47. A Token Gift

Shiao Tianren came at a wrong time!

It was the first thought popping up in Lin Xun’s mind. Seeing all the villagers following behind Shiao Tianren, Lin Xun felt uncontrollably nervous in heart. They all carried a heavy bag on their backs, inside which was obviously the Feiyun Fire Copper they just excavated.

What troubled him most was that two little kiddies also followed behind, each holding a piece of Feiyun Fire Copper, which could not be concealed at all.

Thoughts flooding in his mind, Lin Xun went up to greet and smiled, “Uncle Shiao, please put all things down.”

Shiao Xianren nodded in a bit of a daze, then arranged all villagers to finish the job swiftly, completely ignoring the two strangers in the courtyard.

They all sensed something unusual. Though confused, they didn’t ask a thing. Even the two little kiddies were held by their parents to prevent them saying anything improper.

In the end, Lin Xun winked implicitly at Shiao Tianren, who led all villagers away after getting the hint.

“Feiyun Fire Copper?” Witnessing all this, Mu Wansu asked, “Isn’t it said that the small lode has been dug up long ago?”

“Miss, you may not know it. I accidently ran into the deserted mine tunnels several days ago and unexpectedly found that deep within the tunnel, there still remains an undiscovered vein.” Seeing that it was impossible to conceal the fact, Lin Xun explained frankly.

“This is a great fortune.” Mu Wansu looked at Lin Xun, eyes full of implication.

Childe Shi was also taken aback, “Spiritual fields, beasts, and Feiyun Fire Copper…This village really knows how to make money.”

Shrugging his shoulders, Lin Xun said with a forced smile, “You may not know it, but Feiyun Village lies deep within the Three Thousand Mountains. Even the nearest Green-sun Tribe is over one thousand kilometers away. Though we have spiritual grains, game, and coppers, it is never easy to trade them for real money.”

The Childe smiled, realizing that Lin Xun was worrying that they might get their hands on these goods. However, he didn’t point it out, “It is really a big problem.”

“Indeed it is.” Lin Xun sighed heavily.

The Childe pondered for a while, then took out a token and gave it to Lin Xun, “There is a Keystone Business in Green-sun Tribe. If you need to make some exchange, you can go there with this token.”

“Master, don’t!” Astonished in heart, Mu Wansu said, “This token is a symbol of your status, too precious to be given away so easily.”

Lin Xun had planned to decline it. But seeing Mu Wansu’s reaction, he was tempted in heart and took it firmly with his hand.

“It’s useless with me. I’d rather give it away. What’s more, there is no way that I, Shi Shuan, would take back what I’ve given away as a present.” Said the Childe casually, exuding an air of pride in his calm words.

Wu Wansu was extremely anxious, “But it…”

Waving his hand, the Childe concluded, “That’s it. Say no more.” Then he turned to Lin Xun and said, “Little bro, it is really lucky to meet you here. If you ever go the Forbidden City, do not hesitate to pay me a visit in Keystone Business. Good-bye.”

Saying that, he turned away and left.

Seeing this, Mu Wansu glanced at the token in Lin Xun’s hand, then glowered fiercely at Lin Xun, trying to make him give it back voluntarily.

However, Lin Xun ignored her glare completely as if he didn’t notice it. He turned toward the Childe and said with great sincerity, “Thank you, Childe. I’ll definitely return this favor one day.”

Hearing this, Mu Wansu knew that this brazen youngster was determined to take this token. Biting her teeth hard, she said with a lowered voice, “Boy, I’ll get even with you later.”

The minute she finished her sentence, Lin Xun immediately put up a frightened expression and replied with a deliberately rising tone, “Dear Miss, why do you want to get even with me? Did you get angry because I didn’t treat you well?”

As soon as his words came out, Mu Wansu knew that she was doomed.

Sure enough, the Childe’s voice came from afar, “Haha…Little bro, please do not take it to heart. She’s just joking. Wansu, let’s go.”

Mu Wansu felt extremely annoyed in heart, as it never occurred to her that this young boy would be barefaced to such an extent. Though angry, she still wore a warm smile, her bright eyes full of captivating charm, and said with a sweet tone, “Little bro, I just recalled that Green-sun Tribe is not far from Donglin Town, so I’m sure we’ll meet again some time.”

Saying that, she flickered away with her black dress swaying in the wind.

“Please rest assured, my miss. Given the chance, I’ll definitely pay you a visit in Donglin Town. By then if someone bullies me, I’m still counting on you, my sister, to help me out.” Wearing a bright smile on the corners of his mouth, Lin Xun said with a loud voice.

Mu Wansu, who just got out of Lin Xun’s cottage, couldn’t help gritting her white teeth while thinking of Lin Xun’s craftiness and impudence.

“You little jerk, now that you call me sister, I’ll show you what I’ve got one day!” Cursing silently in heart, Mu Wansu hurried away without any delay for fear she might not be able to refrain herself from beating this little brat really bad.

