35. Ambush at the Entrance of the Village

The earth was shaking. A drove of people and horses was galloping under the blue sky, blowing a huge cloud of dust.

In the front were two scaled-horses, and Lian Rufeng was riding on one of them. Next to him was a slim old man with a goatee beard.

The old man was haughty, and his finery was clearly too costly for any poor villagers.

They were followed by a dozen of guardians. Some were from Feiyun, and the rest were the subordinates of the old man.

“Elder Wu, we will arrive at Feiyun in about two hours.”

Lian Rufeng said with a flattering smile.

Elder Wu’s name was Wu Henshui, a great deacon of the Wu’s Herbs Store in Green-sun Tribe. He was very strong, and his cultivation had reached the eighth level of the Martial Realm, “Da Zhoutian” (Big Circulation).

He was a famous businessman and a big shot even in Green-sun Tribe.

All these years, Lian Rufeng had been doing business with Wu’s Herbs Store.

And thanks to Wu Henshui, Lian Rufeng had been able to send his son, Lian Fei, to study in Donglin Town.

To him, Wu Henshui was so capable that he couldn’t stand to disrespect.

Wu Henshui nodded lightly, and asked abruptly, “Have you heard of the blood marrow grit?”

Lian Rufeng froze a bit, “Is it some kind of herb?”

The question revealed his ignorance. Wu Henshui gave him a scornful glance, and shook his head. This poor man from the remote and backwards village was indeed vulgar and ignorant.

As vulgar as Lian Rufeng, he knew he had made a fool of himself. So he asked again, “Why do you mention it, Elder Wu?”

Wu Henshui thought for a second and told him, “You may as well know the truth. It is said there is an abandoned Feiyun Fire-Copper lode around your village.”

Lian Rufeng nodded his head, “It is true.”

Wu Henshui continued, “Do you know that the red blood bats will inevitably be attracted to nesting at any place with the Feiyun Fire-Copper?”

Lian Rufeng nodded repeatedly, “Elder Wu, you really know everything. If you didn’t mention it, I almost forgot. There are red blood bats in that abandoned mine tunnel, so it has been regarded as a forbidden area. We are all afraid of dangers if we dare to intrude.”

Wu Henshui smoothed his goatee beard, feeling contended, “It is a total coincidence. I happened to read an old book a while ago. It was written that where there were red blood bats, there was blood marrow grit. Blood marrow grit is a valuable spiritual ingredient. A grain of it is worth ten copper coins.”

Lian Rufeng continued to curry favor with him, “Elder Wu, you really have sharp eyes. You are much clever than us. But what does the blood marrow grit do?”

Wu Henshui enjoyed the Lian’s flattery, so he did not mind to tell more, “The blood marrow grit is very precious. It can refine one’s blood marrow, and improve one’s physique. With its facilitation, you chance to rise to the fifth level of the Martial Realm will be up by 20%.”

Lian Rufeng was shocked, “Is it really so magical?”

He had been stuck at the fourth level of the Martial Realm and couldn’t find the way to level up for years. The fundamental reason was that he was unable to polish his blood marrow as white as snow!

No wonder he was stunned when he found out the use of the blood marrow grit.

Wu Henshui looked at Lian Rufeng and said in a playful tone of voice, “So little do you know.”

Lian Rufeng hurried to say, “Elder Wu, is the blood marrow grit the real purpose of your visit this time?”

Wu Henshui nodded, “It is one of my goals. The other is to inspect the spiritual lands in Feiyun.”

Lian Rufeng smiled, “Don’t worry. I have planned this for a long time. Nothing will go wrong.”

His plan was to help Wu Henshui occupy the spiritual lands in Feiyun.

If he succeeded, he and the guardians would be able to take root in Green-sun Tribe, and even make a bit success in Donglin Town through Wu’s connections.

Whether the villagers agreed or not, he did not care at all. For the sake of his own cultivation, he chose not to care.

Even if the villagers rejected his proposal, what could they do?

They were just nobody. It was no big deal if he killed them all.

Wu Henshui was emotionless. He said, “That’s the best. When the spiritual lands are planted with spiritual herbs, we will make much more money. You will get your share too.”

Lian Rufeng beamed with joy, “Thank you for your patronage, Elder Wu.”

Soon, a large stretch of spiritual lands came into their view, so did a village at a distance.

Seedlings of the spiritual grain were growing in the spiritual lands, like a piece of green silk.

“Here we are!”

Looking at the village and the spiritual lands he was familiar with, Lian Rufeng got excited. As long as his plan went well, there would be nothing standing in his way to success.

The guardians behind him also could hardly hold back their excitement.

