I know, I know, another one bites the shelf. I just can't handle writing a LitRPG I guess, I always fuck up somewhere with the game mechanics and end up groaning not sure how to fix it even though I want something like it.
As for the plot of this story...It's getting old for me, I have several ideas but, the game mechanics feel so limiting in comparison to just "Hey it's magik."
OC;OR was different for me cause, I just bullshitted through each game mechanic, keeping it as vague as possible. Here I went into too much detail to make it seem like a common MMO. Honestly I just feel bored writing this novel, which sums it all up for me, LitRPG just isn't for me.
Sorry for those who were enjoying the read, I know how much of a pain it is to have an enjoyable book suddenly cease posting. It's not much but through this post I guess I'll try to tell you all what my idea was for the future of this story and how things would turn out, I know it's nothing at all like reading through it, but at least I can sate your curiosity on what was about to happen.
Well for starters, yeah I was fully planning on giving Jor and Nidhogg their own bodies and choices separate from Kaine, or Kai'ne (KAI-NEH) as I originally named him but decided was too complicated. At first, I made this choice just to expand the cast of the story and give these two "personalities" more depth, also I was quickly growing tired of the multi-personality disorder and keeping track of which one is speaking...
As for Kaine's abilities, they had also been seperated into the different personalities like parts of his memory. For example if you asked Nidhogg of what happened to Kaine's sister, he wouldn't remember first hand, just second hand knowledge of what he heard.
Nidhogg, was the hybrid, chaotic and unpredictable type of combat style.
Jor was the sneaky, adaptive and defensive one.
Then there is Kaine, who is revealed to actually be a caster type of player, with knowledge of most of the game's spells and magic types.
Now for the character plot lines...
The two mysterious characters that saved Kaine? They are a rebellious group of Elves called the Owl, led by Ventis, an unknown woman who not even her own followers know her true identity. Mostly, everything is maintained by a high level fugitive named Gerell, the second in command.
Throughout this Arc Kaine was supposed to learn more of this world's politics from his 'saviors', Luno (Or Djakin, son of a Night Elf official.) and Baijil (Or Rose, a simple baker's daughter, a wood elf.) Lovers cringe ensues throughout for Kaine with these two.
Nidhogg starts realizing his tagging as a Demon, is far deeper than it at first seems. As the Hierarchy of Hell demands, all demons must take part and...Nidhogg was a rogue Demon, contract-bound but, ultimately masterless in the abyss's records. This starts off as the appearance and encountering of minor demons stalking and studying them, but later on would have evolved into Demon Lords searching to force him into their command.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Jor on the other hand was working hard to try and gain himself a body of his own, succeeding with Kaine's soul magic combined with his own newly gained spectral magic. Becoming a living Aetherial being called a Wraith.
They proceed to attempt and fail many times to save their captured friends, until they finally succeed.
At the price of Kaine being captured in return.
Something, would happen afterwards.
An impact that would crack Kaine's already fragile mind further, sending his subconscious into self-preservation mode.
Annndddd, awaken the fourth personality. Yes, there was a fourth.
This fourth personality, is Jormungandr, the actual personality of Kaine (Nidhogg, Jor and Kaine are ALL alternate personalities created from snippets of Jormungandr.) Yes, you have been following the story of alternate personalities as Protagonists all along! Hah!
An epic ass-whooping follows as Jormungandr in an enraged state, brings down relentless assault after assault on the surrounding Covenant. Yet, he can't fight them all, definitely not when the Elder's Coven themselves show up.
This, is when Jorm's old guild, Yggdrasil, show up and aid in the escape.
Also turns out, Dark and Sin didn't betray them back at the caves, but instead gave themselves all up through making a deal with the Covenant that nobody would be mortally harmed. (Unknown to them was that they'd not keep that promise with Kaine, him being a Dark Elf.) They had hoped Kaine would also snap out of his bullshit through this, they needed him to be his old self again.
But after escaping the Elder's Coven, the now large group of players head back out into the ravine's wilderness, until Owl operatives approach them from the shadows, Shadow(Or Terence, the Hob Goblin.) and Nate, (Dom, the Satyr).
(Note, they only know them by their code names for most of it, even Luno and Rose.)
Trusting Owl after being saved by them, Kaine votes to follow the strange creatures. And so they head off to find Owl's HQ.
Throughout this journey, a newer member of Yggdrasil makes himself known to Kaine, Sting's 'friend' Schaal.
Who Kaine knows previously, as he silently reveals to be an old acquaintance of his. The Tank player in his AR;TOW team, who followed Kaine into this game to find him and try to get him to rejoin the team. Ultimately getting himself stuck as well.
Now I didn't have much else after this thought out, only few snippets like, when they reached the area Owl's HQ was around...A VERY Dangerous area, they stumble upon a roaming boss monster who immediately engages them.
The two Owl members stay out of the fight, being not the combat types, they instead hide.
And after a drawn out, tiresome fight, more Owl members suddenly appear to clean up the worn out Boss.
But before that, a mysterious female member, adorned with an Owl mask that is half black and half white...Throws Kaine the weapons his sister had made for him, his Kusarigama.
She means to see him at full strength, and will not aid them further unless he does as such.
Kaine, now much different from the man he had logged in as, accepts the offer.
Wielding the weapons, he swallows his pride and guilt, making full use of his expertise with the weapons and mastery over quick spell-casting.
But him alone isn't enough to kill the boss, and just as the monster was beginning to turn things around, Gerell utterly decimates it.
The story from here on would be the players joining the Owl organization, who's intent is to free the Elves from the Coven's brainwashing doctrine and raise their people to arms in preparation for the coming storm.
A storm where more and more of the monsters Yggdrasil members encountered would come.
Except, much much larger.
And with insanely more numbers.
That's, as far as I had gotten. After that I was going to plan for creating the other islands (Realms), but as I said...I'm just bored of writing this.
As any time I do abandon a story, whoever wishes to continue it feel free, I'll even further you all my notes if you wish.
And again, apologies for giving up once more...Guess it is true that writers have more abandoned stories than finished ones :/
