DREAM

Camera lights flicker endlessly, cheers can be heard in the distance, security men try their best to hold back the fans, and a long red carpet stretching all the way to the theater entrance is the front stage. to Santiago Rivera.

The young actor walked the red carpet with a big smile on his face and waved to the fans in the background.

At the age of 25, he premiered his first premiere in Hollywood, he was fulfilling his dream, although he was not the star of the film, he was a relevant character in this and his biggest project to date.

The road had been difficult, however, he never gave up and today he had achieved what he had longed for.

As he carelessly walked he was accosted by a woman in her late 30s with a microphone in hand and a middle-aged man with a large camera following her.

Santiago, seeing her, stopped and with a kind attitude began to answer her questions. It was clear to him that there were three fundamental things in this medium: skills as an actor, his reputation and connections, and reputation came from what the media said. so he was not negligent and responded calmly and assertively to the reporter.

The woman asked very simple questions, the so-called "Standard", what are your feelings when working on this project? How was working with such an actor? How does it feel to be on the red carpet? were some of the questions.

It was normal, although Santiago was one of the most important secondary characters in the film, he was not well known in Hollywood, so his popularity was not great, so the interview was more of a formality.

Even so, he was not discouraged and responded enthusiastically, he didn't think he would be surrounded by journalists like the big stars walking in front of him, just being on this stage was more than enough for him or at least at this moment he just wanted to enjoy the moment.

He finished with the interview and seeing that no one approached him, he went to the massive promotional poster for the film where the usual routine photo was taken at these events and after taking it he continued on his way to the theater to see the premiere.

Still with a smile on his face, he entered the theater with a firm step, but upon entering his vision darkened and suddenly he felt a soft blow on his head and the vision returned to him, he was in the middle of a classroom and the teacher he was in front of him while all his classmates laughed, because he had been caught asleep in class.

With an unfocused expression as if it was difficult for him to understand what was happening, he raised his head and seeing the teacher's expression in front of him, he understood, it was all a dream, which he must have understood immediately, since he was still 17 years old and not 25 as in the dream from which he had awakened.

After the teacher's scolding and the ridicule of his classmates, the bell for the end of class rang in the distance and everything returned to normal.

Santiago Rivera is the name of this young man, 17 years old, a senior in high school, who dreams of being a Hollywood actor and lives in the city of Montería, Colombia.

Classes ended and Santiago collected his supplies, put them in his bag and saying goodbye to all his classmates loudly, left the classroom, went down the stairs and ran to the school exit, more specifically to a van that was parked in front of the school. to the exit door.

He opened the door of the truck and got into the passenger seat, greeted his father who started the vehicle and drove off after returning the greeting.

At the age of 14, Santiago made an important decision in his life, he wanted to be a film and television actor, with great determination he told his parents that this was the profession he wanted.

At that time his parents did not take him seriously, at that age it was not the time to decide what profession you would have for the rest of your life. That was what they thought, so they made him believe that he was fine and Santiago was happy with the fact that his parents supported him.

His parents were well-known doctors in the city. Montería is not a big city, so thanks to their profession and the great recognition of their skills, they were well known and respected.

His father, Elías Rivera is a cardiologist, one of the few in the city, on the other hand, his mother, Carmen Castillo is a dermatologist, both renowned doctors and of good social status.

As medical professionals, they expected their children to dedicate themselves to the same profession, so when their eldest son, Santiago, told them that he wanted to be an actor, they did not take him seriously, however, the young man was very serious.

Santiago, with the goal of being an actor in his mind, began to plan his future, he was an intelligent boy, at the age of 14 only for the love of cinema, he decided his profession early and began to prepare.

He investigated the subject, he wanted to know everything about acting and he soon found out the cruel reality: acting in Montería was non-existent. Monteria didn't even have a theater, there were movie theaters, but no place where he could practice his acting.

The small town had no universities that offered acting programs, the only thing he managed to find was the fine arts center, where there was a modest acting program.

With no other options, he entered the program, it was not a large group, the facilities were not good either, and the teachers or advisors, as they called themselves, were not great figures, nor did they have great acting credentials.

Since there were no age restrictions, Santiago asked his parents to enroll him in the course, there were no other options and his parents thought it would be something temporary so they fulfilled their whim, it was not expensive and the Rivera Castillo family was financially well positioned .

Santiago began his acting studies at the age of 14, at the Montería School of Fine Arts, it was a semester course with classes 3 times a week for 2 hours each class.

Because the teachers weren't people with great acting careers, they weren't the best, however, it didn't change the fact that Santiago learned the basics.

In addition, he took advantage of all the opportunities he had to put his knowledge into practice, whether it was in small events carried out by the same course or in works sponsored by his school.

He also took advantage of all his vacations to travel to the capital city, Bogotá, where there were more options and take intensive acting courses. At that time, his parents were a little worried, but they still supported him.

Apart from that, he asked his parents to enroll him in language courses, his parents agreed without thinking, they believed that he wanted to prepare himself better for his studies and that he would forget about acting.

What they didn't know was that Santiago did all this with the aim of being an actor or at least at that time they didn't know, now it's a thing of the past.

When Santiago asked them to sign him up for acting classes, they thought it was a passing whim, when I asked them to sign him up for language courses, they thought it was to improve his studies, however, it was all a misunderstanding on his part.

Studying acting it was obvious to improve in that job, but his language courses were thinking about the future, Santiago knew that in Montería and in fact in Colombia, it was almost impossible to fulfill his dream, the best thing he would achieve was to be a soap opera actor, but his dream was to act in Hollywood movies.

So that's why he needed to speak English, that's why he asked to be enrolled in courses, even so, Santiago was an intelligent young man and he knew that, although Hollywood was his dream, it wasn't the only place to be an actor, so he learned French and Korean, plus I was taking Japanese courses at the time.

That is why he left school so quickly and his father was already waiting for him, since the only Japanese classes in Montería were at a local university at 2:30 pm every day and since Santiago left school at 2:00 pm he had to run to arrive on time.

He had already explained to his parents the reason for learning so many languages, it was simple, English because the best film and television studios were in the United States and the United Kingdom, so language was essential.

On the other hand, he knew that France had a good reputation in independent cinema, so he learned the language as a possible option for the future, the same was the case with Korean, since there was a great movement for dramas in that country.

In other words, Santiago was learning the languages of the future countries in which he could venture as an actor, he was very meticulous, because he already saw the future, in fact, the very future.

His parents were surprised to discover this, but seeing his determination they decided to support him, in their thoughts if there was a boy who in 3 years had taken acting courses in each of his school vacations and learned 3 languages and was on his way to fourth , just to fulfill his dream, that was determination and they wanted to support him.

They understood that their son would not retract after so much work and they could only resign themselves to their son following in their footsteps as doctors, however, they found comfort in their youngest son who, like his brother, was determined, only he did medicine.

Elías and Santiago arrived at the university and the latter quickly got out of the truck and ran to his Japanese classes while he hastily said goodbye to his father, who smiled when he saw his son so passionate.

Running at full speed, he arrived at the classroom, a few minutes later the teacher entered, who was a Japanese student who was in this university as an exchange student and for this reason there was a Japanese course this semester.

There were only about 8 classes, the regularity was twice a week and it would only be a semester, for a language like Japanese, they would barely learn the basics, but Santiago was motivated and took advantage of the opportunity as best he could.