“Such good spiritual lands are only planted with spiritual grain. It’s such a waste.”

Wu Henshui roved his eyes about the seedlings in the spiritual lands, singing and shaking his head.

Lian Rufeng looked puzzled. He asked, “Elder Wu, the spiritual lands have the difference from good to bad?”

Wu Henshui cast a disdainful glance at him, and replied, “Among all the lands we have in the three-thousand mountains, how many do you think can be reclaimed to be spiritual lands?”

He pointed at the spiritual lands afar, “Have a good look them. Beneath every spiritual land there must be some hidden spiritual veins to foster the soil, or the soil will lack the spiritual power to grow spiritual grain. You bumpkins really know nothing.”

Being called a bumpkin made Lian Rufeng very anger in the heart, but he forced an obsequious smile on the face and said, “Elder Wu, you are right. We are ignorant.”

Wu Henshui snorted, “What is your plan about the villagers?”

Lian Rufeng clenched his teeth and spoke in a cold voice, “If they are willing to help you plant the spiritual herbs, then everything’s fine. If not, I’ll have to kill them.”

Wu Henshui nodded in approval, “You’d better save their lives. Planting and harvesting the spiritual herbs requires a lot of manpower. I don’t want to spend more money on buying slaves.”

Lian Rufeng nodded immediately, “You are absolutely right.”

Wu Henshui did not want to chat any longer, so he ordered, “Let’s go to the village.”

Then the whole group galloped to Feiyun village in the distance, so rampantly they didn’t even think to conceal their aggressive ambition.

For them, the villagers living in Feiyun were just a bunch of poor bumpkins who knew nothing about cultivation and everything else. There was no need to come up with a plan before they started the killing.

This was what Wu Henshui was thinking right now, so were Lian Rufeng and the guardians following them.

But what they did not expected was things had changed in Feiyun during the last few months.

Om!

The moment they arrived at the entrance of the village, they heard a shrill whistling sound from afar, scaring the hell of out them.

“Stop! There’s an ambush!”

Wu Henshui drawn the rein and stopped. His face tightened slightly.

Lian Rufeng was frightened with a shudder of horror. Subconsciously, he drove the horse to evade.

Bang!

He saw a beam of black light brushing past his shoulder and inserting into the chest of a guardian behind him. Blood burst out everywhere.

That was an arrow with incredible speed.

If he did not dodge in time, he would have been killed.

Cold sweat broke out all over his body. Before he could react, the arrow in the guardian’s chest suddenly exploded like a mine.

The guardian’s body shattered and blood splattered. Aghast at the horrifying view, the other guardians hastened to evade, causing much chaos.

“Darn! You planned this all these days?”

Though Wu Henshui was shocked and raged in the heart, he pretended to be calm on the face. He dismounted from the horse and hid behind its crupper, getting defensive.

“Elder Wu, I’m sorry.”

Lian Rufeng clenched his teeth, looking thoroughly ferocious. He drew out a long sword and shouted, “Don’t panic. Get ready to fight!”

Om!

The familiar whistling sound was heard again. An arrow was shot from the village like a shooting star.

Bang!

It was so fast that another guardian had no time to run away from it. He and his horse suddenly exploded, making blood and flesh flying.

With only two arrows, two guardians were killed in an instant.

The rest guardians were terrified and bewildered. They abandoned their horses and ran to hide.

Until now, they couldn’t be able to lock the whereabouts of the enemy, and they only knew the arrows were shooting from the village.

Lian Rufeng clearly understood the current situation. He was shocked and furious. How could it be that there was a professional bowman in the village he had not known about?

No ordinary bowman had the ability to kill a spiritual practitioner!

“Could it be Lin Xun? Unlikely! I have ordered Lu Ting and Qian Qi to stay in the village. That young boy should have been killed by now! Wait a moment, something’s not right!”

All of a sudden, Lian Rufeng thought of a question, where is Lu Ting and Qian Qi?

“Son of a bitch! Kill your way into the village right now. Staying here will make all of us live targets!”

Wu Henshui had rich combat experience, so he knew it was extremely dangerous to stuck in a flat ground with no place to take cover.

However, he certainly would not rush into the village where no one knew how many enemies were hiding?

Lian Rufeng awakened with a start and yelled, “Guys, follow me! Let’s kill the damn archer!”

Like a leopard about to start a raid, he quickly approached the village in zigzags.

Behind him, the guardians were all in panic, but they also understood if they didn’t kill the archer, they would be shot as live targets here.

They had no choice but to follow Lian Rufeng.

Om!

When they started to move, the familiar whistling sound rang out again, like the deadly voice ringing from the hell to demand their lives!
