I sat in my chair and stared across the table at Ball, what I had decided to call it, trying to process what had just happened in the past 30 seconds. Ball had appeared out of thin air, which was the most likely cause for why Bob looked half-dead laying outside a hole in my house. Wait... A hole... In my ho- " Ball... I hope you have the money to fix that" I said kindly with the best smile on my face and pointing at the hole in my wall.
"... I don't have any of this planet's currency young master but I can fix it if that is what you would like." Ball voice echoed all around me like he was talking from all directions at once.
That sentence putting me into a much better mood I nodded my head once as I settled into my usual facial expression for the first time since Bob arrived today, a slight smirk that most would interrupt as arrogant.
I glanced around the room looking for James, finding him sitting beside me, his eyes focused completely on Ball but otherwise looking perfectly fine. After confirming the 2 most important things I could now allow myself to process the rest, mainly what Ball first said when he arrived.
So there I sat... Repeating his words in my mind over and over and over and over and over and over again. For the next 5 minutes I sat there, no one tried to interrupt my thinking and waited for me to speak. Eventually, I came to a conclusion. I shot to my feet and focused my gaze on Ball.
"The answer is no, I don't accept the job. It is impressive that you did your research, learned my name and even my father's name before coming here. But this whole story of me being some prince? My father conquering the heavens? Yeah, nice try." I put my hands on my hips as I continued "Trying to blatantly lie to me just so I would come with you just screams that this job would be a horrible one."
Ball floated there in silence for a couple of seconds, for a split second I swear I thought I saw the light coming off of him dim. But he returned to his normal brightness so fast it was hard to tell. "Young master I-"
"Stop that young master shit now." I said as I cut him off "Call me Liam"
"Yes yo-Liam, I am not lying. You can ask James to confirm what I have said." I glanced to my left where he sat, he glared at Ball for a couple more seconds before sighing and turning his head towards me.
"I am sorry that the time has come for this young master, I thought that we would have several more years before this would happen.
I met James's gaze as my hands clenched into fists as my heartbeat and breathing started to quicken. Him not outright denying it already confirmed the worst.
"What are you saying James?" I asked with panic slowly creeping into me. "That my father was some great Emperor? That he conquered Heaven? Heaven is not even real! There is no place where gods gather and live together! I stated with a slightly raised voice.
Despite what I was saying I knew James would never lie to me, I've known him since birth, and from what my father has told me they knew each other long before my birth. While he might take the 'butler' role he is more like family to both me and my father. With my father's death, the only person remaining that I have 100 percent trust in is James.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
The more these thoughts swirled in my head the more my panic started to rise, yes I might have lived thousands of lives, but those thousands of lives memories are sealed. No one can go through so many different lives and experiences and remain sane. So with my memories sealed I was just a normal 21-year-old guy from Earth. Sure I handled the situation with Bob pretty well but I've done that thousands of times. When you do it that many times interacting with gods becomes normal.
" Liam" James began as he placed a hand on my shoulder and tore me away from my thoughts. "I know what System has said is a lot to take in, and there's even more to take in, but I promise ill explain everything and ill be here with you every step of the way." James finished as he offered me a slight smile.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as James' words calmed me. My mind going back to the 2nd rule father had taught me 'Panic only makes the situation worse, you may feel fear, but never let it rule you.' I opened my eyes to meet James' stare as I slowly felt my body relax and my mind return to a rational thought process and gave James a nod.
James smile widened before saying "As the System said, you are the heir to the Empire your father created-"
James was cut off by another flash of light, robbing me of my vision and hearing while also flinging me backward towards the wall. My back hit something soft before blowing through it and hitting the wall knocking the air out of me. I let out a slight moan and took a few gasping breaths as my ears rang. I sat up slowly blinking my eyes and shaking my head, slowly starting to regain my senses. Eventually, my vision came back but my ears continued to ring. I glanced around the room and it was devastated, the table and chairs were blown apart with wood pieces all over the room, my couch had flown into the wall opposite of it, crushing my tv in the process. I looked in front of me to see Ball, not 3 feet away floating in what strangely seemed like a protective manner. Ball had no face but his sphere turned and I could only assume he was now facing me.
My ears continued to ring as we stared at each other, after a few seconds I pointed at my ears and said "IF YOUR SAYING ANYTHING I CAN'T HEAR YOU"
Ball floated up in down in what I interrupted as a nod before his form flashed a deep green for a few seconds then returning to blue.
"Is that better Liam?" Ball asked. I nodded my head in thanks as I looked past Ball and to where the table previously sat. What I saw caused my jaw to drop. A drop-dead gorgeous beauty was kneeling toward us with her head bowed towards the ground, James stood in front of her with the tip of a beautiful longsword gleaming in the light touching her neck about to pierce it.
Before I could say anything she spoke "This servant greets the Grand General and first disciple of the Emperor."
