either?" Lisa asked when she saw Jack just sitting and playing with his apple. "Yes, really, but I just do not really want to eat, do you know that feeling?" he asked as he squinted at Lisa. She had to admit, she knew that well.

"You are always hungry. Why, you do not eat properly satiated, there are not some of us others who understand ", noted Fie. Jack just shrugged and looked incredibly tired for a moment. "What are you talking about?" Lisa asked. "Jack here is picky when it comes to his food," Fie said. "Look, that explained a lot," Lisa thought.

Then Lisa ate her food while Jack and Fie chatted little about what they think of their subject until now. Fie had had geography and history, but what she was most interested in were the boys on her team. "If you are so fond of the boys, then you should go down to the sports hall this afternoon," mumbled Lisa, it was not a subject she liked.

"Why?" asked Fie as she made her food turn around like a basketball on her fingers. "All the basketball guys meet and practice, and the cheerleaders always welcome new beautiful girls who want to cheer on the local boys", mumbled Lisa again. "Then you should come along". it came quietly from Jack.

Lisa sat for a while, not believing her own ear. "What is it about Jack?" When did you start giving compliments? ” asked Fie with a big smile. "Since I found someone who did not expect a compliment, but I could still give it to her without it being a lie or I smeared thick on," he replied with a big smile.

Before Lisa could respond, the bell rang and they were to return to class. "What do you have now?" Jack asked quickly. "Chemistry" Lisa replied, wondering why he looked sad. "Well, then, we must each go our own way," Jack said quietly. Why did he sound so sad? Lisa thought again. "It was nice talking to you Lisa, hope you will talk to me again tomorrow," he said as he turned his back on her and disappeared into the crowd.

Lisa and Jack did not see each other the rest of the day, and when Lisa finally got home, her thoughts were on her family and nothing else. But the full moon stood beautiful and clear on this cold November night, and its strange light made her think of this infinite darkness she saw in Jack and Fie's eyes. What was it with those eyes?