It was not that she was stingy. The thing was she knew it well that this token was way too precious, symbolizing not just her Childe’s status, but also unimaginable power.

Now Shi Shuan just casually left it to a village body. How could she not be anxious?

But what’s done could not be undone. Though very reluctant, she had to accept the fact.

Watching these two leaving, Lin Xun stood there pondering for quite a while. Not until he saw a flash of rainbow flying far into the distance did he exhale a long breath of foul air, feeling completely exhausted in the chair.

What he experienced just now, though peaceful to the eye, was much more tiring than a bloody battle. Both the Childe Shi and the woman named Wansu were extremely powerful not just in cultivation but also in their wisdom and capability.

Dealing with such people, Lin Xun looked calm and collected; however, deep inside, he was quite nervous and uneasy, daring not to show the slightest negligence.

Now it was all over, but Lin Xun was puzzled. Shi Shuan should be a mighty practitioner of high status, whose purpose, obviously, was to search for the Peerless Treasure.

That was the most confusing part! Should Lin Xun speculate right, the heavenly anomaly Shi Shuan mentioned happened just about three months ago, the very day when he cracked the secret of the Heaven-accessing Place!

Was there any connection between the two?

Lin Xun was not sure of it, but he would never impart it to anyone else.

What Lin Xun couldn’t figure out was that for someone like Shi Shuan, it was unnecessary to treat a village boy like him with the precious Wine of Four Seasons simply for asking such information. Furthermore, he even gave Lin Xun a token!

Why did he do that?

Lin Xun never believed that there really existed such a thing as pennies from the heaven. Even if it did, it would never fall on him.

But no matter how hard he meditated, he still couldn’t get it. In the end, he just left it be, at least Shi Shuan did not show any malignity to him.

On the stone table remained a cup of the Wine of Winter. Lin Xun drank it at one go, feeling a penetrative coldness stinging his throat like sharp blades, which then turned into numerous small cold currents sweeping throughout his body. Lin Xun couldn’t help trembling.

How remarkable the wine was! Though from the same pot, there were four different flavors in all the four cups, each containing horrifying spiritual power of which Lin Xun could only refine about 20% with his current cultivation. For the rest of the spiritual power, Lin Xun had to fight hard to subdue and store them in his body.

An inflation of spiritual power was not always a good thing. If he advanced too fast, it was very easy to result in an unstable cultivating foundation, which would cause great danger for future cultivation.

The cultivation Lin Xun always strived for should be like water spilling naturally when it gets to the brink of the cup, which attached great importance to the training of his spiritual foundation.

He had no plan to progress too fast while narrowing or shortening his journey in cultivation, which would be like fishing in the air, causing a loss too huge to make up for.

Meanwhile, a flying carpet was soaring fast between the clouds.

“Childe, why did you do that?” Without any outsider, Mu Wansu finally asked about the confusion she had harbored in heart all the way.

“I knew you would ask!” Hands behind his back, Shi Shuan’s figure was tall and steady like an immovable mountain, “Would you believe it if I say it was just a whim?”

Mu Wansu was in a trance, shaking her head honestly.

“But I do believe it is luck that brings us to meet.” Shi Shuan said lightly, “This boy is about the same age as my third younger brother. However, I did not find the slightest arrogance in him; instead, his boldness, wisdom and improvisation are outstanding and way beyond his age. A small village like Feiyun can never keep him long.”

Mu Wansu gave a cold smile, saying, “I think he’s just a canny and bare-faced little brat. He’s not as good as you think.”

Shi Shuan smiled casually. Overlooking the distant rivers and mountains, he said, “You won’t understand it. There is a kind of people who, if given the chance, would burst out a dazzling brilliance. But it’s still too early to draw a conclusion. Time will tell whether he’s a dragon or a snake.”

Mu Wansu never expected that her Childe would speak so highly of a village boy, her expression turning more serious. Looking back in detail, from their sudden entry into Lin Xun's house to the events happening later, it was true that the temperament and language Lin Xun presented were not something a country boy could have.

However, thinking of his treacherousness upon her leaving, Mu Wansu just couldn’t force herself to see him as someone potential.

She sighed, “I’m just worrying that this boy may not get your warm intentions. There’re way too many ungrateful people in this world.”

An indifferent smile flickering on the corners of his mouth, Shi Shuan said, “It’s just some wine and a useless token. Not a big deal. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t remember me in the future. You think I’d care for a young boy’s gratitude?”

“Of course not.” Mu Wansu answered without any hesitation.

As the eldest son of the “Fortune God” who was the owner of the Keystone Business, he was one of the most shining figures among the younger generation in the Forbidden City.

Most importantly, Shi Shuan was a mighty practitioner of Spirit Sea Realm who could compete with the “Young Sword King”, Shie Yutang.

Perhaps just as he said, he did it casually to greet their encounter.

Things in this world were exceedingly strange, the true mingling with the false. Some facts were indeed simple, not as complex as what many people thought.
