UPDATE: State of the Story 1

State of the Story 1

Hello, everyone, this is Nedvisor. It has been over a week since I posted the concluding chapter of Bane of the Old Guard Volume 1 and I wanted to give y’all an update about the future direction of the story.

First of all, allow me to give a hearty and heartfelt thanks to each and every one of the 160 people who decided to follow this story. Your comments and suggestions have meant so much to me and have given me untold motivation while writing/posting.

Second, when is the story returning? Soon, I hope. When I began posting this story two months ago it was during a time of vacation with family who I had not seen for several years. I thought : “oh, I have no work other than to visit with my loved ones, surely I will be able to write everyday!”…well, that did not happen. It seems that my writing ethic works best when I work everyday at my 9-5 and squeeze in the moments to compose around that time. Is anyone else like that? More productive when you have less time? When I began writing BOTOG in March I was working seven days a week (I have a main job and also some part time work) but somehow I managed to wake up every day around 5am and write for three hours which got all 50 chapters done in four months. Looking back, I should have known I would not be very productive during vacation and postponed publishing until July, alas, I was too excited to share what I had been working on.

I know what you are thinking: Why share this with us? Surely I should only be talking about the positive stuff, not admitting my weakness and possible faults which will only hinder future consistent publishing. Well, look, there is a human being sitting on the other side of your computer screen, staring in a nearsighted manner at a word document as he writes this. I am not perfect, but rest assured that once we return I will strive to never have such a break again.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

I was inspired to write on Royal Road (as many before me) when I came across JF Brink’s fantastic guide to publishing successfully. I took his words as gospel and did everything I could to produce a two month back log. That back log has been cut essentially in half, and as soon as it is back up you will see a notification for the next set of chapters. Really, I don’t see this story going on patreon, and so that large backlog does not seem so necessary anymore. With this in mind, I decided to just work on the chapters I have completed while on vacation. I have a large (9000 word at least) interlude that will be bringing the story back online (chapter 51) and the chapters that I have written (up to around 65) need more polish. Also, I have decided to change the formatting of the chapters and generally just have more fun with what I am doing. I hope when the story returns all of you like the changes and additions I have made and will find them a fun part of each chapter (it’s nothing special, mostly italicized intros from in game texts) and will contribute to the world building.

Lastly, let us make a date, shall we…hmmm…this may be putting the (c)art before the horse, but perhaps a firm decision on the date of chapter 51 would light a fire beneath this writers tush…let us make it…September, Monday the 18th.

Well I think that about wraps it up. See you all soon!

Huzzah!

PS…It has been brought to my attention that my author rank would be improved via more review swaps. I have only done two of these so far and am in need not only receiving a few more but also of reading some and writing my own! I miss lounging back and reading other’s stories. If you have a story you would like reviewed please message me and I will add it to the docket!
